canada,
All "my car won't start" discussion threads are merged HERE. We've basically made it easier for those who insist upon not searching by grouping together all threads from those with similar issues so you can just scroll through and see some possible solutions. To search for info within this thread, use the "Search This Thread" feature in the black bar about 3" above what you're reading right now.

Could be anything from a loose battery terminal to internal engine damage, and literally everything in between which may involve the electrical, fuel, and ignition system...possibly even something that you screwed up while working on the car yourself. While it's unlikely we're going to diagnose and solve your problem over the internet, feel free to discuss any possible solutions.

I live in Canada and right now its not very warm out, about -30c
my car does not have a block heater too keep it warm.

I tryed to start my car this morning and it wouldent start, ive had this problem before but this time, the car doesnt crank at all it just makes a sound that sounds like an electric drill.

So for the last few days I have been trying to figure out why my car won't start. I've read quite a few no start threads but it hasn't helped me (or I'm just to dumb)

I recently installed some new parts and prior to that the car started every time with no problem. I installed an FP race manifold, FP Green XL, PR recirculated o2 housing w/ Tial MVS waste gate. I also replaced my Tial Q BOV with a Tial QR BOV.

As of right now it just cranks and cranks. It is getting spark in all 4 cylinders as well as fuel. Compression is good and I have no blown fuses. I've traced almost every wire as well as use a multimeter on some. The car had been sitting for about 3 months since the last time it ran but before I tried to start it I replaced the spark plugs which were gapped at .028 as well as putting in new gas.

The car is a 99 GSX but it has a 6 bolt swap and one thing that has me confused is the firing order. My dumb ass didn't write down the order of the cables before I pulled them.

In the picture below you can see a vacuum line going from a the intake manifold to my BOV. The line is "T'd" and goes to some sort of sensor.

I was told that this is not best practice so I removed the T and gave the BOV and the sensor its own independent line. Here is a pic of a sensor.

I don't know if that stuff is relevant to my problems but I figured that it couldn't hurt to ask.

check your cts wires mine broke when doing my turbo upgrade

What exactly is a cts and where is it located?

is that a map sensor? doesnt look like a mdp sensor.

A buddy who has been helping me work on my car thought that it might be a map sensor as well. The car has a stock 2g MAF though; is there any reason to have both? Perhaps the previous owner was simply planning on switching to SD?

Coolant temp sensor, on the thermostat housing.

A lot of people run a MAP sensor so they can log boost in dsmlink, it doesn't have to be for SD

Okay thanks, I'll check that in the morning.

the fuel pump is good it primes when i turn the car on. i checked my camshaft sensor and they was a whole bunch of looked like lotion on it and some rocks. cleaned that off and after a couple cranks it started so hopefully my problem is fixed.

I would say check the wiring. my gs/turbo had the SAME EXACT problem so i got it towed down to PSIproformance in lansdale they were able to find the messed up wireing and replace it. Now it runs great!!! GOOD LUCK. this same problem drove me insane....

Found the hole! No idea how I missed this.. But it's on the front of the block.:ohdamn:

"There's your problem!"

Time for a new short block :hellyeah: I'm gonna salvage what I Can from the head, but I doubt anything is gonna be good in the bottom end.

I'll be pulling the engine Saturday and Sunday. Go check out my build thread, as that will be where I post the pictures.

I went to take out my injectors since I thought that's where my leak was, everything is back into place tubes, plugs all double checked. I went to start it and it will turn over, start for less than a second and die.. such as if I'm not getting fuel. After taking out my injectors am I suppose to "prime" the car? I did read about it on the forums on how to take them off, and put it back on but perhaps this was skipped. Any input would be greatly appreciated. It's a 97 GSX stock injectors

Took my whole fuel rail and injectors off today. I had to crank it for a second or two more than usual to get the fuel flowing again, but it started right up after that. Did you crank it more than once?

If you have link, you can activate the fuel pump and it will prime the system.

It does take a couple of cranks to get the pressure back. I would double check your injector seals(o-rings) and make sure they didn't get tore up.

Ill check tomorrow in the daylight, I cranked it quiet a few times. More than likely its not seated right or something.. Just hoping I didn't mess anything up and it's a quick fix. I suppose if they weren't seated right I would see fuel by the injectors right?

Also, this was my first time and I was having trouble removing the fuel rail.. I tried to remove the AFPR and gave it a tug.. As well as the cap on the opposite side.Obviously as you would know it come off but maybe I pulled something loose?

Just went outside to see if fuel was leaking out.. And there was none.. It turned over and started for a little bit longer about 2 seconds then died again as it usually does. Perhaps I'm missing a plug somewhere and I'm to tired to see it? Unless what I mentioned about has something to do with it. Is there a way to check if I'm getting fuel to the car?

Does it smell like your getting fuel? I would check the connection to eatch injector and make sure everything nice and tight.
