adjustable cam gears

does any one know the proper procedure of adjustable cam gears to work properly? right now my intake manifold is push air out when i try to start the engine. these cams are slightly bigger then the stock i believe. they are OBX BILLET CAM GEARS SPROCKETS 95-99 ECLIPSE 420a 2.0L. when i put the old cams back the engine starts up. i think i need to retard the gears to get them to work right but before i do that wanted to get some feed back. the set up also has stage 1 cams.

What do you mean by "my intake manifold is push air out when i try to start the engine?" Do you mean a 'backfire' not to be mistaken for 'afterfire'? If you're backfiring then no cam gear set in the world is going to fix that problem. Not even sure if timing being set 180* out would cause that but a lean burning condition will definitely cause that. Put the cam gears at zero, get the car to run PROPERLY, then start adjusting while keeping in mind that everything you do will change valve overlap, manifold vacuum, EGT, and power output.

adjusting the came gears is best done on a dyno. you will have no idea what effects are created by changing the timing unless you can be there to measure it.
