i am about to begin a (for the most part) ground up 2g awd build, with a 6 bolt motor...

im looking to get the best performance yet, still be able to daily drive it...

heres the story... my cousin owns a 2010 2SS camaro, that is supercharged, and sits at about 520whp, he stopped over the other day and just kept busting me on my car, and what im planning on doing...

hes never taken it to the strip, and ive only been to the strip once or twice, so the bet stands that i cant make my talon faster than his car, and still daily driveable, so im looking to get your guys opinions about this, and also throw some ideas of how you would go about this build... ive built a few cars before, but this is my first DSM full build.

THANKS! cant wait to hear what you guys have to say!:hellyeah:

yes def, your cousin wont know what hit him until he sees the TALON across your tail end. do me a fav and let him know how many dsmers are taunting him and his little ss. how old is he? oh by the way I'm running a ported evo 3 16g turbo and I love it. strong enough to get great power that hits like a hammer:hellyeah: but small enough for very fast spool time:thumb:. what are you going to tune with?

maybe ill print all this out and give it to him haha.... hes 26 i believe...

yea, i want to go with a small enough turbo to spool quickly, but big enough to make the power im looking for, didnt read much into it yet, i was thinking a 16g but i wasnt sure if it would be big enough

You don't need a built bottom end to do 450 awhp, just try to find yourself an E85 station and plan on running it.

Engine Management
-ECMLINK V3

Head
-engnblder SS valves, bronze valve guides, revised lifters
-evo XIII/IX springs/retainers
-FP2/HKS 272/Kiggly 272 cams (DON'T GET CROWERS)
-ARP head studs
-oem or supertech valve seals
-if your resurfacing the block get a mitsu MLS headgasket, if not run a composite with copper gasket spray

Fuel
-walbro 255 fuel pump
-FIC or PTE 1350cc injectors
-adjustable fuel pressure regulator

Intercooler
I hate to say it because of my install headache but the best bang for your buck FMIC short route piping setup is the VR-Speed kit.

Exhaust
The cheapest you can find used or get a 3" downpipe and weld in a QTP electric cutout. (keeping your exhaust stock from the cat back)

Turbo
-Holset FTW. I say it because of how much air they push and how little they cost.

AND RUN E85 are any of these close to you? ---> PA E85 Stations

Notice I put your engine management upgrade FIRST in the build, thats because its the most important. If your on a budget don't cut cost getting your tuning software, save elsewhere.

Good luck.

I love dsm's but you guys better respect that supercharged 2010 camaro, that thing is capable of mid 11's with the horsepower numbers that badboy is putting down, I'd like to know the torque that sucker puts out with the supercharger, hp is only part of the story.

The only thing stopping him from beating you is the fact that he thinks he can get away with stock rubber and running you from a dig in the 1/4. Run him from a 50-60 roll and he's going to rape you.

I think you should tell your buddy to talk to some guys that actually know about racing or go to the track and find out that he's going to need some drag radials if he plans on making this a real race & in all honesty you should convince him too, I want to see a race with no bs excuses.

Both of you have your work cut out for you, sounds like neither one of you have ever raced at the track so I'm guessing you guys are going to be very surprised when you get that first time slip and when I say surprised I mean in a heartbroken way.

Yes, that is the kit I was talking about.

That is exactly the SS valves/guides/lifter kit I'm talking about, theres nothing but good things said about that guy. Worth the money and he had those things to me in 3 days after I paid up.

:dsm:

well both me and my cousin have been to the track our fair amount... just i never drove a AWD DSM down the track, and hes never driven his new camaro...

okay i love dsm's and everything, but any1 that talks shit about a ls powered car know's nothing about those engines!!!!!!! the 2010 ss comes with a ls3 rated at 423 (stock) a supercharged one you are around 550 to 590 whp easy. I have seen and know people down in the 10's easy with these cars and the gto's. the engines make power!!!! they always have, even the ls1's are nasty.. u start throwing parts at them and spray or forced induction and they really come to life.. just sunday at the boti a guy was hitting deep deep 10's all day in a gto with a 150 shot on it with drag radial's. i am not saying you are going to win or loose but do not count the camaro as a easy win (if he can drive). It is drag racing no race is won until it is over, that is one thing i have found out the hard way over the years....

this isnt a thread of 8cyl vs 4 cyl or anything... its the fact of how people will big engines think they are the only ones who can make BIG power, the bias views they have when it comes to cars, ive often told people that thier (muscle) cars where nice, and gave them credit... do you think they looked at my car and did the same? no, because they dont believe that anything less than 8 cylinders will ever make any real power or deserve any respect...

i told my cousin i think his camaro is a sick car, and he looked at my tsi awd and told me i shouldnt waste my time with it...

