Today i was trying to tune my car by adding timing. Before i was runing 17 deg. from 5300 to 7650 rpms. Today i added 5 more deg on top and didn't see any knock. Is it normal or something is wrong? im running 23psi, 93 octane+ 20% water and 80% methanol. would adding more timing will give me more power or its better to turn up the boost till i see knock? btw my AFR sits at 11.2.0

seem like the water and meth you are using is keeping the knock down. 80% meth is plenty, i see some even use 100% meth up top. i say don't do anymore timing. Only mess with timing when you see knock.

adding timing will not necessary give you more power, its the ability to reduce knock which allow you to run more boost. more boost more power.

Seeing how much meth you are using, at this point, i don't see a need to mess with timing.

There's a (soft) limit to where timing is no longer useful (Minimum Timing, Best Torque or MTBT), since you're running meth you should be able to not only get to MTBT without knock, but you may even be able to go beyond it. You should add timing until you knock or hit MTBT, if you hit MTBT first, you should add more boost until you knock or are just crazy out of the efficiency range.

EHHHH can't add more boost, because my fp red is maxing out the injectors... :( BTW when you guys do the afr tune with ecmlink. do you use the old est afr as for afr? because my Old est air fuel ratio shows 10:3:0 and my AFX wideband says 11:2:0. When i open max octane table, there is numbers ,that old est afr sees. When i change the numbers in maxoctane table to 11.5:0 instead of what my old est afr reads (10:3:0) ,then my wideband reads 12:6:0 ??

Well then you can add more timing until you get to MTBT or you knock, whichever comes FIRST.

As always EVERY car is different but an increase of 1psi of boost will give you more power than 1* of timing advance. On the dyno they advanced timing 4* keeping boost the same and see a 22whp increase but theres always that sweet spot where you don't see anymore gains. On my car 17* advance was that sweet spot... We got to 17* advance and then went to 19* and still didn't see any knock however, the dyno only picked up 2whp increase so it wasn't worth it. Just because your not seeing knock until 22* advance doesn't mean your making more power than you would be running 18* advance. What it does mean though is that your running that engine of yours to the ragged edge for just a few more horsepower.

BTW when you guys do the afr tune with ecmlink. do you use the old est afr as for afr? because my Old est air fuel ratio shows 10:3:0 and my AFX wideband says 11:2:0. There are two reasons why your seeing this in your logs, you might have taken fuel using your fuel sliders or your air metering isn't tuned properly at that load/RPM cell.

As always posting a log is more beneficial than anything you can type in your posts, that way we can see what your explaining.

at 18 psi im reaching the injector duty cycle to 80%. But this turbo, that i have(fp red) starts waking up at 25 psi. Could i make a good tune running 18 psi? or just wait till i will upgrade the injectors?!

but im wondering ,as for right now, tuning the timing and leaning afr lets say 11:7:0 at 18 psi, could i make power on that psi range ,or there is nothing i could do?! because im low on budget now,and want to make a car to its peak power now..... is it worth of spending time messing with timing and afr , or just wait for bigger injectors and tune the car at 27 psi?! Because from my understanding if my injectors are over 90% of duty cycle at 22 psi it wont make more power then good tune at 18 psi right?

you wanna be around 70-80% IDC to be safe. do your direct access fuel tables in ecmlink matchup with your wideband? you might need to adjust your deadtime or injector size if they don't.

If you dont have anymore cash to spend just tune your boost level to were you get about 80% IDC and then add timing to make the most power.

IDC has nothing to do with the power the car makes. And couldnt you just add some more meth+water to lower those IDC.

It's ok to run past 80% idc but most say don't do it cause you don't have much overhead. If you get a boost spike about 3psi more than normal when you tuned at 98% IDC you might be in trouble but in most cases it should be fine to run them to 90%. To get the idc down a bit you can run a little more meth, leaner afr (11.5-11.7) and turn the boost up a few more psi to get the FPred into the "fun zone"

Today i noticed one thing while i was making the logs. Iwas trying to match my WB readings with the AFR ,that is on ecmlink. But on my logs its shows, that im logging two afr's. One is "est air fuel ratio", and the other one says "Air fuel ratio" witch one i should be matching my WB readings to??

How many times must I say it? You can type up a page trying to explain whats going on and we might understand it OR you could post a log without saying anything more than a sentence and we could see EXACTLY what your talking about.
