I went last week but it was a complete disaster. I made two 14 second passes spinning the slicks all the way through third gear. It was very cold and windy with no vht. I had the slicks at 14 psi. Afterwards I lowered them to 6psi but didn't get anymore passes.

14 psi is way to much. I run mine now at 7psi. I pretty much was using 10 at a starting point. Make sure to get a 0-15psi gauge since anything higher than that isn't as accurate. You'll see every half lb when you start dropping them down.

My progress is pretty slow. I mounted my slicks on 9" wide wheels instead of the 8" ones that they where on. I also screwed the tires down since last time I was out they spun a little on the wheels. I think part of the readin why was that they where freshly mounted. Wired up and got to test my NLTS tonight and everything is working like its suppose to. Only thing left before the track is getting the map tapped into the exhaust to start measuring back pressure. I have everything, just need the time to do it.

Some other things I would like to get done include burning off the rest of the undercoating on the chassis. I need to finish spot weld drilling the rest of the brackets on the body. Last thing is ditch my temporary downpipe and find an o2 housing flange so I can route the exhaust back out the hood where I had it on my 6262. Should be a little lighter setup.

You guys are ALL bad asses and you motivate me! I hope someday i can only be half as good as most of you!!

With that being said, i almost got my rotating assembly complete with my goal of having a daily street driven 14b car with occasional track use, maybe nothing special but it means the world to me.. haha

If this "built" engine doesn't work out, i already have plans on building a completely stock engine, one way or another i'm going to have a daily driven 14b car LOL with occasional track use, and hopefully before i have to start going back to school this spring semester!!

Keep on wrentching it everyone!!!!!!

Afterwards I lowered them to 6psi but didn't get anymore passes in because my alternator went out on me. On the way home all my lights went out and I was driving blacked out at night. Also the car shut off twice and I had to jump it in the middle of the street both times. I vow not to go back without a trailer and not unless they are spraying VHT..

I was hoping to go again last night. I installed a hitch on my wife's jeep and was planning on trailering it out there but my wife was feeling sick and throwing up (she's pregnant) so I decided to stay home. I'm hoping with the lower tire pressure, a much better burnout, and VHT I can get the slicks to stick. Maybe next week.

Sorry to hear this, but, don't get discouraged. All you need is seat time. It'll come.

Thought I would throw out a quick update about my ride and how it's going. Got a parts list together with some help of a seasoned veteran to push toward the record. I've also got about 90% of the work done on converting my AWD Talon to a FWD to try and give a good run at the record. I'm currently at 593lb of weight removal...that I've actually calculated. This includes the whole rear subframe, xfer case and the rest interior and the crash beams. Some things I have removed but didn't calculate was the center console, everything under the dash and some miscellaneous items from the engine bay (like the whole a/c setup and both stock fans). For quick weight removal, I still have the dash, radio, front door panels and gutting the doors, all the brackets that can be 'drilled' out from the interior, lightweight hood and hatch (which I've already got a good deal on both) and some other things. The swap to a FWD trans should net a decent amount of weight loss compared to the AWD. Getting rid of the AWD fuel tank for a 1 gallon cell will save quite a bit. I'm going with a half width civic radiator, so that should save about 10 lb from just the radiator, plus the weight of half the coolant. As is, the car looks like it's sitting on stilts. I've cut half a coil out of the stock springs, and there is currently about 7-8" or so of gap between the rear tires and the fender! LOL

At any rate, the weight removal is come along ok. But that's the free part. It's the parts needed to build the car as we have it set out thats going to take a bit of time. Due to some travel for me at work next year and having to save up funds for a while, I'm not really expecting this thing to hit the track until the end of next summer! :(

FWD rear 'dead axle' with a little custom work to take some additional weight off of it.

Did some more work today (11/17/12). Pulled some more things out of the car. Door panels, speakers, brackets all removed. Also removed the stock fuel tank and some other minor items. I also did a little research to try and find a list for the weight of a/c components and other components I have removed. As of right now, the total is at 770lb. Still a long way to go though!!

I'm still waiting to get everything back from swain tech hopefully i'll still be on track for some dyno numbers in January for you fellas. Everything should be in by the time i get home in 12 days, so i'll throw up some pics.

Can't wait to see the pics.

Side note, just had my son yesterday so progress has been slow tryin to get everything ready. Just more or less waiting for nice weather and a track to open.

Congrats on your son. Interested to see these things hit the track next year.

i am curious to see how your car hooks up after the awd to fwd conversion and all that weight reduction. you might end up having to do that odd wheelie bar thing that the civic guys do to keep the weight tranfer closer to the front. will deffinatley be interesting. you shaved some serious pounds off that thing.

