Thanks Ian! The Shootout is the only race I plan on going to this year. I have never been to one and want to meet all the people I have spoken/texted to for years and have never met. I need to weigh the car whereas I know it's getting pretty chunky! I have not taken out any weight except the a/c and p/s.

Oh man, you don't know what you've been missing! This will make my 7th year straight for the shootout, first taking a car though. It is such a cool atmosphere up there, you will love it :rocks: I am jealous of the weight of your car already, I feel like I have a ton to get rid of in my 2g and it's still gonna weight a good bit LOL

Being that I'm on the west coast, I doubt I'll ever make it to a shootout. I've seen tons of info, pics, videos, etc from previous years. I might just have to dedicate a year to going to make it happen.

Speaking of weight, I got a new weight on my car this weekend. I don't have everything exactly like it will be at the track, but about 95%. The car will probably be slightly lighter than what it weighed in at. My fuel cell is only 1 gallon. Since I don't have fuel in it, I just threw in my 5 gallon gas can full of gas. That would easily offset the weight of fuel in the fuel cell, my laptop and helmet. I also weighed the car with the stock "mesh" style Laser wheels, which are exactly 10 lb more per wheel and tire than my slicks. I'm expecting the car to drop down another 30lb or so when ready it's in full race trim. As the car sat, it tipped the schedules at 2054lb!!!!! Weight distribution was 69% front, 31% rear!

Insane that you're that light! What's the stock weight of a 1g?

everytime a FWD talks about launching, everyone assumes spin is the factor to bad 60 ft's. Another thing to keep in mind is bogging off of the line. That was my case for the first time I went to the track. I was pulling 2.6 60's and worse the entire time because of my inability to control the bogging. I've tried slipping, dumping, different RPMs
just something to think about.

How can I fix this. I am having the same problem MAYBE due to a lighter flywheel. When I had the stock flywheel my rpm would stay where I launch the car rpm wise and just pick up from there.
After I installed my act lighten flywheel. I bog off the line every time.
Tried different tires, raising and lowering the front, rim sizes, dumping and slipping (3200, 3500, 4000, 4200, 4500, 5000 rpm)
Manual Tranny launches. The idea with a manual car is to get the suspension to absorb the first "shock" of the clutch being dropped- If you tighten up the suspension too much it will not hook and you will get wheel hop! Just wind it up and let it rip- the tires will spin just a foot or two (that's the idea) and if you got it just right with a car my weight (3000lbs) 1.89-1.90 short times can be had.

Turbo's don't make real boost till they are under a load- When you launch this way the tires spin a bit to keep engine from bogging AND generates exhaust flow & load to get the turbo up to speed.

So what I like to do is build a few psi off the line, spin the first very few feet, and then it hooks up well.

Read up on FWD traction by the turbo dodge guys, they know what they are talking about.

DDG- Traction

Any body have sweet spot rpm's i could try?

^^^for the 'sweet spot' rpm, you'll have to keep messing with it. Too many variables to pick on rpm. You are probably right on with the issue about the flywheel. I have only launched 2 FWD cars with slicks. One was a 90 Laser (only mods being a MBC @ 14psi and cut stock filter canister for more air) and I was in the high 1.9x region until the stock clutch started slipping. The other car was my SRT4 Neon. Only mods on it were MBC @ 15psi, 2 gallons of 100 octane, air intake, Mopar BOV. I was consistesently in the 1.9x zone and occassionally cut a high 1.8. Turbo size, power, and technique by the driver will play a big role. Main thing is to keep hitting the track and practicing. Once you get comfortable with the car, you will start to feel those small changes in rpm or clutch pedal release make a difference and you can fine tune the launch.

Still need to line some stuff out, figure out why it's giving me issues going into 3rd, but still might be going to local 1/8th mile this weekend

Well got abit faster this weekend ran a best of 12.82@110. Still maxing out flow of 16g but worked on my tune and only ran 100oct race gas. So next month should be real fun I just got all the parts I need to run my holset wh1c so its getting put on this week. Also did my yearly compression test on 237,000+ mile motor with arp head studs and still stock head gasket I got 160's across the board :). So I feel a lot better stepping up to the holset world. My buddy came out with his camera and got some sick vids and I also got a in car gopro vid. Once we do some editing and make the final cut vid I'll post.

My sweet spot is 4k on my two step on Link. I have to slip the clutch a good amount but your going to have to anyways on street tires. I just picked up a new FP3575 and almost done with my build all my upgrades are in profile. Man can't wait to break her in and see what she runs. I'm going to run the stock intake manifold till I max that out.

Guess its time for me to join this thread since stuffs underway.

Soon to be -

6 bolt block
.2 over with JE pistons
Pauter Rods
ACL bearings.
ARP Hardware
O ringed with MLS gasket
Ferrea oversized valves
Ferrea valve guide
Ferrea Valve stems
PR FMIC
B+M oil cooler
Walbro 255lph HP
Fuel Lab AFPR
FIC 850 CC
DSMLINK v3 Full
Greddy 3" evo2 cat back
Apexi n1 DP
Greddy Type S BoV
Wideband,Boost gauges.
K&N 4" intake
Tein SS w/dampner Coilovers
Full polyurethane mounts and bushings front to back(other than the subframe)

Now there is two things I need help with.
1. Im stuck on what turbo to run, Im going to pick up this engine for a good price since my 7 bolt crankwalked and with the power its meant to hold up to I feel like I am undermining the engine by running it on a e316g. Any other opinions towards turbo choice? Im between an e316g and a Hx35, both seem to cost about the same to get a set up going.

2. I plan on running Delta 272 regrinds of the hks 272 for my application.

This car is going to be a DD/Weekend Warrior. It will see track and course time eventually after I switch out for the 3g sway bars and upgrade my brakes.

Opinions, Comments, Recommendations?

Thanks
Armin

You may have stated this already, but to keep me from digging through 172 pages, what wheel/tire combo is that?
