question pcv hookup....

The guy that had the car before me had a catchcan hooked up. He sold the catchcan before me buying the car and now the current hookup is as shown in the picture. The blue hose is open at the end to breath in and out. As you can see circled in the pic, both the pcv and side port are connected with the tee to the open blue hose.
Does this need to be addressed and in what way?

On a daily driven car that is not how I would like to have it setup. I would rather see just the side port go to that blue hose with at least a breather filter on the end of it. Then I would hook the backside with the pcv valve back into the intake manifold like stock with the addition of an upgraded check valve inline like this one. 3/8" Kynar® Standard Check Valves | U.S. Plastic Corp.

If I hook the pcv valve up to the intake and the other port open, is that going to vent good enough? I had a problem when I first got the car, there still was freezing cold temps and snow and I had ice blocking the open blue hose. I didn't realize the hookup but I had some much pressue built up, I was crop dusting through the exhaust....

That should work just fine. Of course any vent line is going to be better than a vent line that is plugged with ice.
