ok i am very new at this stuff ... i got a turbonetics t3 t4 .50 trim turbo with external wastegate installed ... can i adjust the wastegate ? there is a allen wrench screw in the top ...

also is there anything you will have to do to tune the kit ?

i ordered an engine management system ... i will need this because i lean out around 5k rpms ...

i got and installed a greddy profec boost controller ... what does the balance knob settings do ? also there are settings on the back too... anyone know what that does ?

any help would be awesome

yes i did .... right now im only running 5 psi .. i bought accel 36 lb injectors .. not installed yet

You can raise the boost level slightly by turning the allen screw and adding spring tension, but you absolutely cannot lower the boost less than what the spring tension will allow. My suggestion would be to use a manual boost controller to effectively double your wastegate spring's tension rather than tightening the screw on top of the wastegate.

Ummm....everything. If you thought you could just bolt on a turbo kit and go, you're mistaken.

As would be expected. Your engine is now seeing positive manifold pressure instead of vacuum, so the ECU is rather confused.

Why an electronic boost controller...so you can switch quickly between 3.8 and 5psi?

Sell the Profec because you'll never fully utilize it's effectiveness. Buy yourself a good, quality manual boost controller, find a safe boost level lower than 8psi, tune for it, then stay there until you upgrade other parts (engine internals).

Yeah, you're going to need it.

You really should've done some research before you just went out and bought that turbo. For starters, a turbo of that size isn't really efficient until 20+psi, so if you're running anything less than that you're not really moving air as effectively as a smaller turbo would at the same (or higher) boost level. This is the biggest misconception when it comes to selecting a turbocharger's size....anything bigger that what you need in order to move as much airflow as your engine can handle is only adding lag and hurting performance.

thanks for the help .. actually i do have internals .. je rods, wiseco pistons, and turbo grind crane cams

i did know that i would have to tune the kit ... thats why i posted the forum asking how and what to do to tune it ...

thanks for the help .. anymore info feel free to let me know

If you can get a plug n play megasquirt i would recomend that, or if you want a more "well known" commercial management I say Haltech (not just because i'm a dealer of them either) but things like AEM, Autronic and MOtec are a lot harder for the end user to learn how to use and setup or make changes to in the future.

And with the new platinum ECU's coming from haltech we're running specials on the recently discontinued e6x, e8, e11v2 and such as they were all repalced with the new series, but there will be support and repair for them for at least another 10 years to come, I've got a 26k that needs to be sent in for a new rs232 com chip and it's still supported, is going to be fixed and i was told to not give it up because it's got the strongest injector drivers ever made and they are no longer available from the manufacturer, so if you can find a used e6k you'll have a simple, effective and powerfull ECU that can run 100 low Ohm injectors without even enabling the extra drivers like you have to do on the newer series ECU's

I say stay away from AEM because there's too much to have to do that the units make no real comparison to anything buy hex when it comes to setting up units or making a change in a certain amount.... It's like they overloaded it with features to make it harder to use, and i know the guy that brought it back from europe when it was the GEMS system , then sold the US rights to AEM and he supervised teh refinement... And he's the inventor or maker of the new proEFI which met his goal of being only able to be altered from it's configuration by going back to the shop and having them use their "special box" on it to make the changes.... A Haltech (and megasquirt) both are really user friendly and designed with end user programability in mind.... If it weren't for the fact that i would have to change so much stuff inside the MS units to make them fit wider ranges of vehicles i would start stocking up and installing and selling them as well since it won't violate my deal with haltech since it's an open source ECU and not a commercial proprietary unit made by the competition

I know a guy on here with a 50 trimon a 420a motor with MS and we tuned it on E85 when he came down from sioux city (IIRC) and we had that thing roasting tires in third gear with no issues at low 20's for PSI and running on e85 getting 22mpg. His motor is also built and he melted or cracked 2 pistons in a arow on pump gas before switching to e85, but i cna't say what directly caused that...his name on here is Ajax, PM him for some info if he don't reoply here, he's very helpfull on the MS and a very good person to know as a friend as well
