All those mods would help, but is it still a 14B? I could see a clipped td05h wheel dropping backpressure while still being considered a 14B, but if you start adding T3 housings and td06 wheels you should just get a whole new turbo.

I agree with Dave. If you start changing wheels, then it's no longer a 14b.

^pretty much....

Some might argue that even a 7cm housing makes the turbo no longer a 14b, since it never came that way in a stock vehicle configuration. However, it bolts on in the same position and doesn't alter the factory operation at all.

If you take a stock 14b turbo and do anything to it, porting, clipping , whatever, it's still a 14b, IMHO. All of the original components are still there.

.

I love that statement. When I'm at the local meet and were all doing the usual car talk and if my hood is open the big joke is that I just have a "stock" turbo because its all bolt on mitsu flanged equipment. LOL Meanwhile its holset 35. We all know its obviously been modified but We like to joke around with the hole "dsm bolt-on" BEP housing.

There is a difference between something being Mitsu flanged and an OEM Mitsu part. A Precision 6262 turbo that's Mitsu flanged doesn't work, so why should a hotside that's WAY bigger and not a factory Mitsu part work? A Holset hotside is not an OEM Mitsu part like a 7cm housing is. Gotta admit that would be out of the equation in my book. If it's a factory part from Mitsu (regardless if it's clipped, ported, etc) then it's a go.

I think i have a pretty good story!:sneaky: Well so Friday me and a couple of friends went to the strip. Me with my talon, my brother with his 95 gt, and my friends s2gay. Well so obviously the honda guy thinks hes hot sh*t because he has a honda! Well so my best of the night was a 15.1, gt was 14.8, and s2k was 14.9. All i have is exhaust done. Well i went to the track tonight with my brother him thinking he will smoke me this time well i lined up and he won but he ran a 14.8 while i ran a 14.3.:) Well i thought it was wrong but i ended up running a 13.7 by the end of the night!OMG Thought i could share my beautiful 14b story!

I know what you mean but I guess you had to be there to get the joke.

I would imagine there's a point where such a large housing wouldn't provide any ET gain at all on the 14b.....

Ran over to Milan tonight for the test-n-tune. Got there a little late because the wifey didn't get out of work til later. Only got two passes in.

Pass number 1 netted a new personal best 60 foot of 1.67. I'll live with that on street tires all day! The new suspension stuff is obviously helping. I'm sure with some more practice I can cut some low 1.6's at least. Unfortunately I missed 2nd gear (seems to be a driver mod issue on my first pass every time).

Second/Last pass I calmed down and concentrated on hitting the 1-2 shift. Cut a 1.68 60 foot and got her into 2nd gear. Shifted her on through and rode out 4th through the traps. Grabbed my timeslip at the booth and just smiled.

12.25 @ 111.9!!!

That's a great step from 12.8 last time out and over .2 better then last years 12.47. I can almost smell 11's, they're coming! More seat time and some more tuning! Gotta throw out a thanks/dig at Travis, one of the first goals this year was to pass his best time. :thumb: Thanks for the motivation.

Congrats Shane:thumb: Who knows what would have been had you got 5-6 passes. Awesome!

Nice job....keep getting that seat time and show the Mustang your taillights as often as you can....

Good job, Shane! You're making steady progress, it's nice to see it paying off. Keep up the good work!

12.25... nice Shane!

Thanks guys! I'm very happy with it for my 2nd outing this year. I know there's still alot left on the table with better driving and just plain old more practice. I'm also still down on power from last year despite the addition of the front mount. I need to do a proper boost leak test and get that bov crushed. It might be my imagination but I feel like I can hear air coming out of the bov under boost. Either way I know it's leaking at 21psi which can't be helping. My boost leak tester pops off at anything over 10psi during testing so I'm going to try getting a better test before the shootout. There's also more in the tune as my timing is still somewhat conservative and the afr's are at 12.0:1 and I know I can lean it out further on the corn juice. Not sure how much more power it'll make but I feel like if I get my rear in gear I can still get 11's this year.

Hopefully I'll get to make a couple passes at the shootout and make some more progress, either way it'll be fun. I'm going to try to find a rental to attend after getting back before the fall weather starts closing down the tracks here in Michigan.

