First time here and looking for some assistance. Just bought my son a 97 talon n/t. Engine runs strong, we're gonna rebuild it though. Question is this. Transmission does not engage and move the wheels till you rev it to about 5k. Would it be better to try and fix it or get s junkyard for $75? I'm not very good with trans stuff. I'll rebuild an engine all day!

before doing anything you should of checked the fluid level and condition and then scanned for codes . if the fluid smelled burnt then you have worn clutches and you will have gear ratio codes . if you have a loss of prime code then the front pump or low fluid and even a clogged filter could be the problem.

well if the oil is good then its looking like its gonna be the flex plate orrrr the transmission is on its last leg. was it doing this before u bought it??? if so the previous owner fudged it up.... probably why he was selling it

I wasn't expecting a whole lot. I bought it for $300. The engine runs great, body is decent and interior is great. I can't be too upset if the trans is bad. Just trying to figure out what direction to go in. I can pull a trans from the junkyard for $75.
