Thanks Phil, definately quite a bit left on the table with the 60' alone. But, as I always say, gotta get it down the track to find out. :thumb:

Yep, true. Execution is the hardest part...

I'm pretty sure we all have been doin more thinking than wrenching these days. I know I almost busted out and rebuilt my supercharged revo just cause the shops to cold. But I think going out and trying to best your own set time is how it's done. I'm sure you'll pull something together Shane.

I finally put in a few hours on mine. Did more spot weld drilling and cutting of metal. Knocked out another 8lbs out of the trunk area. Ditched the latch and converted over to Dzus fasteners to keep the hatch closed. I'm leaning more towards skipping the lower elevation race in January to really get the car finished up with all I need to do. Try to best my 11.3 at the local track.

Part of it is besting your own ET for sure but with you and Nate within .13 I'd expect to best your ETs at the same track visit. However, by the time I hit the strip the next time, I'm sure you'll have run quicker, so the gap will be much larger. But, of course, that remains to be seen. You are the top active 14b car which is cool, but 11.3 is well within reach for some of us. It's good we have an ''active'' goal to chase....

It is exciting to see people getting active with their 14b cars. Race season will be here before we know it...unless you are in Ci and race season doesn't stop. Unfortunately for me, I have to travel to the east coast from early Feb to late April, so I won't beat the track anytime before May. Rebuilding the head and doing more weight removal right now. Need to do BSE kit before it all goes back together. Also doing some wire harness work.

For sure, we've something to talk about. Good to see people making their way into the 11's too. I won't be at the track before May either. People like to make wise cracks about how long it takes me to get back to the track and forget to think that I might actually live outside of dsms. Some guys can race every weekend, sure there's a degree of jealousy there, but I wouldn't trade my life now to go back to that. So, I get there when I get there. How long ago did Joe B. run 10.87? Oh, that's right.....and his run is STILL the benchmark, on the list, and in our discussion here.

I'm not even actively thinking anymore since my local track (island dragway) is now closed permanantly. All the other tracks are 2+ hours away and/or shithole englishtown (I hate that place with a burnin passion). It has sapped my motivation to rebuild a "trailer-track only" car again, so my 11.37 might stand as the best effort I'll muster.

My wife and I are making plans to move our household far south to Ga or Fl, if so, I'll likely be back to my old self again.

That's cool. Bet your 11.37 holds top 5 for a while anyway. I think about moving to Florida all the time. I'm so sick of winter it's not funny. What sucks about track only cars is that they barely get used. But, that's what the dsms will be for me from here on out. I just can't see myself roaming the streets with a 20+ year old car anymore. I'd rather another EVO or something new.

You see to many evo 8,9,10s running the streets. It's nice to see a clean 20+ year old car roaming the streets once in awhile. Maybe I'm just to much of a die hard 1G guy.

I'm 100% a 1G guy, and everytime I see one on the street I'll do a double take. However, at this point, there are just too many other vehicles I'd rather be out on the street with. Not to mention the safety of newer vehicles. I had my Galant VR4 for my street ride until I saw how poorly a child seat mounted in it. That's when I decided that old cars are just that, old. I'm not saying I'd never register a DSM for road use again, but it's unlikely.

I daily drove my last DSM for a while with it gutted. This time around I kept it on the street while the car was pretty much stock, but now that it's getting stripped, it probably won't see the street again.

Quick update on mine. Found a FWD trans to run in this thing for 14b purpose. Got it for $165 shipped. Under 90k miles on it. It is from a 91, so it should be slightly stronger. The bigger update was with weight. With everything I have weighed upon removal, I have been rounding down the weight just to ensure I am not "inflating" my numbers. Last night I found a thread that had the weight of a 1g awd trans and a 1g fwd trans. The difference as posted was 40lb. On my log I entered it as 35 to keep it safe. However, I did notice some things in that thread that I hadn't put on my log, like the spare tire, jack, tools, floor mats, etc. At any rate, once I glanced through all the weights of the parts and checked my logged total, I am currently at 997 lb of weight reduction. I still have to do some spot weld drilling to remove the factory strut brace, along with other minor brackets, as well as gut the doors and finish my wire harness work. Gets me excited knowing I am about to cross the 4 digit marker for weight reduction!

Oh I see what your saying. This is the reason we picked up an evo x. Needed something newer, reliable, and safe. The 1Gs are turning more into classic material.

When I weighed my awd converted to fwd trans, 1g fwd trans, and 2g fwd trans there wasn't that big of a weight difference. I can double check but the difference wasn't that big. It was something like 5lbs difference between 1g and 2g then like close to 15lbs between 1g and awd converted trans.