Dude, I would love to see you bang out 11 seconds. That would be a serious accomplishment for sure. Best of luck.....

BOV? WTF Are you lifting on shifts? Sounds like extra weight to me! Congrats on the run, thats cookin! Any auto contenders this year besides nate?

I think the only two guys out this year at all are Shane and Nate. There were many "talkers" last year that of course never made it out, not publicly anyway.

A great end to the season would be Shane hittin 11's and Nate besting the 10.61 14b NOS record.

I thought you were talking about me until I saw the 10.6. I made it out to the track a few times this year too and ran a best of 14.1 @ 113 MPH. While my ET might be laughable, I'm putting down some great MPH. I'm loving the E-85 on the 14b! :hellyeah: I think I already mentioned it on this thread but my next mod (within the next month or two tops) is going to be a Quaife LSD so I can get rid of those one wheel launches.

Glad to hear someone is cheering for me!:thumb:

I did not get the car finished or to the track yesterday, but Im planning on running on Sunday at Island Dragway w/ the 14b auto. Tuesday night Nelson and I spent the night fighting with the engine mount brackets. I had the wrong ones on the car the whole time and finally found the correct AWD Auto brackets. I had a feeling my knock problems that would show up on the converter spool at the starting line were due to the tranny touching the frame of the car, so this was a "must fix" simply for my piece of mind. I'v been running E85 with a very conservative timing curve and fat A/F and seeing knock sensor activity all random times.

Anyway, while getting the rear mount on, what do I find: NO BOLTS HOLDING THE BRACKET TO THE BLOCK! both are completely missing. Hello knock problem!!!! I can't say what happened other than installer error.:ohdamn:

So, with the engine now correctly fitted to the car (wow..it fits nicely now without shoehorning it in with prybars), Im hoping that my random knock sensor issues are gone and I can actually get to tuning the timing instead of chasing my tail & blowing up ever 3rd run. With no knock sensor issues, I should also be able to fully utilize the nitrous.

We also hooked up the nitrous setup and tested it to be 100% sure we had fuel and spray delivery to all 4 nozzles. This was COOL!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77oeDqAz-2s

We also tested fuel supply by removing the fuel rail w/ a -6/-6 bulkhead and jumpering the fuel pump. Nothing spectacular to show, the fuel just kinda spritzes out of each nozzle...but we confirmed we have fuel flow on all 4. I'm now somewhat confident that my failures the last two times out were due to tuning/knock sensor and not due to distribution or or plugged fuel passage in the nitrous system.

Im meeting Nelson at the shop tonight to slap a cyl head on w/ a re-used HG yet again. Hopefully we'll get the engine buttoned up and will be set to run on sunday for another attempt at some sort of record. Ill report back tonight after working on the car.

You know what, I'm sorry, my bad totally. And, Steve93 as well. Dude your ET's are not laughable.....low 14's are a great start.....and yes the trap speed is very nice.......just forgot about the FWD guys for a blink:shhh:

rock on! the MPH looks good to me, that's quicker than Im running by 2mph and my car is a tin can! Good job.

Nate, I won't speak for anyone else, but I think all the core guys up here are rooting for you to kick some azz. I'm definitely wanting to see some nice numbers for you and hopefully that 14bNOS #1 slot. I know that's what you feel is most attainable with your budget/set-up. So, I hope you nail it down, and maybe even take it to sub 10.50 land.

So, I wish you killer luck this week with no failures and it seems the engine mount thing may be the ticket to solid logging and tuning. Good stuff.

I'm battling my own 14b/knock/boost issues so I don't post in this thread much but I read it at least a few times every day and I too am pulling for you Nate. Sounds like you got a few key things squared away for your next run. I can wait to see the results. Best of luck. :hellyeah:

Comparing the timing I ran last year w/ 16G at higher boost level with no knock to speak of VS w/ 14b and lower boost....I should have known something odd and mechanical was causing the knock. Im running WAY less timing with way less power & boost now and chasing my tail with the tuning. The last nitrous pass I blew up from running so little timing that the exhaust valves burned!
