272's with no adjustable cam gears

Well, I am done telling my buddy how adjustable cam gears have helped with my Kelford 272's...but he is getting hks 272 regrinds and I think he should just stay with stock cam gears and save himself some money. I have seen good results, its not like hes going to try and squeeze every drop of hp out of his motor. He just wants a decent track car. What do you guys thinks....Will stock cam gears suffice? Hes still on a Small 16g btw, stock redline.

Stock gears are fine.

Stock gears will work.. But the amount of gains you can get are almost worth more than the cams if you add adjustable cam gears. I just got my Fidanzas in the mail. I am going to do a 3rd gear pull tonight. Post the log up and install them and do another 3rd gear pull and see what happens.

cam gears are good to have... due to the varables that happen with a rebuild, such as decking the block and milling the head, when this is done the center line of the cams to crank is changed, and will throw off cam timing.. adjustable cam gears will be able to correct for this.

Well, i understand that..I ran hks cams before my swap with stock cam gears and it seemed fine, just lopey idle and like -13 vacuum, and I know for sure my head and block were decked/milled. They ran with no problems, they were probably just off timing...Ill ask him if anythnig was done to his head or block.
