Ok so my build is almost complete, and i want to know what you guys think of my MHI E3 16G exhaust fins, I ran the car lean and blew the motor. The car was all stock except the 16g. It has a little side to side and ran great when pulled.

They seem alittle bent and chewd up to me. Are you planning to atleast rebuild the turbo befor you run it on a fresh motor. It would suck to have the turbo blow and possibly take out your fresh motor. Just my thoughts bro.

By blew the motor what do you mean?

The fins look fine, few scratches but for sure usable.

If you spun a bearing, or there was anyway a foreign object entered the oil supply, the turbo could be screwed. Thats why I asked how it "blew"

From an aerodynamic standpoint, I'd replace the turbine blade as the indented extremities of the blades will create an unbalanced flow (more pressure to the tips). Not sure on how long it would last but it won't last as long as a non dented one. I'm sure Justin would be able to answer with more of a firm conclusion, but personally I wouldn't use it, at least without a rebalance.

That will work fine. I had a 16G that I put 30,000 miles on with a chewed up turbine wheel from leaning out and melting the tip of my EGT sensor. I believe it's still running now I sold it to a friend and he run it like I had it, chewed up.LOL

Mind you it wasn't that bad but it was still chewed up on the tips of the blades. I'm not saying it would last for ever as it will effect the balance of the turbo shaft but i feel yours is no where as bad as mine was.

The fins look to be not to bad, but my personal opinion, i wouldn't run it like that! Balance will be off and you can't complete know how much but just looking at it, and it will effect the performance potential of the turbine blades, again you may not notice it but looking or the feel of driving it, but more than certain it will effect it!

Its best to be safe and rebuild it! :/

I'd run it if you don't have the funds for a rebuild. I've seen MUCH worse than that come from turbos that were still making perfect boost....in many cases the owners has no idea there was even a problem.

Excessive EGT's, too much backpressure, or turbine overspeeding will do this.

i need to keep my 16g compressor housing cause i just bought a vr fmic with the 16g install, how much is a rebuild and where is a good place to get it done?

It just so happens that one of the top turbo rebuilders has already replied to this thread. Pm jusmx141 :thumb:

Rebuild it and use a 20g wheel and comoressor housing.

Great advice considering the turbine wheel is what is damaged...there's nothing wrong with the compressor wheel or the housing.
