I'm in the final stages of my engine build. I was wanting to know what brand of headgasket has been working for high boost applications? I will be using a head stud combination with the higher grade head gasket.
Thanks

MLS is a good option. Has the block been decked or anything? If so go with MLS. I personally only use mitsu gasgets, but felpro and cometic make them as well. If the block and head have not been surfaced dont bother with an mls, a standard composite gasket will do you just fine. Felpro would be my first choice on that.

What boost level?

What is your goal?

How has the block deck and the head surface been prepped?

Some on the board are running 30+ psi with a fel-pro composite and arp head studs.

I guess I could have been a lil more forthcoming on my engine build.
It is a 4g64 from a 94 Galant.
87mm Wiseco Evo HD's
The block has been decked and the head resurfaced
I will be running the 7 bolt head and Evo 3 intake
I hope to be running in the upper 20psi of boost.
Hope this helps.

I'm running cometic MLS. I have a built block and rebuilt head which all have been resurfaced and decked as well as sanded to almost mirror finish. I run 28psi no issues. Basic ARP head studs.

You do not "polish" the mating surfaces, they have to be machined.

If the block is not machine perfect and the head has not been decked recently the OEM Mitsu composite gasket and ARP studs seem to do pretty well. Many people have good success and the cars are reliable if prepped and installed properly. MLS is better but I would be scared to do an MLS on older surfaces.

Best results I assume would be fresh machining of surfaces, MLS and new ARPs. Depending on goals maybe L19 ARPs.

Key word. He is 87mm.

You have limited options but here they are.

Felpro mls 87mm
Cometic mls 87mm
Factory oem composite gasket an depending on what you are trying to do will determine if you should o ring the head or not

There is also the sce ics Titan copper

The composite with a o ringed head is a pretty much sure thing. Felpro mls and cometic have had issues and the block and head have to be 50ra or lower and flat! I ran a straight felpro composite into the 10s at over 135mph on straight 93 with a gt42. It never gave me a issue until it finally got a little seepage one night crusing normal 4 years of abuse in.

This ^

I have been on a Stock composite H/g copper sprayed and Standard Arp's for about 4-5ish years :thumb:

Regardless of what H/g you chose OP make sure that the machines can get the Lowest RA possible and make sure your surfaces are Perfectly flat or it won't matter what you use.

Not saying that Standard Arp's can't hold... .

But if intent on running 35+ psi I suggest investing in higher grade A1/L19 studs if anything for the piece of mind. Really anyone getting to that power level shouldn't really be having to ask Imo what they should be running. Also all this has been discussed many times in fact a couple threads in last couple weeks comes to mind.
