5 weeks post OP, starting to do some small work. I turned some bushings on the lathe and starting building a tubular rear roll stop.

What’s required to throw one of those in your trans? Are you gonna need to do the solder thing and measure for new shims or can you just throw it in and go?
No shimming or solder needed for 5th gear. You only need to remove the end case to access 5th. Two stake nuts, remove the original gear set, replace with replacement gear set.

Freakin' awesome. I'm putting those gears on the list then. Would love a taller 5th!

Balls deep in the A/C installation for the talon. I’ve already got most of the stuff there, just need to change every o-ring and the dryer for a new one. Also gotta install the compressor and belt tensioner. 😬

Took care of that antifreeze leak that was getting progressively worse. Went with a rubber hose since the bottom hose on a 6bolt swap is a 1g and not a whole lot of cheap options out there when you only need one of those hoses.

Pulled a vacuum on it a good long 45 minutes, and it has a slow leak.

Decided to throw in the towel today and mess with it more tomorrow. This car never gives anything up easy. Always a fight.

Gonna run to Walmart later and get some extra Freon. Tomorrow I'm gonna reassemble the car and charge it to find the leak. Luckily the Ester Oil I used has a very bright dye added to it.

Properly installed a double din touch screen and a small all in one amp/sub. Haven't had any music in this car for years due to electrical gremlins but i think i got it licked. Nothing special but enough bass to sound good and not overwhelm the music. Stoked to have music again.

You can add compressed to the system and then spray soap water on it.through the low side port. I usually add 120 psi to
Them and check them. At every connection on it see if find leak.
Then once finding leak reput vacuum back on system to get air and moisture out of it.
Also always replace the Schrader valves the can leak also!
Versus wasting Freon in it and all.

I don't have an air compressor capable of putting 120lbs of pressure into the system or I would.

Plus, since it's such a slow leak I think this is a good way to test out the system and make sure the electrical side of it works and stuff. I know the switch works, the A/C button works, the fan blows cold...but need to make sure it'll even kick the compressor on and whatever. This way it'll be two birds/one stone.

Build thread will eventually have all the updates either way. This has been a journey to say the least.

Just bought few things like a fuel pump hanger 6 bolts oil pan and oil pick up front and rear hatch gas and hood release cables and 2 Ecu

Now that I've done my corners with a dedicated 4ch amp, I thought maybe the 6x9s would sound ok enough down low but they're pretty gutless.
If this is an acceptable enough solution I should look into it. I'm not a car basshead, I have other uses for dual 18s, but I would like a bit more fullness in sound.
🤔

*Looks where I'd have to get it from and for how much* ... Nevermind

Got it back assembled roughly 95%.

The tensioner and belt combo honestly wasn’t too bad. I was expecting much worse. Only thing left is intercooler and front bumper. But I’m gonna wait for that after I check for leaks. Car is on SD so it’ll start without the intercooler hooked up.

The encloser would make them boom or sound thin. I can help you in more depth if you need it. Feel free to message me whenever with whatever you got.

Perhaps. Again, I'm not looking for anything extravagant or even expensive. Just something that can reach below 100hz if I should feel inclined to listen to music, which I only do .01% of the time driving.
The shitty radio reception is more annoying though... I need to see if the antenna is even actually working. Some day.

Instead now I have to deal with this

Heard a squeak at idle that's never been there before today.. took a look and saw the AC pulley was a bit close to the timing cover. Removed the belt and it had the goo on it.
Oh fun

Well, disappointing results. Vacuumed it for 45 mins, then opened a can of Freon after kicking the A/C on full blast. Jumped the terminals to kick the compressor on, it won't draw in Freon. Just stays at roughly +10. There's no giant leak or spraying out Freon anywhere, just stubbornly refuses to draw anymore freon in, and when the compressor kicks on it actually pulls a vacuum down to like -20. Doesn't draw in anything from the can. Can's not frozen or blocked or etc.

I honestly see why people delete the A/C on these cars.

But, I found a brand new condenser. Ordered that along with a brand new expansion valve. If the condenser isn't blocked or the problem, I'm gonna pull the dash and flush/clean the evaporator out and install the new expansion valve. Unless somewhere magically starts selling the evaporator again, in which I'll just buy brand new.

Either way, super disappointing...but at least the compressor kicks on and seems to work and I've got all the hard parts there.

My rear end sounds horrendous. Been trying to pinpoint exactly what is making he creaking noise. Originally thought it was the upper knuckle bushings, but its coming from behind the wheels on both sides. Then i thought it may have been the sway bar since i had new Volk control arms with the embedded links. Took it off completely to compare the RM sway to the one that I had previously taken off the car like a year and a half ago when it didnt creak with either one of these bars.

Didnt realize how wide the RM is. Went down the street without any sway bar and its still creaking away, so Im quite sure that its the lower knuckle bushings. It gets extra bad when the wheels get uneven, like rolling into a parking lot on angle. Ordered Prothanes and gonna holesaw these out when i go on vacation.

Little by little, continued on my rear roll stop. My band saw base just happened to have some 1/4-20 threaded holes in it, so I used them to made a fixture for placement using the original solid welded oem mount.
