That might make sence with 200F intake temps. Honestly, i really didn't think that would become as much of a problem until much higher boost, more than 15.5 psi but i guess it does flow pretty decent at that boost level. If that is really the case, that is definetly a WOW lesson right there.

Just thinking about all this knock makes me grinch, almost like scratching nails on a bath tub. Worried about the engine. I haven't done a compression/leak down test in the last 100 miles, so that's going to be the next thing now. Probably will also send the next oil change for analysis to see what kind of damage i might have created. Thanks for the feedback guys!

Well here's an update to get things shaking! I hit 11's!

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/dra...-14b-11-second-car-finally.html#post153076013

I'll add some thoughts in the morning, time for bed :rocks:

EDIT: Adding in some thoughts now that I'm up before work.

I could not get a log of any of my runs tonight. I've got to figure out a way to hold the computer as it loses connection when I launch every time. I tried on 3 of the 4 runs.

Prior to tonight I had a pretty good baseline tune of 11.2-11.4:1 AFR's, peak timing of 18*, and 20 psi from the turbo.

I pulled just under 1% of fuel out after the 2nd run which took me from 113.57 to 114.2. Might have made a slight difference but temps were starting to cool off too. From the first run I'm guessing it was at or just over 80* out, the last run was at 72* ambient. From the 3rd to 4th run I let the car cool more completely and turned up the boost controller. I did a pull on the way home and I managed to hit 21 psi which was my goal. So the last pass was at 21 psi, I did glance over at the gauge at the top of 4th and saw 17psi.

So the HKS 264/272 cams obviously helped make a little more power, but those along with lower compression, allows the boost to drop off. Last year the boost gauge pegged at 21 psi and never fell off.

I have no reason to believe the aluminum driveshaft did anything but help, every run was smooth and I didn't spit any more u-joints.

I aired the tire pressure down to 24 front and 22 rear, although my 60 fts weren't good, on that 2nd pass before the track started getting really bad I did cut a 1.66 which is only bested by one 1.65 I managed last year. Last year the lowest I went on tire pressure was 25 psi on all 4.

Last thought, unless I get invited to a private track rental, an actual racing event, or get my hands on a set of slicks I think I'm done for 2012. This was the goal and I've got to look at things and decide on what the next goal is going to be. Obviously I'd like to crack the top 5 awd times with nitrous which requires a 11.7? or better I believe. I'm just tired of going and racing on terribly prepped tracks.

I'll just leave this here as well:

1. Joe Bucci 10.876 @ 123.83 FWD
2. Nate Crisman 11.377 @ 116.63 AWD
3. Phil Beers 11.497 @ 113.85 AWD
4. David Womer 11.514 @ 118.13 AWD
5. Leon Reitman 11.642 @ 116.56 AWD
6. Nick Carleton 11.767 @ 115.93 AWD
7. Aaron Sadorf 11.76 @ 113.37 FWD
8. Lucas English [email protected] - I know he ran 11.7 and blew up his 14b AWD
9. Shane Webster 11.903 @ 114.82 AWD
10. Rob Harfman 11.938 @ 119.41 FWD

Top 5 AWD no nitrous guys still looks like this:
1. Nate Crisman 11.377 @ 116.63
2.Phil Beers 11.497 @ 113.85
3. David Womer 11.514 @ 118.13
4. Leon Reiman 11.642 @ 116.56
5. Nick Carleton 11.767 @ 115.93 (Don't know if English topped that one or not)

Congratulations Shane, you have certantly earned it! Being in the top ten must feel amazing :) especially after all that hard work you posted in the above link.

Personally, i would be happy with a mid 12 second pass at a decent mph. Not sure i can compete with all you guys being in a full weight car.

Congrats again. And didnt you run at milan? I always thought their track was pretty decent. I havent been there in a while either though. But then again compared to lapeer every track is pretty nice LOL.

I knew i should have tried to make it down there yesterday :p

Don't get me wrong, Milan is a great track. But, on T&T nights you've got a hundred street tire guys doing burnouts and leaving their particles all over the place. Then the track guys sweep said particles right into the area the smart street tires guys drive around the water box. Add to the fact that they prep the track before the T&T starts and then maybe spray vht once in the launch area after that. The prep goes away pretty quick. But, it's not Milan, most tracks do the same thing on T&T nights, unless some really quick stuff starts showing up.

