Trouble Removing Drive Axles on my Eclipse

I have run into a bit of a problem. I have a 99 Eclipse N/T and the CV boots are ate up so I decided to just change the entire drive axle assembly. Well I got everything off and even pulled the drive axle apart at the inner CV boot but I can't get the part of that axle that goes into the transmission to come out so I can put the new axle in. Any tips on how to get it out? Or will I have to go into the tranny and do it that way? thank you all for the help.

Use a flat head screw driver and a hammer and lightly tap between where the axle meets the transmission and it should pop it free.

There are a couple different ways to do it. You can use a prybar or the way I like to do it is use a slide hammer with a chain on the end by the trans pops it right out everytime.

Do this and have another person pull from the other end, and when pulling keep the axle as level as posibble. This is the easiest way I found to remove axles.

You don't wanna pull too hard on that axle or your likely to pull the axle knuckle out of the hub.

just removed both today on a 2g,one pulled out easily by hand,the other used a pry bar to pop it out.........

Picked up a pry bar to lock my wheel when removing the hub nut so will try to pry it off with that, if that fails will give the slide hammer or screw driver and hammer trick a try. Thanks for the help.

Is it necessary to drain the tranny fluid prior to removing the axle?

You should drain the fluid, but you don't have to, just be prepared to catch some that comes out when you pull the axle.

Use the screwdriver and hammer and lightly tap and while rotating the axle, it's the easiest way. You'll get it out in seconds. You just have to wedge the screwdriver gently and tap a hammer as you rotate it.

Be careful not to tear the axle seal. They'll cost you 26.00 for the drivers side and 6.00 for the pass side.

Just get a crowbar and wedge it in there, and give it a good kick. It should pop right out.
