Hey guys like the title says I have crower 272's and after pulling off the freeway the car will ocassionally stall.. the idle is set to 1000rpm. not sure if this has to do with it but wideband reads around 17.0 at idle.. but smells richer than hell. any ideas?

btw the mod list is up to date.

Check your injector seals to see if they are spitting out a bit of fuel, that might be causing the smell. Do you have any exhaust leaks before the WB o2?

injectors are dry as bone.. i know i have a small leak in the flex, but that is after the wideband.. could this lean reading be causing my random stalling?

As long as the leak is after the WB, it shouldn't make a difference in the reading. I read a similar thread a while ago, but cant remember the cause... Search the internet, you might find something.

You have something to log with?

I have an SAFC, when I had the reading of 17 at idle I adjusted the idle point up to 30% just to see if it would change.. and nothing happened.. then i took it all the way to 50% just to see and still no change.. btw i didnt keep it at 50 i was just expirementing. not sure whats going on

You still need a logger so that you can actually see what the engine is doing. Theres a site where you can download one for free(cant remember), you just have to buy the cable to plug into a laptop.

Maybe someone else can help you out with the name of the logger im talking about, i thought it started with a "Z"?

No the car has a straight 3 inch. exhaust.. but im still confused why it stalls randomly sometimes? and with the SAFC i should be able to get the idle around 14.7 but regardless it sticks to 17+

Any suggestions? It's not to fun driving around and having it stall out.. Any help would be great

I would say to possibly invest in adjustable cam gears with those 272's the loping sound that you hear when at idle is not always a good thing because that means your exhaust and intake valves are open at the same time ... so with the adjustable cam gears if you can get it close to sounding like stock cams while using the 272's is a good thing

I think the logger Tyson was talking about may have been evoscan ? Either way you should get a cord to log so you can see what's going on instead of guessing like we are now. By posting the log we can look for a value that is reading out of the ordinary and narrow down the problem. Looking a your boost gauge how much vacuum are you pulling at idle ?

Yep! Thats the one. I don't know why I was thinking it started with a Z :coy: :D.

This is good advise.

Ok I will eventually get a logger when I can.. But the car on start up runs about 9 inches of vacuum and once it's warmed up it holds around 13 or so.

17:1 may be lean enough to stall out after decel, when did you last calibrate your wideband? Also, with a '99, you have absolutely no excuse not to have EvoScan and tune via ECUFlash.

Yeah, I'd love to add more but you'd need a logger. Go buy EvoScan and the cheap VAG COM cable right now (unless you can afford the Openport 2.0 Cable, then buy that and EvoScan).

Absit: where can I find either one of those cables?

Tyeler: the bov is not recirculated, but I have a gm maf on the blow-thru style pipe.

Cam overlap can cause funny wideband readings, and throw off the normal closed loop idle fuel trimming. Sometimes with large cams you have to lock the idle in open loop. In your case, something is up if you only have 9-13 inches of vacuum. I have the same cams, and pull 18 inches at 1000 rpm idle.

The Maf-T is never perfect. It'll always need a retune for different humidity's.
I would do a vacuum leak test and BLT. Throttle Body seals, FPR line, check all of that.

Everything has just been recently installed.. And it was all done properly and new gaskets were used... I will check codes this weekend because I do have a CEL on, but it has always been on due to the many modifications.
