Alright so my first question is, are all four of these bolts supposed to be the same? The one circled is a nut instead of a head for a bolt.

My next question is, is there any other way to take off the turbo except from here? I cant get these bolts to break free.

Thanks for the help guys :|

...Since it appears that this is all still stock, there's also one bolt holding the downpipe to the motor I think...

This. Try removing this bolt to see if that frees things up.

Edit: Ah, I see you got there on your own. Well then, do that and remember you will need to drop the turbo down a good deal for the stud to clear the exhaust manifold.

o2 Housing is the one with 3 bolts and one stud right?
Making sure

Anyway I took all the bolts out and the turbo moves but its held on by the one stud in the exhaust mani and the two on the downpipe the Downpipe wont budge at all because it is attatched by a bracket, I think thats what KTgurl was describing

o2 housing is the elbow that goes from the hotside of your turbo to the downpipe (your o2 sensor goes in it)

Thats what I was refering to :thumb:
Im waiting for a 15mm Deep Socket to take it out. ill keep you guys updated

i just put a down pipe on my car before i winter... if your downpipes not moving its cause its still bolted up to the braket right under the to bolts that connect to the o2 housing... after you take that out it should be able to pull out of the way... you can c it in your picture

i cannot get my o2 sensor off.. the nut will NOT turn is there another way to do it?

O2 sensor doesn't need to come off to take the turbo off. Just unplug it and bring the whole shootin' match out with the turbo. If you are just removing the turbo itself and NOT the manifold, here is what needs to be done.

- 3 bolts and 1 stud the connects the turbo to the manifold
- 2 nuts off the o2 housing that connects the o2 housing to the downpipe
- 1 bolt that holds the downpipe bracket to the block
- Unplug the o2 sensor instead of trying to get it off
- Make sure all coolant lines and oil lines are undone from the turbo
- Make sure the vaccuum line is taken off of the wastegate actuator

That should get you to the point of turbo removal from your vehicle. I'm gonna be honest with you... if you take off the manifold too, it makes it a little easier. Atleast it did for me. If it's your first turbo removal, which I suspect it is, it's going to be a little crazy. I know I cussed quite a bit getting the stocker off the GST. I hated that car for a solid 2 days afterwards :) But don't get discouraged, you'll get there. :thumb:

i have the turbo off and on the ground. i have it with the O2 manifold and the turbo leemme try pulling it out

Loads and loads of PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench on both sides of the housing (inside and outside) and a bit of elbow grease.

Put it in a vice and use a large breaker bar with the appropriate socket -- you can rent one from Autozone -- that has a cut out for the wiring. You might also try tightening it just a bit to see if that breaks the threads loose.

where do i pull it from?

If the o2 is still attached to the car unplug it and pull it out later with the o2 in a vice and a wrench. Give her hell.

NVM: I see its already out, your only option it to crank it out, goodluck. All mine have been a b.

^^That. The O2 threads into the housing so you must unscrew it. The plug KT was referring to was for the electrical connection with the rest of the engine harness.

If you have access to a torch or propane torch that might help as well. Try heating around the threads. I cannot count the number of O2's I've broken or sheered in half.

that big nut at the bottom, get a o2 socket or wrench it, you can get the socket here for like $10 and while your at it might as well get a new sensor, fairly cheap and fast shipping...http://www.oxygensensors.com/:thumb:

quick question... my new turbo has a stud to go into the o2 housing but does not have a stud for the exhaust manifold... am i missing something?

Damn, talk about un-molested. Why are you swapping turbos? And there should be four of the same bolts to the top of the turbo, but sometimes that one gets stripped or cross threaded so people drill out the threatd and put the nut and bolt like you said. I did that to mine and it worked fine. (Please nobody flame me for that.)

Mouse Milk!!!!!!!!!!

Not literally, please don't go find a mouse and try to milk it... It's a penetrating oil and it's gotten me out of some serious binds. ie my axle was rusted solid on to the hub assembly, I let it soak in this over night and it just slid right out.

Good luck!

After I get my turbo bolted up and ready, is there anything I need to do before starting the car?

For 1 g's you may be correct, but for 2g's that stud is actually there from Mitsubishi, as whatever the hell I read, it's there for vibration control or whatever the heck. OP what you can do is take a strong vice grip with a lot of PB and wrap your stud in electrical tape or cover you vice grips in rubber, and loosen it by unscrewing it like normal. trust me I did it and yes it was a pain. if you can't get that thing to loosen by human force, bring out the hammer and start whacking the vice grips.

i got the 02 housing off and everything i hope to be getting the new turbo on today after school, i watched the video but didnt really see when he primed it, what do i have to do? i can only watch on my phone and its not the best quality sorry