Wish you would've made it though! Didn't see any other dsms there.

Congrats!

NED is the same up here. The first run of the night is good, every pass after that generally sucks. No prep after what they do before they open, and a dozen diesel trucks with paddle tires from Maine tearing up any rubber that was there. :D It took years of complaining to get them to stop spraying the water all the way to the jersey barrier too so AWDs can go around it. The do open rentals every Wednesday though, 30 car maximum and great track conditions, for 105 bucks. I'd rather do one of those per month than 4 street nights at 20-25 bucks each. Of course I end up doing 4 rentals per month like an asshole. Sounds like this is what you need though, every track should offer something like that.

i cut a 1.57 60' with my 14b last night pretty happy bout that

is there a top 10 14b with nos?

If you look in the previous posts you'll see the fastest time is 10.8

im not really chasin any records i was just wonderin i threw nos on my 14b an love it been runnin strong bout a year now best i got out it was 11.7

To me, once you add nitrous the turbo is more of a restriction then a power adder. Which is why I've never had too much respect for any record w/nitrous. But, it obviously has it's place and I have nothing against those who use it! The only thing we know for sure is Joe Bucci holds the "14b w/nitrous" record with the 10.61, no one has ever claimed to have gone quicker.

ktime, what kind of tires are you using, 1.57 is a nice 60 ft!

This is funny LOL.. running a large turbo somehow justifies the use of nitrous but not with a small turbo?? What if someone is running a small shot of nos (and yes, i reserve the right to call it NAWS as i had the system way before the 1st FnF came out!) as a detonation prevention because that person is not using a conventional huge ass FMIC.. that just makes it somehow wrong LOL.. And even than, don't use it cause you shouln't.. if it was that easy everybody and their mother would be doing it, there is a reason they don't LOL. Cause it is not that easy or inexpesive at the end of the day, it's just a different way of doing the same thing. Makes it more challanging than anything, imo. Just like small turbo cars doing it a lot more differently/efficiently than a lot of other larger turbo cars..

Hit a nerve eh? I guess I didn't explain my opinion clear enough. I don't care about records with.nitrous seperated by a turbo designation specifically in my last post Im referring to the 14b. I have no issues with using nitrous, it has it's place and if it's a "record" someone else cares about with the 14b that's fine. Alot of people think chasing any "turbo designation" record is dumb. It's all about what is important to you.

My last post wasn't directed at you, btw :) It is just a general misconception that it's ok to gut your beautifull 1G and 2G cars and install big front mounts but god knows you would spray some nitrous and now you are entering the forbidden/no respect turf.

Personally, i don't care about any 14b or 14b w/nitrous records, all i care about is sqweezing a 110% out of my car with the, whatever, mods it has on it that are appropriate for the goals. With that being said, i did ponder the idea of spraying a 200 shot direct port, then just thought about running a wet shot instead. Now, i'm leaning more towards running a small dry shot to compensate for the hotpipe and the extra weight of a dd car. If i'm not getting respect for using nitrous than so be it

I don't think anyone here was speaking generally about lack of respect on a DSM with nitrous, rather specifically about the point of a turbo specific record when nitrous is used.

Im kind of with Sbstar on the nitrous with small frame records. Im more impressed by the 14b no nos record personally. The big turbo guys get more leniency because they need it to get up on the stall. Most of them dont use the spray for the whole 1320, so its different imo.

But someone could build a nitrous motor, spray some ridiculous shot and slap a t25 on it. Its not really a t25 record then is it? But yea who cares, its all relative.

Exactly! A fast car is a fast car and I'll respect it no matter what is under the hood! But when it comes to records I look at it a little differently. Case in point the T-25 w/nitrous record is 10.69, with the turbo at stock boost, it was a nitrous car, the T-25 was pretty much along for the ride. Even the owner/driver stated he didn't like using the word "record" with the car, just wanted respect for what it was, a simplified setup running 10's!

Just cruising through old threads. For the record, I was a total Newb back then, but thankfully I've learned alot. I just found post 17 funny. That was what 7+ years ago. Finally did it! But, I think I'll stick with the 14b for while.

slicks LOL

Truth! I still have yet to do a BLT after I got the motor back together. Probably should do that. But, once you have the major ones fixed life gets much easier.

Yep and im having a major one LOL. I'm having a serious issue with the 1g bov. Cant get it to stop leaking. Its been properly crushed, leaks at wot.
