I've gone through 2 OEM PCV (read boost leak) valves in 1500 miles since the car came off jack stands December 05. I'm tired of buying and replacing them even though they are not that expensive. I was going to pull the nipple out of the intake and put a 1/8 BSPT plug in that location and use the nipple from the intake and replace the PCV valve, however, the nipple is a press-in fit so that's out of the question. I just capped off the nipple and used the PCV valve as my nipple to "T" into the vent line going to the intake before a G-2 gas filter (catch can).

My question is why do I have to hog out the PCV valve internals? There shouldn't be a differential pressure type of thing going on, therefore the PCV valve should remain open, shouldn't it?

Below is a half-a$$ drawing of what I propose and if someone can give me a legitimate reason why it should be hogged out, I'll just order a nipple for it.

so i read every peckin article about this... but only one guy even mentions what he uses to filter out the vapor particles.. OLDMAN says he uses a 5 micron filter.... i'm wondering if anyone knows where to find these at?.. i understand most people are using the husky coalescing filters.. but i don't wannna have to buy the whole thing to just get the filter??? any ideas pls?

not sure what a vaccuum pump is. is it anything like the old school muscle car way of pcv where you hook it up to your exhaust pipe?
my uncle's barracuda has a one way valve welded onto his exhaust pipe in a y type joint and this causes natural vacuum when the car runs. like a natural draft. they sell kits of these for cars at local high performance stores for like $40. i was thinking of doing this now during my build, but i can't find anyone that has done it.
i had met one other dsmer in edmonton who had done this and told me about it. anyone else?

First of all, the Husky and similar filters aren't really coalescing filters (wrong material and wrong direction of flow). To get really good results with a catch can, you need a specific direction of flow and a filter element capable of removing aerosols and particles around 1 micron or even lower. The hard part is getting this in something that resists engine heat and chemicals, and has a low pressure drop and good flow.

More info on what I've discovered and have been working on over the last several months can be found here.

What about these They are rated to 1000 psi.

Those crank vents should stop your PCV from taking a dump from the boost pressure if they work like advertised.

Personallly I think that 1000psi is a bit overkill since I have yet to see one of our motors making over 100psi of boost pressure. The USplastics valve rated at 150psi is more than capable of keeping the boost in check. I would however like to see/learn how the small one helps on the crankcase vent. I was always under the assumption that this had to flow both ways. I didn't think it was possible to use a check valve there, let alone have it be helpful. Can anyone help explain?
