Headed to the 1/4 drag strip tomorrow for the first time in my awd manual 1g. Mods are NOT up to date LOL I'll get that changed here soon. I've been cleaning up my tune still so no log to post yet but I'll get one up today/tonight.

The couple questions I have in the meantime are, at what rpm are you guys usually launching at? (old school fp green building about 10psi with a 5k launch limit currently).
Question two, which my dad posed; does anyone launch in 2nd gear? (act 2100 and sprung street disc)... because first gear is practically over by the time the clutch is fully released.

Here's a 3rd gear pull from tonight. My injbattadjust is a little off and the car is running richer with the battery drain of the headlights. No biggie. I'm also not worried about my sd map so much as timing table suggestions or anything else someone might see. This pull had a misfire at the top right before the knock happened. I'm going to change my plugs out tomorrow before the track.

5500rpm is a good starting point for a launch on an AWD DSM, move it up or down as needed based on if the car spins or bogs. And no, no one is launching in 2nd.

What fuel, E85 I'm assuming? You're leaner than your target above 5500. I tune E85 still around 11.5-12, it's just safer and worth a couple HP at most. It's already picking up knock, which is not good on E.

It’s race day!

E85 yes. The knock actually happens more at 11:1. I leaned out to 12-12.5:1 last year after some reading and honestly, it never gets knock anymore (except this run). It misfired right before/at the same time as the knock. I’m not sure which came first but looking at the log I feel like the misfire did.

New plugs going in today. Need to install a battery tie down and wire/set up nlts still

Best of luck to you Brad! :thumb:

I sucked. The car is somehow slower than my galant on a 16g. I’ll post a log of the run tomorrow

Looking over the log finally. It looks like not having NLTS wired up is really killing me. Turbo is losing a ton of rpms in between shifts. I gotta get that sorted. I tried to wire it up using the 90 instructions and then when it wasn't working, I realized that I did a 91-94 ecu swap. Dumb dumb.

Not a bad mph though honestly. For reference my edge did 12.8@106, and I was spinning slightly. NLTS would help a ton. So even with nothing changed there’s more in it. What were you launching at? I can’t tell from my phones terrible audio if you were spinning or it just bogged. Either way the soft 60 is what helped kill the time.

I noticed in the log that from 1st to 2nd gear, it took 1.6 seconds for boost to fully recover… 2.1 seconds shifting from 2nd into 3rd! And over 1 second shifting from 3rd into 4th. NLTS will definitely be a game changer.

Launch limit was set to 5250. It didn’t bog, I guess I just slipped it for too long?? Also only built about 8psi on the line.

I’m not happy with the fact my heavier gvr4 trapped 114 on basically the same mods and a 16g at lower boost (25 vs 28psi)

Hmmm well that’s interesting. It was a cool night too probably 65 degrees out. And “no” to your question about restrictions… the car has all bolt ons no engine work. Stock TB and IM. Stock cams. I figure the hose are the biggest restrictions currently. No oil in my IC piping. Mechanical timing is good. Hafe exhaust manifold with ewg dumped and 3” full exhaust.

Or do what I do. Run no intercooler and spray a ton of water or fuel down its throat.

I am not a fan of methanol injection. Straight water, or add to your fuel system and put as many fuel injectors between the turbo and throttle body you can tune for and tune the engine to the same ratios you would without it.

Both have worked very well for me for a very long time.

So, no pre-turbine injection? I’ve seen persuasive data in favor of it. Especially without running an IC

How does spraying fuel in your exhaust help your cylinder temperatures? That’s right. It doesn’t.

I have been 230mph in a dsm at Bonneville with no intercooler. We road raced a 500whp Galant for YEARS with no intercooler. I made 800whp with my 4G63 rat rod with no intercooler. As you can see, I am a big fan of not using them.

My current land speed car(3800 powered) makes 1,xxxwhp with no intercooler.

Keep it simple. I would rather my setup than a $40 Chinese intercooler. Fun fact, air/air intercoolers aren’t cooling anything. Especially in short distance racing. They are a heat sink first and radiator second at that point.

People have been running no intercoolers for decades. I am no pioneer here. Most run alcohol or better based fuels of course.

And to add salt to your wound. I ran 12.6@112 at 5,800ft(8,800ft DA) with a 14b. Clearly you need to rethink your life goals

There was a fantastic thread on Yellowbullet where someone figured out it would have to be the size of a billboard to actually cool. I'll post it if I can find it.

I also see on that forum people will swap out their intercoolers for the same size intercooler but with a legit core and pick up very impressive numbers. There is a reason some of those cores are $1000+.

I meant pre-compressor. You sound pretty cool btw thanks for the advice 🙄
I have sprayed both fuel and water before the compressor. I currently spray water both before the compressor and inbetween the compressor and throttle body. It is actually in the compressor housing as my compressor outlet is attached directly to my throttle body.

I use straight water as an aid to help with cylinder temps and egt’s. I let the fuel injectors supply the fuel. This car has enough injector to suit its needs. The last didn’t, so I sprayed fuel both before and after the compressor through combination changes. Results were about the same for fueling and cooling.

I am not here to church it up. You want results, I have answers to get you there.

Btw if you want to test some changes and the track isn’t open I have a dragy you can borrow. Just have to find a good stretch of road that’s flat. I’ve tested and compared it to my track slips and it’s within like .05-.10 on the 1/4.
