420A Speedometer gauge

can anybody tell me how to tell if a speedometer gauge is defective? I also just took my dash out to flock it and have no ideas where one of the cables goes. Hoping one of you guys know

So was that cable not attached to anything when you pulled the dash out? Or did you disconnect it? Where does the other end of it attach to?

I don't see any burned or damaged traces on the cluster pcb. As for that cable, it goes to the dual center vent just above the hvac controls.

cable goes to your air duct "on off switch"
