Where are the FWDs at????

Having a serious brain cramp, can't think of the name but it was whatever lets the car shift, both times it broke car was stuck in 4th gear and the shifter felt like the cables were unhooked. SHIFT RAILS!!

Breaking shift rail ends and shift forks happens when you muscle the gear like a gorilla. It can also happen if the stops in the shifter base are worn down or bent and allow the shifter to move too far.

Hmm that is really strange as the first time it happend I was doing a 3rd gear pull and I let off the gas to put it in neutral and it just felt like mush! The second time I was shifting into 3rd at WOT I dont consider myself a gorilla haha. What would I look for in the shifter base to know if its worn down? I would really like to not break trannies if its something as simple as that.

Tough luck I guess. I had really good luck with my stock 220k mile tranny. Held up to 680whp and a bunch of 10sec passes. Along with constant street abuse tuning and stuff.

The longer gearing really helps the car hook. But if it works for you, stick with it! Good luck

Richard did your old 5 speed unit have any type of LSD in it? What type of fluid did you use in it? Thanks.

Or if you have a Fidanza short throw which don't have stoppers on them. I lost 2 transmissions because of one of those before I took it out.

I did toast my clutch and a pair of syncro rings last month :(
Didn't realized that the clutch is acting strange... only did one pass than babied the car home.

Of course the pass wasn't fast because I rolled of the line.
But topspeed does look good.
112mph (14.2s) with Evo3@21psi

hopefully the car will be able to run again soon.

I agree they all have their places, advantages and down falls,.

Anyone who says a FWD can't be as fast as an AWD clearly hasn't looked beyond their own neighborhood for results to base that opinion on.. I think a great example of this is the FWD built by RichardB (or something close to that) on here and having it as a2g FWD in the 10's for less than most poeple spend to get teir AWD's in the same 10's range as well as joe bucci and many other's who've went crazy fast on very little money in a FWD

either way you look at it, lack of traction is simply too much horsepower for a given car;s setup and it's tires. If the only way you know to get traction is to go AWD, then you won't be much faster with 6 wheel drive and would probably do just as good with less power and more practice. I mean when you see videos of a 200hp civic outrunning a 400hp corvette through the first few gears (saw one last night on yourtube) it's not because the civic is over 400hp and putting down power to more of the wheels, .. driver modification is usually just as if not more effective way of beingthe faster of the two cars up until a certain point, at which time you've already learned that AWD just doesn't automatically mean "superior"

Now i will say that FWD is more challenging but tat's what i apreciate about it having owned one for so long... amazing what a simple diff will do, then how much it feels like you never upgraded that diff once you've added another hundred horses

Thanks for the plug, we hope to get into the 9's this year

First time taking this turd to the track. 118k miles stock bottom end, composite HG, stock head bolts, stock automatic, stock suspension, full weight, open diff. Garrett 60-1 @ 16-18psi.

First run clicked off a 8.499 @ 91 with a 2.23 60ft, second run heated the ET streets a lot more but bogged a bit leaving this time and managed a 8.25 @ 91.3 with a 2.09 60ft. Trap speed surprised me, need to get the 60ft down.

Nice 91 in the 1/8 is moving

My ride is down got a few new parts to put on act 2600 , cf hatch and I'm saving up for the fal lexan and a fp 68

My b thoughts exactly!

Thanks, yeah the 91 mph made my night and gave me a good idea of where the car stands. Know where to go from here at least. Vacuum pump, mls, head studs, then work on getting the 60ft down before tossing the race gas and more boost at it. I'd love to see it make a low 11 second pass by winter.
