I want to put a BOV on my '93 TSI, because I like the sound. I have a stock set up right now. What would I need to buy and or modify to install a BOV.

Well the picture you posted doesn't even show the stock BOV on the car. It is located to the left more. Your car is probably recirculated back into the intake pipe and if you delete the recirculating hose, your car will not run right without proper mods.

And its hard to tell by your post but you do know your car has a BOV correct?

What he ^^^ means is if you buy a BOV that cannot be recirculated, your car will not run correctly unless you switch from your 1g maf to a GM maf or even speed density. Stock cars need to have the BOV recirculated because the maf is adding that volume of air back into the intake system. If you remove the recirculating tube, the maf still thinks its getting that air but that air is really being dumped into your engine bay.

The picture is of the exhaust manifold and turbo. The BOV is located on the piping going to your intake manifold.

You just need a BOV (HKS, Greddy, Tial & etc) and an adapter. I would just make/buy new ic piping and have the adapter welded on if you're still using stock piping. Lastly you will need to recirculate it. You may need to buy fitting to recirculate it separately (Example: HKS).

Correct, and the engine will spike rich in anticipation of the air that was ejected from the system, instead of being bypassed.

I was told that when I get the BOV. I would have to recirculate it then flash my computer so my MAF reads the change instead of trying to work off of the old one. But I can just get a BOV kit and put it right on the stock intake set up?

No flash needed just be sure to recirculate it and you should be fine. You can use the stock air intake (the one with the maf). But for the ic piping where the bov attaches to, it depends on what bov you pick. For example, if you want HKS bov you will need to buy an adapter like this (link below) to mount it to the stock piping. Forge has a bov that fits the 1g flange (had one on my old 2g and it sounded good). Link below, too.

So you want to replace the great stock BOV with one that may be inferior and will sound annoying? Spend your money on something that will make an improvement to your car instead.

It's his car, let him do what he wants.

Op since you want the bov sound you probably won't want it recirculated, but that's going to require changing the tune or else you'll run rich between shifts and could have stalling issues.

Sorry, either you heard incorrectly or your source is not knowledgeable with Dsms.

There is no compensation, you must switch to either a GM MAF in blow through mode or switch over to speed density to not have file trim issues.

The stock 1g bypass valve is an exceptional piece and is better than a large number of valves available to use.

If you want the sound to be louder, get a metal intake pipe (ebay has very affordable pipes) and get metal IC pipes. If you want something now, cut the directional dump tube that is INSIDE the stock pipe out assuming the 1g intake has that pipe.

All air is metered as it passes through the MAF. The ECU expects x amount to be in the system and injects a certain amount of fuel for the entering air for a calculated AFR. When you vent the BOV, that air is leaving the system but the ECU doesn't know that and still sprays the same amount of fuel as if the extra air was still there.

The GM MAF works because in blow through, it's placed AFTER the BOV. I'll let you look up what speed density is and its far superior to a MAF system.

Another way to look at it. You know what boost leaks are correct? Just imagine an improper vented valve as a boost leak when you lift the throttle.

hey man im living proof of the bov sound i like it to ran with out recirculating it messed up my car. it sounds the same either way. its just the question of do you want to mess up your car!!!

What makes a blow off valve loud is it's location. Although changing the location is effing retarded and if you ever do it you should be shot on sight. It's placed where it is by piping kits because anywhere else it opens to fast or too slow. There are exceptions but if you are worried about venting you wont find a better location yourself. The amount of boost ran also gives a louder vent, but not just PSI but the actual amount of air being produced by the turbo.

Large turbos typically give off a loud blow off even at low boost simply because they are flowing a ton of air compared to tiny stock turbos.

The blow off valve itself also makes a very large difference in sound. Some are ungodly loud because they are horn style blow off valves, some sound cool like the tial or the SSQV blow off valves.

The stock 1g blow off valve at 15psi on my 14b is fairly loud, especially on cold days. It is crushed as well, which I hear makes a difference but I really don't know if that is true but oh well.

