What Fluids are you guys using?

I have a 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX Auto and I would like some opinions on some fluids. I need to replace my transfer case fluid and my automatic transmission fluid. What do you guys recommend and I also see temps from -30 to 100 in Montana if that makes a difference.

I use Valvoline Atf + 4 full synthetic. Most guys on the Link forum recommend it and they are in the deep 10's.
For the rear end I'm going to be using redline heavyweight shockproof.

They sell that valvoline at walmart, just an Fyi

Get 75-90w for the rear diff.

Royal purple

Royal Purple is great! I use Royal Purple oil for my car.

WHAT!!!!! Royal purple is great since ive stopped using mobil1 and gone to royal purple ive noticed it driving alot better and the lifters dont make as much of a noise! Valvolene is good but only if you get the good stuff that costs good money! I use to run valvo in my old skyline and it ate bearings and scored the linings like a fat kid with candy!! All jokes aside. Since royal purple in my engine and auto transmission ive felt a huge difference in responce to both parts and beleave it or not the atf fluid. hange has even made the car faster some how! But i do also beleave in unicorns haha jk

The only other oil brand i would use would be amsoil but the race quality stuff.

They have a testing thing on royal purples website aswell. And i think its mobil1 and either valvolene duratech oil or castrol im not 100% sure.

I had not seen the video on its website. It really is a very good oil. Somewhat expensive but very good.

Do NOT use Syncroshift in your AUTO. Either OEM, or equivalent.

I ran both the OEM, Valvoline high mileage, and Valvoline Syn+ in my trans. No real difference for the street.

I added a bottle of Black Lubegard also.

Jacks transmission's lists what fluids for trans,transfer case,and rear diff. I would not use anything other then what they suggest.

Thats fine. But he has an Auto trans. Not a Manual......

So the trans will take ATF..... The t-case and rear diff will take gear oil as recommended.

If you are good on oil changes, it doesn't matter. I've never had an issue with my valvoline and I'm not about to drop 60$ for an oil change. If you are consistant with changing your fluids and making sure they are topped off, you shouldn't have any issues.

Everyone has their own opinions but not everyone can realistically afford royal purple for fluid changes. I was considering using it before I tried valvoline in my transsmission and went to ask around the Ecmlink forums, the majority of people use valvoline full synthetic these are guys well into the 10 second quarter mile times. I think I'll listen to them.

As for fluids In my black car I run All RedLine fluids from Racing ATF for the trans to Heavyweight Shock proof for the trans.

In my White car which is a little more mild, I run the same HW shockproof for the T-Case and rear but use the cheaper Valvoline in the trans. Its a decent budget oil but when you make big boy power it just doesn't hold up the same...

I upgraded to a MASSIVE cooler so I am hoping it will help ad some life to this stuff. Its nice to pay only $5-6 a qt considering how much you need but it definitely holds no candle to how stout this redline ATF is.


On a side note I'd also recommend Amsoil. Its pricey but also a great fluid. John Deer is cheap for high performance but it is thick so be cautious. Street driving is sluggish but it will help tighten up a really loose TC for the street.

Motor oil on either car is a toss up. I run 20-50 and 10-40 defending on the time of the year and usually grab what ever is on sell. I change my oil so frequently that it honestly doesn't matter very much.
