canada,
All "my car won't start" discussion threads are merged HERE. We've basically made it easier for those who insist upon not searching by grouping together all threads from those with similar issues so you can just scroll through and see some possible solutions. To search for info within this thread, use the "Search This Thread" feature in the black bar about 3" above what you're reading right now.

Could be anything from a loose battery terminal to internal engine damage, and literally everything in between which may involve the electrical, fuel, and ignition system...possibly even something that you screwed up while working on the car yourself. While it's unlikely we're going to diagnose and solve your problem over the internet, feel free to discuss any possible solutions.

I live in Canada and right now its not very warm out, about -30c
my car does not have a block heater too keep it warm.

I tryed to start my car this morning and it wouldent start, ive had this problem before but this time, the car doesnt crank at all it just makes a sound that sounds like an electric drill.

Whats wrong.

Thanks

well i tried looking on the forum and found nothing. so what happend was i put 1g cams in my 2gb and had to switch my cas to a 1g and wire it in. i have it all together and now it will do nothing . the car started fine before this and had no problem. im sure i did not wire in the cas wrong i went off of the RRE site. and i also put in a new head gasket got rid of the charcoal can and got a egr block off plate. i also tried jump starting it and push starting and nothing. i have compretion in all 4. so let me know thanks.

If you have a new battery and starter you shouldn't need to jump it I had a similar issue with my 1990 eclipse and came to find out I had a bad ecu and my timing also jumped so I would suggest check your timing if your getting fuel and spark

If the car is not turning over (cranking), then I would double check if your wire on the starter is still connected (the one that sends the signal to the starter). I doubt that sitting a week (if it was running a week earlier) would have had the ECU go bad/jump timing.

If the car was running before, then just jump a cable from the battery to the starter and it will crank, leave the ignition ON and make sure it stays on Neutral, once you do the jump to the starter, it will run,,,,..

You might have the starter wire disconnected.

Just curious, you stated you can hear the fuel pump ON when there is no cranking signal?,,,,,, MMMmnnn,, the fuel pump will not be able till the ecu sees cranking signal, if the car doesn't crank at all, then the fuel pump will not be turned ON.

are you sure you have the cas plugged to the right plug?, the AC and cam sensor plug are the same, check you have all on the right connector.

Have you check for fuel, spark, verify the timing is on spot?, have you see if the cooling temperature sensor is hooked up.

Make a walk through all the connectors and check every single one to see if they all are connected right.

things you want to check. there are two switches on the clutch pedal disconnect the lower one. thi is if your car is manual trans. plase the gear lever in neutral and attempt to start the car. if this did not work. chance are the starter relay is defective. the starter relayis above the fuse box on the left side, driver side. good luck.

Put car in neutral.
Locate starter
Get a big wire and place one end on battery terminal on starter, usually biggest lead oncstart and comes straight from battery
Place other end of wire to the small little switch on starter.
PLEASE MAKE SURE IGNItion IS TO RUN POSITION.
once the wire bridges those two contact points, the starter should kick out and spin, thus turning your engine over.
If you bridge gap from b+ to ignition switch and the starter only clicks or does nothing. Solenoid is most likely bad

Please take precautions when doing this. Leaves e brake on and leave key to RUN.

Let us know how it goes.

check your fuses then check for spark if you have to just pull a wire and have a friend try to start and see if it jumps to metal.

Have you done the basics?
Check fuses?
Boken/frayed wires by the starter?
Starter relay (If equiped)

All the work you did, you may have pulled a wire loose.

sounds to me like you should have bought the harness BRANDON!! hahahah ROFL im of wensday it should be fairly warm we will get her goin alright!!! :hellyeah:

Every cold morning when i try to start up my car it tries to start up then dies. Then when i turn the key again it will either start running the 2nd or 3rd time. Unsure what the problem is.

You should be thinking of the coolant temp sensor. Test it. Make sure one of the wires running to the sensor has +5V with key on.

Happy holidays.

Ok new problem! :D

Picked up a crispy ecu, popped it in and the car started right up.:hellyeah:

doesn't hold idle for that long, and stumbles in the low RPMs when given gas.

Next step is to check the ISC, and maybe replace the o2 sensor?

Check your coolant level, if the coolant is low the coolant temp sensor can send false readings to the ECU causing a hard start. If you don't know how old the radiator cap is you might want to replace it. Try to get a scan tool so you can read codes. If the computer doesn't know its cold, it wont add the right amount of fuel.

Hey guys thanks for the feedback, I installed the starter about 6 months ago with no issues. My driveway is at a slant so idk...it's hard to accept that a starter would just suddenly go bad with no signs of wear

its either the switch on the clutch pedal or a starter relay or bad wire

I checked that n when I don't press the pedal I don't hear the fuel pump or whatever whirring sound coming on. When I press the pedal down, I hear it until I stop cranking...or rather attempting.

Great! I'll check it tomorrow morning.
