Fidanza Adjustable Cam Gears

Anyone have issue with Fidanza adjustable cam gears? I have my hks 272 regrinds, and I don't want to spend alot on cams gears oviously who would. But if there not really recommended upon, what ones at a good price would you recommend? Also on note from extremepsi site it says - Intake Cam Gear for 95-96 models require modification for Cam Angle Sensor. Will I have to do anything I have 95 tsi?

I have those cam gears and have no issues with them. Just put some thread lock on the bolt and torque them on there.

The 95-96 have the cam sensor on the intake gear, so make sure the cam gears come with a place to install the trigger plate. IIRC the fidanza gears are the only ones that can work with the 95-97

Yup- switch to a 1990-1994 or 1997-1999 cam angle sensor which does not read from the back of the gear.

You'll also need to compensate for whatever timing adjustment you make to the intake cam gear through a program like ECMLink or it will screw with your base timing. Example- retarding the cam gear 2* will also change your base timing by 2*.

Fidanza gears come predrilled for 95-96 cas. Ask Paul(99gst_racer) to be 100% sure

how is your idle, is it heavy or smooth with he cam and the cam gears

While I've heard mixed reviews about the Fidanza Cam Gears the one word of advice that always holds true is do not go cheap or you'll be replacing it again down the line.. and anything else it touches. There are plenty gears more reputable for similar pricing.

I think I have Fidanza cam gears. The only problem I've had with mine is that the guy I bought them from must have over-torqued the bolts. So I had 3 break off when I tried to adjust mine. All I had to do was get new bolts and I was good. They've held up great otherwise.

A local DSM shop encouraged me not to run them due to have a few of them "slip". Again, it could have been owner error, but I'm not taking the chance.

Should be fine running 272's with out cams gears yes? Or maybe more my question is degreeing it just that little ganna make a big difference or effect anything if there not degreed?

I have them on my car and actually use them. Not just install once and lock tight the bolts forever. If you are going to be making adjustments to the cam gears the nuts will rip the threads off the bolts.

Unless this is just the set that I have, the nuts do not seem to be the right thread and are probably made this way to lock them down.

After constant use you will need to replace them. I just picked up new bolts and nuts that fit with lock washers.

I've put about 3 or 4k miles on a used set I picked up last summer. No issues so far. I'm running a 96 gst with stock cams and a 2GB CAS.