Let me know what you figure out. I know the 1g wad trans and the 1g fwd trans is a significant difference. I can pull a FWD trans off and drop it to the ground just with my hands. No way in hell could I do it with the awd trans. And I don't know if that took into account the added weight of the additional fluid in the awd trans compared to the fwd.

I wouldn't even attempt the AWD version by picking it up manually. I have a little piece made that will help keep it about 90% aligned/balanced as I lift it with a jack. But like you said, the FWD I could pick up off the floor and lift into place by reaching over the fender (as long as the car wasn't jacked up too high). Wish I still had the AWD trans to get an accurate difference.

Exactly. If it were just me, I'd definitely have a street dsm. It's not about me anymore.

I first wanna say Merry Christmas to all you other 14B guys.

When using the awd trans you lose a lot of weight with it converted for fwd use. Your ditching the viscous, center diff gears, and out put shaft. It's a good trans for use with higher power fwds since its stronger all around. Just sucks because you have to run a taller tire to keep the rpms right.

This is where the evo is a good compromise.

Yeah, I see what you are saying about the weight in converting the AWD for FWD use. Those gears tend to be pretty heavy. I should get my trans on the 27th according to tracking. Trying to pick up some slicks for a good deal, but haven't heard back from the seller. My budget build for the stock bottom end will consist of the ported 1g head, Evo 8 valves, 3 angle valve job, Kiggly Street springs, FP or BC cams w/ gears, stock bottom end with ARP studs, Evo 3 E/M, Evo 8 injectors, etc. I am hoping to come across a decent deal on a SMIM for the 1g head and a 1g t/b. I want to do a high compression motor, but for right now I'm trying to keep the build budget low to try and get it done before summer, but still not sure it will be there!

Everyone have a nice Christmas? Car parts under the tree?

Ha I wish. Great Christmas but very little gifts. I do however have a very nice brake booster delete bracket being made. Got a pic this morning of it. Can't wait til it's installed. Kind of a self Christmas present.

I don't ever really get anything under the tree, but my girls had a good Christmas. My Evo valves showed up. Waiting on lowering springs to get here. Also waiting on the trans which should be here today. Got a hookup on Evo 8 injectors from a friend. Waiting to here back from someone on some wheels and slicks. So a lot of little stuff going on, but a lot of waiting.

I'm just catching up with this thread now, I've been on vacation and been quite busy away from my cars. I'm getting my EVO ready for a 1000 miles rally to Las Vegas (2013 Dustball Rally 1000 and the DSM has just been sitting in the garage. It's ready to go down the track as soon as I can get myself ready.

Frontline Fabrications? I saw that on Facebook, VERY SEXY!!!!

I didn't get any car parts under the tree but my wife was a very good girl this year and got a gift for her and the baby on the way. :D It's a 2013 Subaru Outback Limited, should have plenty of room for our growing family and lots of nice little luxuries that we aren't used to with our other vehicles (EVO and Jeep)!

Nice! No car parts for me either......but I got a one man air brake bleeder and an LED work light. So, that helps!

Damn....so the wife got the hook up with the Outback! Santa must have a C130 cargo plane...haha....nice car. Tried to convince my wife on one a few years back. She opted for the the Outback Sport instead....which we found out was way too small for family.

Oh, the FF booster delete plate is sick. One of my dsms is already without a booster, so, I may do the delete in my AWD. However I think they are still ironing out the details on the exact master to use.

We were originally going to go with either the Impreza Sport hatchback or the new XV Crosstrek (which is basically an Impreza body lifted like the Outback) but decided we needed the extra space. I'm glad we went with the much roomier Outback!

Back to the DSM though, I am still hoping to ditch the stock front seats and automatic seatbelts in favor of a single lightweight Summit Racing seat and harness. Also hoping to at least get the doors gutted and fitted with Lexan in the next few months. That should get me below my initial goal of 2,200.

Not a whole lot to report, but progress none the less:

So I believe I'm finished with wiring removal on the car. Basically the only things left are the engine harness w/ MPI relay, an upgraded alternator wire, and a switch panel I made today. Here is the switch panel. I still have to cut it on the black line to the far right and bend it at a 90* on the horizontal line 1/3 of the way from the top. It will mount above my shifter where the metal brackets were mounted to hold the radio, ECU, etc behind the center of the dash.

And here it is with the 'power harness' I made for it.

All in all, I think it will turn out alright. The larger wire is direct to the battery. Each wire is tied in off one main wire. I still have to put the wiring in for the starter push button as well as do all the wiring out to each respective component. But that obviously won't be done until I get the panel mounted to make sure I get the right amount of wiring! Total weight in wiring removed came in at 29lb. I am guessing I will add back 10-12lb, leaving me with a weight reduction right around 18lb.

Crosstrek is cool. But, any Impreza is too small for a family if you ask me.

Nice...gettin rid of all the seatbelt stuff drops a good amount of weight.
