This was to be my weekend to get some shakedowns done with with my Talon. It is finally together now. But hitting 11's with my 14b is just going to have to wait. My unborn daughter has decided she is going to make her debut early. Will be flying to Tokyo this weekend. But when I come back I'll be sure to post when I will be heading out to the track. Will be in June sometime.

Catch you guys later,
Jose

Best of luck Jose!

just starting to come back to the game guys and noticed this thread. back in '04 i think it was I had my '95 AWD talon on 14b power. I put in a new RPS 6 puck and Alum flywheel the night before the shootout. car went 12.677@106mph 23psi super side mount on VP110. it was a helluva car back then haha. setup was
ported 14b
super side mount
crushed 1g bov
stock motor cover to pan
tuned with an SAFC
23psi on a AVCR
stripped interior
stock trans

ended up going with a 50 trim GCC/VPC dejon front mount setup and 660's, couldn't get the car lean enough with 1400egt's. only got it down into the 12.2 range at 115-118. the 14b was a much more fun setup haha. car would break all four loose into 2nd on race fuel. it just spooled so damn fast.

So, today I took a long lunch and went to Granite State Dyno in Kingston NH.

The van pulled 265hp off the street
Then 292hp with open exhaust
Lastly 303hp changing pump gas with 110 octane race fuel

I probably could have gotten another 10 hp from more tuning, but I had to get back to the office.

Got cha.... Let er eat I think they call that...LOL I forgot how high they will spike early and then fall off late. Good luck with the car, or van... or whatever it is.LOL It should be a lot of fun at the track.:)

OK, guys, what is going on here (or should I say, NOT going on ;))? We had more activity in this thread in off season, than we have now, that season has started!

I made some test and tune passes at our Import even, no clean passes, but I learned a few valuable lessons:

- 5 gallons of fuel is not enough (van experiences fuel starvation in 1st and 2nd gears).
- 7 gallons is enough (in the past I only raced on half a tank (8-9 gallons)
- Emptying this tank is a PITA (similar to 2G), from now on, I will stick to pump gas.
- Despite sputtering off the line and then in first two gears, I still ran 107 MPH, which is a record for the van (previous best was 12.4 at 106).

I will try to take out for one more night of 14b action, but then, I will put in a 16g... This is already an unlikely vehicle to be fast, I do not need to compound it by using a 14b :)

Chad took some awesome videos of me racing (too bad I didn't give him a clean pass to capture :( )

First two runs had fuel starvation in 1st and 2nd gears. On third run, fuel problem went away (I have added 2 more gallons of race fuel), but I missed 2-3 and 3-4...

^^Nice video!!

I finally started to break in my full street trim 14b, so far so good. Feels pretty nice and sounds amazing compared to before the build. Just put 10 miles on it so far and 15 dollars in the gas tank, nailed the idle and cold start (at least at these temps LOL), getting close to getting done with part throttle up to 10 psi. Here is a pick before i put the front bumper and hood back on it today..

Im going to put the yellow car together to run this fall, but it's likely going to be a 16g anyway.:toobad:

Nice vid. That's gotta feel good launching hard and running solid times in a 4door family box! Dammm you got me thinking of picking up one and swapping all the parts off my Talon. :hmmm:

didnt want to go thru every post, but what is the record for the fastest 14b as of today ?

The current record is the same as it was in 2004

#1 Joseph Bucci (with NOS)
10.610 @ 131.79
6.897 @ 105.01
1.627

10.876 @ 123.83 14b (No NOS)

Me, Phil, & Pneumo bumped the #2, #3, and #4 times up to 11.37, 11.49, 11.51 in the last year or so but are still quite a ways off from anything record breaking. I feel my #2 time is pretty much within a tenth or so of maximum potential of the setup (awd/auto) and I don't feel like the car had a realistic possibility of getting anywhere near 10.876 for the no-nitrous record. With spray...yes, I "should" have been able to topple Bucci, but it just wasn't in the cards due to errors on my end. I have a feeling that both records may go unbroken for as long as anyone cares to remember them. IMHO none of the #2-4 cars even have/had the potential to beat the record as they were run.

Not that I was ever gonna touch any 14b records but I had to remove the turbo last week in order to pound out the stubborn alternator pivot bolt so I decided what better time to drop in my brand new 20g. I'm bummed for sure. I really wanted to see what my 14b could do but given my lack of time it just made sense to go with the 20g right now.

^^I don't think i can touch any records as well, however, i just had 3 stailess steel arp's snap on me inside the turbo housing, paid $125 to machine shop to get them out then purchased new OEM turbo bolts for another $40. It was so tempting to be thinking about a good time to spend that money on a used evo3 16g but i decided to finish what i started, instead. I just know i would've been regretting it later and i still want to get an evo3 16g, just not yet :ohdamn:

Update: still a little less than 50 miles into a break in, she is boosting to 20+psi now on super low timing and wastegate duty cycles. I was afraid that the motor might be chocking out the turbo but there is still a lot left on it in the timing so i guess will just have to see as we go along :D

I finally got around to dropping in my GSC S1s, and I swapped my pro-kit springs out for a set of sportlines a couple months ago, I'm torn between taking the car back to the track on the 14b setup to see what it can do and swapping the HTA68 on. Either way, I plan to convert back to AWD after I hit the track one more time.

I'm starting to miss this discussion! Where did everyone go? I guess I can probably answer that question myself, but it's been sad to see a lack of 14b anything lately. With the shootout looming and plans being made I'm starting to get that ol itch to make something happen with mine. I've been offerred a 2g head to throw on but I don't have an intake mani yet, plus the shortblock is old and down on compression anyways. But, I still might throw it together to at least take it to the shootout instead of the Vibe. I might even consider making some passes if everything gets sorted out. But, that's the usual me getting ahead of myself, more then likely it won't see the outside of the storage unit except for a bath sometime soon.

I have come to a realization that a fast van is enough of an oddity and I really not need to handicap myself even farther by running a 14b. So I swapped in a 16g. So far, my best pass was 12.08 @113 on pump
gas.

One extra bonus, I had a serious fitment issue with my 14b/16g j-pipe. Like Colt/Mirage, the Summit has tight clearance for that pipe (only 1/16" or so), under engine braking, it was actually touching the radiator!

Well, with 16g, that clearance is around 1/4"!!! So apparently, 16g has better clearance than a 14b in this regard! I whish I knew this sooner!