Still shaving more. I'm actually just over 860lb removed right now...and still haven't cut anything away from the car. Full doors, all glass. Only thing changed for lighter weight was the hood to a carbon fiber hood. I will be swapping the rear stock hatch and wing for a fiberglass hatch with lexan as well. Already know where I'm getting it from and how much it's going to cost.

As for the traction, we'll have to see. I plan on keeping the back a few inches higher to keep the weight on the nose and keep the rear shocks as stiff as the AGX will go. That should help quite a bit.

Removal of certain areas of seam sealer, but, it's slow going. Either way, it's progress. That's all I've got.

Have been making some slow progress too. Here is a quick time line over the last month and a half:

Pulled the motor out due to a premature thrust bearing wear

Worked out a couple of bugs and got to play a little bit witht the 2step before doing the first oil change, yesterday. Hopefully, this one lasts a little bit longer than before but if not, i will just have to do it all over again LOL

That's some nice work...

I have to ask has anyone ever heard of someone using a evo8 turbo on a 2g. I got my friends old evo8 turbo when he upgraded and i had the machine shop port out a 14b hot side and hone it out a bit for fit. Everything has gone pretty smooth and all i have to really modify is my oil return. so im wondering power put down of my evo8/14b :)

Do a little searching. The Evo 8/9 turbo rotates the opposite direction.LLet us know how that works out. The Evo 3 16g is just as capable as an Evo 8 turbo, if not more capable and can be bought for less than what that machine work probably cost.

To keep this thread clean, is not really the place for that question. This thread is all about drag racing the 14b...not a hybrid, not a 16g not anything else...just the 14b. If you search you will find the info you need.

Phil, if you don't mind me asking, what are you using to remove the seam sealer? That stuff is no joke. There are a few placesi would love to clean up if I can find an easy enough way to remove it.

I used a handheld torch and a metal scraper. Get it hot and gooey then it peels right off. Then the rough stuff left I took a drill and a rust removal disc and cleaned the metal.

Assorted metal scrapers. Once the bulk is removed I've got a circular wire brush for the airtool that I'll use to get the remains.

Thanks for the great info Justin and Phil! Might as well do that while I'm getting the sound deadening off the floor.

No prob. These aren't fun jobs at all. But, if you want that last bit of weight out, it's the last bit you can get. I was contemplating having my talon dipped in the alkaline tank to pull everything off, but considering my paint is still in nice shape, I ditched the idea. The one thing about my talon is that the original owner had the ''Rusty Jones'' crap sprayed on the undercarriage so I'v got some extra weight there. At some point, like soon, I'm looking to be done with weight related items. Time to concentrate on the mechanicals and get back to the fun stuff. After the Extreme Talon caught fire, they had it dipped and recoated in white, and it was so damn clean and void of all the ''extra weight.''

Kind of curios to know what something like that acid dip might cost? Probably more than its worth at this point for me, but in the future it might be considered before it gets a paint job.

You know, I'm not sure. Good question though. However, not only the $, but the actual act of getting the car transported with nothing bolted to it at all is a huge task. I remember Extreme's talon rolling on a wood framed dolly. I'll try to find some old pics if I can.

Does it count that I've been thinking about my car? October through December I seem to pretty much turn off the car interest. Work gets real busy and other hobbies consume my free time. With that said I really am looking forward to getting back into the car. Just watched the 2012 Shootout video today and if anything will motivate me that usually does it! I have to put the engine bay harness back in the car that I gutted, then the actual engine harness needs to be cleaned up, I'll probably pull that when I put the other harness back in. Still haven't bought a new clutch, might not be able to afford it until tax season. Not looking good for slicks/wheels but I still may be able to borrow a set for a couple runs next season. Who knows maybe I'll find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow somewhere. Either way I'm going to make a strong effort to best my 11.541 from this year. I'm gunning for Dave, Phil, and Nate with the AWD effort! ;)

Well, Shane, I'd say thinking about it counts as much as walking past it which is what I do most days...LOL. Honestly, as strong as you ran at the end of the season, Dave's .51 & my .49 should really be a walk in the park for you to beat and I wouldn't be surprised if you were mixing it up with Nate and ARFWD in the .30's. If I get up and running that's where I'll shoot for first. Unfortunately, for some reasons, I'm probably gonna go bigger turbo sooner than later. As much as the 14b stuff holds my interest, I am interested in shaving seconds again, not tenths.

Thanks Phil, definately quite a bit left on the table with the 60' alone. But, as I always say, gotta get it down the track to find out. :thumb:
