I think I can still improve the 11.3 without nitrous a bit with a better engine package and more weight/ efficiency improvements maybe to about 11.1 area.

But yeah, the w/ nitrous...shit...I didn't make a single full pass. Once it's working correctly, I can't see why mid tens won't happen other than random mechanical failure. My 11.3 setup with 150shot should be a solid mid 10et with around 425whp. Luck and time/money constraints are all that stand in the way.

Wouldn't make sense to do all that and not run it without the nitrous a couple times :hellyeah:

I was trying to find a collection of the top timeslips, breaking them down a little bit. Here's a rundown of our top 4 times w/out nitrous.

Joe Bucci #1

60' : 1.626
330' : 4.577
1/8th : 6.994
1/8 mph :101.48
1000' : 9.102
1/4th : 10.876
1/4 mph : 123.83

Nate Crisman #2

60' : 1.473
330' : 4.564
1/8th : 7.165
1/8 mph : 94.79
1000' : 9.429
1/4th : 11.377
1/4 mph : 116.63

Phil Beers #3

60' : 1.481
330' : 4.66
1/8th : 7.279
1/8 mph : 94.59
1000' : 9.562
1/4th : 11.497
1/4 mph : 113.85

Dave Womer #4

60' : 1.637
330' : 4.755
1/8th : 7.349
1/8 mph : 93.15
1000' : 9.608
1/4th : 11.514
1/4 mph : 118.13

There's definately a little bit of advantage with the auto. I do find it strange though that the awd's still pick up more mph in the back half than Bucci's fwd. But, his back half is still .283 quicker than the quickest awd back half which was Dave's. Tough to overcome that fwd power and weight advantage the mph is rediculous.

Lessons to still be learned? Make more power and weigh less no matter what you're doing ;)

Yup, I know with my situation, there just isn't any more 60' starting line advantage to be had. The car leaves at max boost and right around maximum torque without even a hint of tire slip. Maybe I could take the shocks out all together and make the car solid bars for shocks so it puts 100% energy into the tires? hahaha

yup...Spend more money to make more power & Spend more money to buy lightweight parts. That's the only route left, I think Iv exhausted all the cheap/free tricks up my sleeve.

Interesting breakdown of times/mph.
Top 3 are on slicks, I was using drag radials which helps explain how I got a nice mph gain in the top end vs the slick/awd cars. I still killed it with power, tho. :thumb:

You definately killed it with power, weird how all those "big power mods" worked out for you. You definately were onto something, it would've been cool to see you run with slicks hitting 1.4x 60's. I think you would've been right there with Nate. Oh well, next time.

I was going to post Leon's timeslip for #5 but it's a bit of a mystery. He never posted the actual slip, the DSMTimes posting is clearly off as it shows a 7.849 1/8th which is way to slow though the 1/8th mph is listed as 95.01 which would be higher then all but Joe. Also back in 04 he made a post stating the 60' listed on the timeslip for that run was a 2.0? and he stated that lane had been giving false 60' times that night. But, on the times list it states a 1.61. Not sure what to make of it. Overall though it's the 11.642 @ 116.56 that puts him #5 with a pretty high mph, believe he was on drag radials. Maybe he can come in and clarify.

Using the above numbers this is the breakdown in seconds for time to cover the second 1/8:
Joe - 3.882
Dave - 4.165
Nate - 4.212
Me - 4.218

My summary is that obviously Joe covers the second 1/8 3 tenths quicker than the quickest AWD. But, for having the ''power,'' Dave has an insignificant elapsed time advantage when compared to mine and Nate's, which are almost identical..........Nate grabbing his .12 advantage in the 1/4 over me by the 330'.

It's cool to do all these comparos, but, as I've said before, this is about ET. I could care less about who makes more power or who has the highest trap speed....

But since we are on the subject, I've run almost 117, with a 116.85 trap on an 11.59 pass, just for highest 14b mph comparisons' sake.

If everyone wouldn't mind passing along the info, and if you remember, I'd be interested in knowing what the race weight of Nate, Dave and Phil's cars were. Only reason I'm curious is due to my plans with my 90 TSI! :D

This is why I'm setting up my fwd chassis. Less drivetrain loss on a small powered combo.

I just picked up the last of my engine combo last week. An extrude honed intake. Everything I've gathered is what Joe ran with the exception of an air/water intercooler, and the built 9.0:1 engine. My race weight on my car is a tad lighter than Joes is to.

I'm very excited to get this together. All the locals are calling me crazy for pulling off my 6262 to put on a stock turbo. To bad the car won't see the track again until the beginning of next year.

Nothing really to add. Just wanted to say that the guys chasing this are motivating as hell! Keep up the work, shits impressive!

T4 twin scroll with a dsm adapter flange :) . Top mount 14b would be the shit.

oh boy here we go again! :)
j/k I remember the last guy who said he was building a top mount 14b. :ohdamn:

Phil, I like your breakdown of back 1/8th mph. It makes me look good. Er, well it makes me look better. I agree that ET matters most, which is why slicks and auto trans work so well.

Brandon, my car weighed 2675 when I got the 14b record, 2850 with me in it. Right now the race weight is 2595. Actually right now the car weighs around 2350, but I should put the trans back in before I race it again. :)

Hi, my car was 2255, and total race weight was 2460.

Much appreciated, generally someone with an 800 hp ride would neither be interested, nor impressed.

thanks!

Forget the topmount...LOL....keep that lil 14 as close to the exhaust valves as possible!

Well, Dave it also shows that so far, in AWD form POWER can overcome the ''super'' lightweight cars. Is your highest MPH on the 11.51??

Ok, I'm game to talk more about trap speed....so let's list off the highest 1/4 14b mph, chime in everyone...

Again, mine is 116.85

Just for history's sake, Joe didn't have the 9.0:1 motor when he ran the no nitrous times, just a stock 7.8:1 bottom end with a freshened head and Crower 413's. But, the extrude honed intake is right :thumb: Joe claimed his race weight right around 2240lbs. too if you didn't remember 1980 w/out driver, as we've said, could have been lighter so do it!

MPH as known so far, don't have top mph's since it's mostly from the top 10 list.

Joe Bucci: 123.83
Dan Loncher 122.10 (DSMTimes list ran a 12.08 fwd)
Rob Harfman 119.41
David Womer 118.13
Phil Beers 116.85
Nate Crisman 116.63
Leon Reitman 116.56
Aaron Sadorf 116.33
Nick Carleton 115.93
Shane Webster 114.82

That's ten. Pretty good sample size. I think Aaron Sadorf ran a faster mph at one point, not sure though. So let the corrections begin LOL! But, it's still all about ET!

Thanks for the info. Glad to see this thread still going. Hope to see what I can do with the 14b. Probably won't plan on running until the winter to get a good plan together and not have to rush.

Yup I knew that. I don't have a good stock engine and not gonna change it out. I am currently running the 413 cams now with my 6262 with the current setup. As soon as I'm ready the jmf comes off and the extrude goes on along with the 14b. As of now I'm dialing the suspension in with a bigger setup.

My car as it sits weighed 1976. I still need to ditch the 17" wheel on the back for skinnies. Not much more weight to take out of the car though. Maybe a Lexan front windshield. I'll weigh the car again when I swap in the 14b. I'm half tempted to skip out on shooting for that local single digit time slip so I can get to crackin at the 14b record.

I've gone 114.88 ;)

Especially coming from the topic starter, i'm starting to think i have misunderstood the whole point of this thread. Was this thread started for record chasing or having some fun with small turbo's? :) ../signs out

From Phil's first post when starting the thread:

Guys/Gals? Just wanted to start up new thread for an OPEN 14b Drag Race Discussion. The "history" thread seems to be heading in this direction, and as much as I enjoy talking 14b, I meant for that thread to be DSM-wide rather than focus on one bracket. So, let's do it! Anything 14b: history, specs, stats, set-ups, people, timeslips, ET, MPH, suspension set-ups, and on and on....

Just for comparison, my highest MPH was 113.63 on a mostly full weight FWD street car. My DSM will be going through a transformation this winter from a street/autox/drag car to a 14b drag car only. I will be stripping out several hundred pounds of unneeded weight and moving to a true slick. Expect to see that MPH go up and the ET to drop!

I am also going to see about making it to the shootout with my DSM nest year for the DST (or what ever it is called next year) class. If that is the case I will probably be moving to a 68 hta or e316g at a minimum.

On a side note....I'm putting my yellow 1g back together.
Speaking of your yellow 1g, how many passes can you get with your 1 gallon fuel cell? Do you have to top it off after each pass or can you get several passes out of it before refilling? I am trying to decide on a fuel cell and I will be installing mine up front too so it will have to be very small.
