I have a wallbro 255 lph fuel pump do I need a ajustibul fuel pressure regulator to run it? If so ware can I find one that has a gauge on it for cheeper? (under 100$) what would i run like without it

Yes, a definite yes.

Anything on this list except for the B&M Command Flow unit, most proven are the Aeromotive units.

Like shit during idle and part throttle, shitty gas mileage (cost will be made up in gas money in no time) as well as making your tuning inconsistent.

You done NEED a fpr, but I would definitely get one for the 255. As for FPR's people have had success with many different one. I my self just bought the DSMPARTS.COM bolt on fuel pressure regulator. it was 150 with out a gauge.

also read this it will help alot.

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=186834

"A dsm with an upgraded fuel pump (255 or larger equivalent) will overrun your stock FPR(increasing pressure) causing the fuel pressure to be eratic at idle and also will not raise 1:1 on boost. A non-stable base fuel pressure reading will cause your idle to stumble and It can also cause potential emissions problems. Not raising on a 1:1 ratio during boost will cause you headaches tuning since you will not have the same fuel pressure on every run."

Just to be a nuisance I'll mention that I have a 255 and to my knowledge just a stock FPR. I have no idle issues whatsoever. I use a pocketlogger for my tuning and I haven't notice anything erratic. I'm also only pushing 15psi on a s16g.

Of course, I'm probably dead wrong, some previous owner installed a secret fpr somewhere other than in the engine bay and I will be tarred and feathered for saying all of this. :shhh:

i ran the 255 and the stock fpr for about a year and a half with 550 injectors and afc at 17psi and 235whp and had absolutely no problem but I'm not saying that everyone would be fine doing that maybe i was lucky or maybe the fpr was about to take a crap i don't know but it worked great till i got one. also i have not noticed any change in millage with after the aeromotive fpr install and its dyno tuned like it was before the install. but its up to you i guess id go with one to be on the safe side.

generaly an adjustible fuel pressure regulator is a recommended upgrade when going to an upgraded fuel pump. its very possible a stock fuel pressure regulator would work perfectly, that is, until you continue upgrading (bigger injectors, bigger turbo, that kind of thing). i generally like to upgrade things in pairs such as fuel delivery (fuel pump and pressure regulator, injectors and fuel rail, ...) when needed. so if i have the mods that require a 255LPH fuel pump i generally get a fuel pressure regulator.

Then you're just one of the few lucky few that can't feel the problem or you have nothing to compare with, maybe when you finally put one on you'll go " OMG I should have done this sooner." ;) Also, just because you can't feel it doesn't mean the problem isn't there. How is your gas mileage? (don't lie :D ) what is you low, mid and high trim? What is your fuel pressure reading at idle?

you NEED a fpr with a 255.

If your looking for cheap fpr/gauge, i bought one of the ebay ones for like $50 shipped. Its worked fine for me for over a year now. I just upgraded the lines and used teflon tape and such....this is the key to get it working good and making it reliable.

Show me one example where 255 and stock fpr yields perfect base pressure, no guesses please.

fpr overrun has nothing to do with anything else besides the pump and regulator, assuming that everything else is set up properly.

First off i have a fpr now and it really didn't make a that much of a difference just made me feel safer and yes the fuel maps and stuff are a little better and dyno chart looks better and smoother with a sexier power band now so yes it made a difference the only reason i didn't have one on is $ issues. but my mpg's were about 23 or 24 average with not exceeding 29 or dropping below 21. honestly i don't know what my fp was at at idle. i would defiantly suppport getting one if you have the money to do it.

Loan me an FPR and I'll gladly give it a shot ;) I've got some 550's waiting around for an EPROM and I'll probably want a FPR to go with 'em.

I'll go log my fuel trims this afternoon. Idle holds rock steady at 750 once the car is warm. Last time I checked my gas mileage, no joke, I got 30mpg with the cruise control set on the highway (mountain driving too.) I don't keep real careful track though what with my lead foot. :p I'll check it out more on this tank of gas.

What about low and high? 82%? :p

I have an AEM sitting around. :sneaky:

I'll take you up on that! Hell, I'll even buy it off you if I notice a difference (assuming it is for sale.) I'm syncing my palm right now so I can go log my fuel trims.

Oh, and my mechanic said my base fuel pressure was at 38.

It is for sale but you would need fittings, gauge and ss lines to hook it up, too much trouble just for testing. Either you take it or you don't, pm me if you're interested.

Did he found this out using a fuel gauge? Was it with or without the vacuum line attached? That is very low in either case, the lowest I've seen on a 255/stock fpr setup. If the reading is accurate, I suspect that you have a leak in the systems, most likely the o-ring at the pump. Does it take more cranks to start in the morning?

BTW Your gauge should read 27-28psi at idle with vacuum line connected.

*scratching head sheepishly* Heh, now that you mention it, he did say something about a leaking ring for the pump cover. That reading was with a fuel gauge yes, but I don't know if the vacuum like was hooked up.

You know, we've completely taken over this poor guy's thread. :coy:

You need to do more reading on this site so you know what to ask your mechanic the proper questions or at least understand what he's trying to tell you. :p

Not really, these are common questions/problems people have during this stage of the game so it's probably beneficial to 4g63t as well but you're right, we should return the thread to him. :)

You old men get so grumpy. ;) Actually, I just plain forgot about it with all the other things I've been fixing on the car :p Oh, and moving, and school, and work, and holidays, and getting engaged. ROFL What am I doing sitting here? I should be out working on something!

End of usurpation. :D (usurption?)

Thanks for all the info i will be getting one "to be on the safe side" but I'm short on cash being Christmas time and all it just sux having the pump ready to go in sitting there staring at you. :thumb:

One more thing are most fpr's universel or do you have to get the kind that go onto the side of the fuel rale or do they all go onto the fuel rale? or is there a universel one and T it into the fuel line by the rale.?

Where it mounts is not the important part, what's important is that it's a 1:1 riser fpr, meaning for every psi increase/decrease in intake pressure yields the same change in fuel pressure.

FWIW, I got my fuel trims back: 100 low, 100 mid, 96 high.
What did you do, reset the ecu and go for a highway cruise for 5 mins. ROFL I'm done troubleshooting your car until you find out exactly what your mechanic said to you. :p Either you have a defective pump, a leak in the system or the luckiest guy I know. :)
