Every since I finished my rebuild my speedometer has been causing me problems.

I'll start my car and sometimes my speedometer isn't working. I'll just early tap the dash and it will start working.

Well last night it went out and my taping and beating didn't fix it. Than my check engine light came on. When I got home I got my scanner and it pulled code p0500 I believe. Well today on my way to work it started working again. What is going on.

I was thinking Maybe it was the speed sensor but don't want to spend $80 if it's not it.

Thanks

Thats the code for the speed sensor. Go ahead and buy it. Make sure the wiring coming to the connector is good though.

I'd check to see if the harness is snug. If the clip has been removed then the harness can come loose from vibration and the speedo may then work intermittently. Happened to me on the racetrack where it would work, then stop, then work after I got off track. Just had to push the harness back down onto the sensor. Can use a bit of rtv to hold it on there.

Edit - just realized you're a 420a. Not sure any of what I said applies.

I know my connector pin is broken I want to replace the connector before I buy a new sensor. But where can I get one

True but I don't want to buy a used connector. I seen a tech post for the 4g63 where it showed ever connector on a site and was wondering if that's where I can get a new one.

I'll have to look.

But I still seem to have the problem of it not working and having to tap the dash for it to work again. I know everything is hooked up right. I checked and checked again slowly putting the dash back in. I wanted to make use I got everything.

I had to change everything besides my cluster. Have you tried a voltage test on the sensor and the connector?

So you tapped the dash to get it to work and you think that might affect the VSS? You do know where the VSS is located right? Its on the tranny. I would think that its a mechanical or circuit board problem on your gauge cluster before I thought it was at the VSS.

No, I know there is No way my tap can make it that far. But when my speedometer went out and I couldn't get it back on. That was the bad connector that plugs into the vss.

I had two problems come at the same time on the same thing.

Only would happen to me. This is how my car acts after I rebuild her motor.

Change the cluster i had the same problem , on my winter beater civic ..Something inside the cluster,.once i changed the cluster it works good now :thumb:

I really don't like that idea, ha. I just before the engine rebuild I modded the cluster to have LEDs and really don't want to have to do it again. Freaking car. Have to do everything twice.