The car has nothing to do with what kind of a person some1 is!!!!!! It sounds like a uneducated d!ck, but that has nothing to do with the car he drives. hell look at honda guy's LOL. People that do not know any better are the one's that act or say stuff like that. Teach him:sneaky:

well all this is to show him :)

i just want him to see the car in action and have a reality check

A guy with a 1g on here slapped on a hx40 to a almost stock motor and did 10.9.

e85 i would go with if you can. fuel lab afpr are good. Upgrade the line from the filter to rail. hks 272 272. Evo vavle springs. Arp head bolts and rod bolts. Acl bearings. You wont have to do a lot to get power. Do all timing waterpump and oil pump while your at it if they haven't been done.

sounds like fun man. i have repect for both sets of car running. i know what you mean about the whole no respect for the 4cylinder haha that why i have a street bike also haha. anyways. to the good stuff. sounds like you got enough money to do the dirty to your cus. your on the right path man. is his car a 6speed or auto? ithere way its a nice car. they run around a low 13 stock and thats at the 400 whp, so witht that extra 119hp might put him in the 11s if he keeps traction, and im pretty sure hes thinkin about useing the stock tires for a few reasons. 1. being he has traction control. lets face it, that stuff gotin alot better. your answer for that is awd :hellyeah: 2. from factory they have a 2 step rev form factory, thats why im kinda thinkin thats why hes gona stick with the factor tires and what not. so if he does run it this way and knows how to drive it then it might be close. haha thats a lie you got him. and bump on the sticker. but in the end i think you got him beat if you keep on the right path.

this kinda reminds me of the good ol movie. lets see if you guys can guess haha.

"to some, respect is worth more"

Im going to just list a few mods that I would do to smoke this camaro.

Do what you gotta do to get that shortblock built with the parts you ordered. Those will work fine. Find a good engine builder that does things right.

As for the head, I highly recommend manley valves/springs. Cams are a must-have, I have had personal experience with comp101200 and hks 272's. I'm not too excited about sending cams out to be machined then installed with shims, etc....

Transmission- if you have to build yours, I would recommend a stock rebuild from Jackstransmissions. Its cheap, and it works great.

I don't like ACT clutches anymore, but since you're on a budget, I would use the ACT clutch kit on the stock flywheel.

Spend good money on a good turbo setup. I love the Borg Warner turbos. They are cheap, and available in a bolt on housing. I would go t3, but you're on a budget. Port the stock 2g manifold. See if punishment racing has an o2 housing for you with external gated flange on it. I highly recommend the s362 for you. Fast spool, BIG power if you need it, crazy torque, and tons of top end.

Dsmlink-speaks for itself.

To be honest, on a "ground-up" build, you're going to blow your budget already, I can tell you now. Keep it simple. Don't mod too much at once or you'll end up finding yourself submitting a "dsm part out" thread in the classifieds. You don't need a crazy build to beat him.

well i was looking at extremepsi.com, and they offer some pretty sweet built heads, does anyone have any experience with them?

form the looks of it, if i got a head from them, all i would need is cams??? and the head is complete???

I got the same EXACT thing going with MY cousin, except he has a built K series hatch. LOL....it's annoying isn't it when he talks crap about dsm's right?

I feel your pain, My build is gonna be especially for my cousin just to make him feel special when he sees Dsm taillights.

Buying built heads off the shelf is overrated. Take your good head, have the machine shop install springs/valves/retainers of your choice, slap in some cams, 3g lifters, and call it a day. Its so much cheaper. You will still need to purchase lifters, reuse or buy new rockers, buy cams, and the head will be complete. I got a good deal on a barely used sbr stage 5 head back in the day but I sold it a few years ago along with my built engine. I now use just a stock head that I cleaned out a bit, manley valves/springs, hks cams, and I rev to 9300rpm.

But if you have the money, go for it.

And if you're going to build a strong engine with good rods/pistons, please don't put on a 16g or something small.

I went 10.90's on a GT3082r T3. Super fast spool, 500whp on 93 octane, 600 on race gas.

yea i misread the hp rating on the ss. my bad. hows everything coming along? man im hoping you spank your ###. i wanna see how bad thats gona be. think you might get someone to recored it when you guys do endup racing this. im sure all of us would love to see this..

to add to the qoute.
" For those 10 seconds or less, nothing else matters, not my crabs, or my herpies, or another the other stds i have, haha i mean uhhhh..... what!!"

you could always run a t66 like that sick supra had on his whip. it was a 10 sec car in the movie so why not try it out on your dsm. ha

I was actually thinking about selling my dsm to buy a new SS. They arent particularly fast because of the weight which is why my dad opted to buy the C6 Z06 instead, which I think is a hell of a performer. But good to see, have some fun messing around with it. You should be fine
