OK here's the deal. Quite a while back, I bought a used tranny from one of the site vendors who's name doesn't need to be mentioned. This was supposed to be a perfectly working AWD 1g tranny, bone stock with a welded center diff that they welded.

After installation of said tranny, the car would only turn the front wheels, making it FWD. Everything else has been checked, axles, xfer case, rear diff, everything, and the front wheels were the only ones to move. After not getting any traction on the street, I had a sneaky suspicion that only the front wheels were turning. So I put the car on jackstands and only the front wheels turned while in gear.

After being fed up with it, I finally just put in a different tranny, and everything was back to normal. AWD functioned flawlessly.

What could possibly be the issue with this now spare tranny I have?

\Why dont you try contacting the vendor you bought it from. They should be able to help

I tried and to no avail. They pretty much told me, "well you must have ####ed something up then because it worked fine when it left our shop"

I brought it to them and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it with out charging me $350 just to take it out to look at it, then more money to diagnose it, then another $350 to put it back in. I kindly told them to give me my car back...

I ended up getting the 2nd tranny for $100 and it works fine for now. I just didn't want to spend over $700 just for them to tell me my tranny was Fucked.

Bump, I would still like to know what is wrong with my other tranny!

Any Suggestions/comments/thoughts?!?!?!

Probably just idiots that don't know how to weld a diff, welded ONE of the side gears and called it good...

65 views and only 1 half way decent idea as to what is wrong with it?

Come on people, I see more replies on threads titles "OmG I nEedz moAr TurBoz!!!!!!!"

Edit: added to the first post to make my situation more clear.

Old thread bump. Took apart the tranny, didn't really know what to look for so I didn't find out hat was wrong with it, but the Center diff sure as hell wasn't welded as it was advertised. About six months ago I talked to the vendor again, and they were still unwilling to do anything about it.

Whatever, I bought a TRE "High-Torque" trans. Same one in the land speed record GVR-4 on their main page.

If you still have it apart take some pictures and maybe I can help you. My first guess was the viscous coupler but when I have burnt one up it has always left me with just rear wheel drive. However, they could have a viscous coupling eliminator in there for some dumb reason that would give you just front wheel drive. They are put in to dyno awd drive cars on just a single roller dyno.
