throttle body shaft seals question

I replaced every gasket on my throttle body other then my shaft seals because of this damn boost leak around the throttle body, i was reading that the auto parts store seals don't fit as well as OEM.. is this true?? Or is it okay to go down to the auto parts store and buy some?? Any help is appreciated thanks..

Vfaq has a couple links on replacing the tb seals. .63 volts for the tps.

You can adjust the TPS based on voltage for a 1G. The 2G TPS has the closed throttle switch built into it, so the procedure for adjusting it is different.

RREs  Eclipse 2G Turbo 1G Throttle Body Swap (directions for adjusting the 2G TPS are at the bottom).

Thanks for the tips guys!! The Allen heads are a great idea but i don't think I'm going to take the t/b that far apart, I'm going to just try to remove the shaft and replace it with my STM milspec shaft seals

You may as well close off the FIAV while you're doing any seals:

The little screws for the lower portion are 5mm x 35mm length (four of them) and one 5mm x 20mm length. They're 0.8 thread pitch too. Replace them with the allen head screws you can get from H Depot.

Unfortunately home depot is an hour away from my house and not real feasible to drive there for $4 of screws..

But thanks for the tip on the free FIAV block off!! I think i might just go ahead and do it to clean things up in the bay a tad bit more

I love my Street Tuned Motorsports mil spec throttle body shaft seals! I had them professionally installed and it was a very big boost leak before I did. You want to make sure you have your idle control stepper motor set right in ecm link if you have it (I got v3 full) and make sure that it's a good i.c.s. by testing the ohms if you have the equipment. If you don't got a tuning software that logs i.c.s. value then I'm not sure how to go about setting the b.i.s.s and i.c.s. Also make sure everything is put back together exactly right if you do it yourself or take it to someone. And if your b.i.s.s. looks worn out replace it while you do your seals it's only a few bucks!

Just keep in mind the issues when using the mil.spec seals. Another trick you can try is putting them in the freezer for an hour or so before installing.

Unfortunately I do not have Dsmlink yet bit will be getting v3 soon ... That will make it harder to set everything but I'm sure I can tinker around with it and get it right....

And yeah i replaced the BISS also, and I'm going to do the FIAV free block off linked above as well.

I have confidence that my dad and i can get it done and back together properly.... Could anyone help me out with a link to the vfac?

That's odd... I didn't use any freezer method. I was able to use a wooden dowel or socket or something (almost 2 years ago) and not mangle them at all.

I did manage to strip or snap, or do something infuriating, to a TB butterfly screw since I red "loctited" it only to realize it was on backwards. Don't do that.

Still everytime I test for boost leaks, the mil spec seals are not a problem at all. I used plenty of silglide for the installation. (brake pin grease).

I had no issue what so ever having them installed professionally. I think there way better then stock especially for high boost set ups. And cool, it's an easy thing to replace I still actually got to replace mine eventually.

I just did my throttle body just a week or so ago again. The first time I did it I used those redesigned ones and had a pain getting them in. Turns out I tore the rubber side off one to where the metal was exposed and it was causing a leak. Luckily I kept those original metal cap things and just bought some o-rings from ace hardware. That went in easy with a 10mm socket and a few light taps. No leaks, cheap, and did not have to wait for shipping.

A trick my friend did was he wrapped about 5 coins in tape then we put the coins over the seal and bam got them in there. Granted that 1 did manage to mess up but that was before the coin trick. Still good for first try though

Im going to have to try the sealant on my bbk... with they would or someone would come out with replacement bearings for these things as its well known to leak..
