Having problems removing my axles

Pb plaster that thing down and have a large breaker bar and slowly pull back, use a few of your friends there to help pull.

haha
beat that shit with a hammer... and drink your milk!
:beatentodeath:
good stuff but seeing as all my friends are lazy and im not getting anymore buff anytime soon. we got it setup to borrow a air tool set that should give us 90psi which i really hope is enough. im just really afraid of stripping that. what else will i have to remove in order to drop the tranny to replace my clutch? after i remove this nut whats left? just the 2 bolts on the struts or must i remove the rotors and all that shit?

Not sure about 1Gs but on my 2G I don't even take the axles out of the spindle. I just unbolt the lower control arms from the body and pop the axles out of the trans and hang them out of the way. A lot easier than taking that nut loose.

Dude i had the same issue with my 90 tsi and i took a 3ft breaker bar and 2ft worth of pipe to get it off. I went through 2 breaker bars (they broke at the adapter) (snap on so not weak bars) to get it off.

ya thanks for the video i think im going to try that if the impact wont work. il be working on it again tomorrow after 1pm. however, im going to need another pipe other than my jack stand one because i actually cracked it using a trick relatively close to that one. i have no idea where to find a pipe like that LOL. where did you get that one?

If you have a floor jack just use that pipe that comes with it to lower and raise the jack... do you have one?
Edit: never mind you just said that LOL

I just use a metal pipe found around the house *shrugs shoulder* LOL

worst case, i'l remove everything else that i can and see if i can pop it out. like on your 2nd gen.

yes but when i used that trick earlier we cracked the pipe on a ac delco jack stand bar. i have 2 other jacks il have to see if i can use the bars on those. i just cut the rubber off on the one that cracked. but i want to avoid using that one anymore in case it completely breaks somehow. its just a small fracture from the handle area upwards maybe il post a pic tomorrow

Another stupid stupid thing you could do is if the car is still driveable on ground. Have a long add on say pipe and add it to the 1/2 ratchet so it touches the ground. Drive the car SLOWLY and the car itself should have enough power to loosen it. Try having your friends push the car first.
It's either the nut gives or the ratchet... hopefully it's craftsman.
But this is a stupid idea when I come to no solution.

ya its about time i get one of those lead pipes for the house anyways you never know when you might need one. :mrt:
anyways il get back to you guys tomorrow after we give it another go. thanks for the ideas :thumb:

If you have the time. soak it in pb blaster, like said above, but let it sit over night. The next day it should break loose with barely any effort.

ya ive soaked it the past 2 nights. i have noticed that its very well stained orange with pb blaster and i got some of the rust to disappear.

after seeing all these ideas im confident we'l get it out tomorrow

If you can still drive it, don't try putting a ratchet on it and hoping the car can put enough torque on it... Drive it to a shop and have them break it loose for you and tighten it down so when you get back home, it'll be a breeze.

If you can't drive it, just get a 4 or 5 foot length of square or round steel tube from a hardware store. Whatever size that fits over your 1/2" ratchet or breaker bar. You guys need all the leverage you can get. With a 4' bar, you could probably just lean your weight on it and break it loose.

Dude stop bein a ####. Pb blast that shit put something like a lug wrench between those studs and caliper bracket. May help to turn the wheel out and use a cheater pipe. ####in around halfway trying to loosin it will just round it off. Do it right and do it once.

DUDE....... Ingersoll Rang titanium impact LOL.

i needed the full like 800 lbs to get that thing off. I used like a 6 foot breaker bar to no luck. To make matters worse, the axle wouldnt pop out of the HUB, EVEN WITH A 60 TON press. bent the hub......

I would suggest getting a quality breaker bar and get a floor jack, place the bar so it is at about a 4:30 position and jack the floor jack up to the end of the breaker bar. Keep the bar steady on the jack pad and keep jacking it up... it should break loose as long as the jack is positioned to allow the breaker bar to rotate properly and if you need more distance use a 4x4 or anything sitting on the pad until it has enough stroke to get the job done. I just use a cheater bar but I'm a pretty husky guy. That trick worked when I was younger every time :) Good luck.
