Starved for fuel??

Just got this car and I have alot of work to do. My key issue is this when I come up to a stop light after driving for say 10 minutes or more as soon as the engine idles down the car shutters and tries to die like its not getting any fuel. Im thinking its the fuel pump but I am not sure. It has died twice on me when it does the electronics stay on but I have to turn the key completely off an then it starts up again. Any thoughts? thank you

could be a bad alternator (sp?) my gsx did the same thing because the alt belt would slip and battery would lose voltage and car would sputter. fuel pump would be the other way i would lean too. or the wiring going to the fuel pump if its been rewired?

I haven't had a chance yet to dig into it to see about the fuel pump. I was curious does a 2nd gen dsm have an idle control motor? that could be another possibility if it does an the motor is going bad.

Would recommend doing an base timing and idle speed adjustment service for starters. With the proper jumpers applied in the engine compartment and under the dash, the motor will operate at 0 advance so you can adjust base timing and the idle air control motor (IAC) will go to it's home position so you can properly set the idle speed without interfereence from the IAC control. If this procedure is not done correctly, your timing advance and IAC calibration could be off.

Have you check all your vac lines? Could have boost leaks. A friend of mine had a similar issue earlier this summer, car would be fine for awhile then shut off when coming to a stop. Went over all vac lines, replaced them all.TGave it a tune up, plugs, wires, fuel pump etc...that fixed his issue with car shutting off. Just a thought. Good luck.