The truth is most of the blow off valves on the market are SHIT. The SSQV sounds cool but in a lot of cases causes surge, the Tial is probably the best but I've read a lot of people who have had problems getting the spring set correctly and a couple of failures but I'm sure these problems are very uncommon. The rest I've heard a lot of bad things about, such as the Type-S which everyone is so crazy about. There is a reason why the new GTRs come with 1g blow off valves. The stock blow off valve is amazing and if you ever exceed it's stock capabilities you can crush it and it will hold a ton more boost. If that isn't enough you can do other mods to it and at that point the amount of boost it holds is insane, though I haven't heard anything about how much it holds before it leaks.

There is a lot of things you need to consider before throwing a blow off valve on your car, you really need to read the 400,000 threads on this subject and gather enough information to make a educated discussion as to if you want to spend heaps of money for a cool sound, destroy your car, or focus your time on other more important things that will make the blow off louder anyway.

So is there a way to get the "Psssshhhh" sound out of my stock Bov?

Well, first off, you should take a primer or read some more basic information about the car you currently own. There are a lot more important things than the, "Pssssh" sound you so desire. I would also check your basic maintenance items and do a boost leak test to make sure your car is performing optimally.

Then worry about aesthetics.

If you really want a louder blow off valve, to do it properly you are looking at dropping some cash, which, like stated above, I feel would be better spent on maintenance.

All of the major components have been replaced within the last year. Alternator, P/S, Synchros, clutch, timing belt, turbo, etc. I changed the oil, tranny fluid, and coolent when i got it and pressure tested all the lines and they are clean. My boost is stable and where it should be. The car is in great condition other than the paint.

So is there a way to get the "Psssshhhh" sound out of my stock Bov?

Maybe, but the best way to get what you want while still having the car run correctly is to get a recordable sound chip (see link below for an example), install a large speaker for it under your hood, and then add a trigger based on, for example, throttle location.

Amazon.com: 10 Second Recordable Sound Chip for Make Your Own Stuffed Animals: Toys & Games

Then you can have your car make any silly sound that you wish. It could go "Psssshhhh"; it could go "Psssssssttttt"; it could even sigh in the manner of a 13-year-old girl when she meets Justin Bieber.

ps. please - I beg you - don't make me add a /snark tag

Aww thats cute. The 13 yr old girl one is defiantly appealing.

You CAN put a different bov on witout modification. You will need a adapter. I dont know your power goals but you can upgrade to a 1g bov and vent it. To be honest I didnt notice a differece. When I baught my car it had a turboxs on it. Then I put a 1g bov and recirculated it. Still didnt notice the difference. Im now gong to be going speed density and properly venting it. Im assuming you still have stock piping. Here is an example of what you can get. You can find cheaper stuff out there.

honestly i think most of us were in your shoes at one point some actually went threw with it and finally had the turbo psshshshshsssss sound they always wanted accompanied with a shit running car but most of us listened to the people on here giving us advice and waited and went in another direction, i really wanted an hks bov on my stock setup but i listened and waited. now i have a 60 trim with the hks ssqv ive always wanted running speed density and i cant be happier! if you decide to just slap on a bov and your car runs like shit and you post up that your cars running like shit most people wont help you because we know exactly what the problem is but you didnt listen... anyways thats my .02 cents if you really want the sound that bad invest your money into SD or maft or recirculate the bov also if you havent already upgrade to a kn filter and remove the silencer that helps a bit. good luck.

How many posts saying the same thing does it take?

Front mount intake panel filters are awesome too.
Snark snark.

It's his car, let him do what he wants.

He can obviously do what he wants with his own car; I doubt if anyone is going to go to his house and "make" him do anything.

If he just wants to sound cool for his F&F bros, he should go hang out on the Honda forums. If he wants to get the most out of his car performance-wise and actually learn something useful, then it wouldn't hurt to listen to advice from people like jrohner and others who have been around the block a few times.

So you are telling the OP it's just fine to upgrade and vent his BOV without any modifications, and then sending him to a link for a complete intercooler piping kit?

WTF

For that price, might as well get a FMIC kit.

Im deciding against the BOV with no further modifications. I can live without it. I dont want to mod it too much because I hear once you start modding, thats when the problems start. I currently realized my battery was fried, due to me being a ####ing idiot and not connecting the alternator back up after I replaced my clutch.. But i digress. Thank everyone for the advice. Im going to choose a running car over a cool sounding car.
