I talked to turbonetics a couple of years ago and had a custom turbo made for my 97 eclipse gst. Engine was pretty much stock, stage 2 clutch and fidanza flywheel, headers, stock turbo but boosting 18lbs. My point is I got the turbo and haven't had the money to put it in and with college I was going to sell it but wanted input on price. I was thinking $1000-$1500 for it. I told them i wanted to take my car from 300hp to around 4-500 with little to know engine work and gave them specs and this is the turbo I got so any input would be nice.

I wouldent think that turbonetics would sell you a one of a kind turbo do you have any pictures? any shaft play? what size is the compressor wheel?

Without giving any specs on the turbo it is impossible to give any possible estimate what it might be worth.

Yea I figured that. It is at my parents house so I will have to get specs next time I am over there.

For $1500 you can buy a new ball-bearing GT35R. Hell for $900 you can buy a journal bearing PTE with a billet wheel....so I'm doubting your turbo is worth anywhere near what you're thinking it is.

I looked on ebay and they were going anywhere from 800-1000 so thats where the price came from 1500 is steep for sure.

Although they claimed it was customized for my build turns out it was just their TN-400 turbo. Here are the specs and it is worth about $800

Model-TN 400 Comp. Wheel- HP E-50 Comp. Inlet/Outlet-3.0" / 2.0" F1-57 Turbine Wheel-T3 0.65 A/R Turbine Housing-4 Bolt / 4 Bolt P/N-11516 Compressor Cover-T04E Cover

Wow, that is a bit pricey for a Turbonetics turbo, I guess they have came down to a much more competitive pricing since then. Get some specs and we can help you out, I am very familiar with Turbonetics being I have ran many on my own setups.

I do not believe this guy is a scam, it just sounds like he is not to certain with what it takes when upgrading a turbo. He probably purchased a turbo at retail pricing back when pricing was high, in my opinion he just over payed.

None the less he can run what ever turbo he likes, as long as he has the proper supporting parts such as turbo manifold and pluming for intercooler piping/oiling system.

I do hope he does have proper engine management for tuning which really should be his first large investment.....

He isn't trying to scam anyone, he is trying to get an idea what the turbo is worth. You haven't even seen it yet and you are making assumptions and accusing the guy of trying to scam people.

Read before you post, I didn't contact them. I won the turbo through a facebook contest for being friends with them and they contacted me for specs saying it was a custom turbo, I just looked up this exact turbo on their site and they are selling it for $800. I don't have the money nor time to do the work to my car so I can use it so I was trying to figure out how much I should sell it for.

First you said you talked to Turbonetics a couple years ago and had a custom turbo made. Now you say you won the turbo through a facebook contest. Although I didnt read the reply where you say the turbo specs, the story seems shady... Good luck selling the turbo...

It was a couple of years ago and I did talk to them and they said they said it was a custom turbo and needed specs. I didn't mean for it to sound shady i guess just didn't buy it so didn't know what to sell it for and need the money. I will post pics though once I get some taken, never used, still factory oiled and everything.

What part of "How much is my turbo worth?" is scamming people?

Just throw the turbo in the Classifieds section for $700 obo. You got it for free, so you are way ahead of the game already.

At first I thought gabytech was out of line but after your last response, I think it sounds a little shady myself. First u contacted them to have a custom turbo made. Then you won it off Facebook and they contacted you. You don't know the specs because its at your parent's, yet you looked on the site and know what turbo it is, where the specs are clearly listed. VERY shady...... This isn't a classified section either and it looks to me like you're tryin to get around the post minimum.

I WOULD THINK TWICE BEFORE BUYING FROM THIS GUY!!!!:notgood:

He never stated whether or not he called them to inquire about having a custom turbo made. He said that he talked to them.

LOL.. SORRY, LOL !!! I guess I have to strategize the way I like to help the DSM community cause obvioulsy I'm coming as an ahole... I like to help the DSMers here as best as I can, and if they are newbies or doing something wrong I point it out with the intentions of helping, looks like the way Im helping I'm also been taken for an ahole, SORRY FOR THAT GUYS... This has never been my intention, on the contrary, I like to state my experience and knowledge along side with my opinion so others don't have to go thru engine disaster or whatever troubles many newbies go thru...

I guess I'll leave my opinions to those who are interested in them, so anyone who wants my opinion, tips, or help from now on they can pm me...

Jeash give the person a break. If you think he is shady then don't buy the turbo LOL. You are not helping any part of our community by accusing someone you don't know for something they haven't done. The dude is just trying to figure out what his gifted turbo is worth. He is not even wanting to sell it on this forum... do not blame him there. At least with ebay you have some insurance.
