so i have this bet going on with my cousin...

i am about to begin a (for the most part) ground up 2g awd build, with a 6 bolt motor...

im looking to get the best performance yet, still be able to daily drive it...

heres the story... my cousin owns a 2010 2SS camaro, that is supercharged, and sits at about 520whp, he stopped over the other day and just kept busting me on my car, and what im planning on doing...

hes never taken it to the strip, and ive only been to the strip once or twice, so the bet stands that i cant make my talon faster than his car, and still daily driveable, so im looking to get your guys opinions about this, and also throw some ideas of how you would go about this build... ive built a few cars before, but this is my first DSM full build.

While the Camaro in that video doesn't appear to be an SS, it most likely has the 300+hp V6 that GM is quite proud of....and it still can't hold it's own against a stock-block, daily-driven DSM. Dave was the hands-down winner of each race that night no matter what he was lined up against.

The Talon had a stock 6 bolt with just shy of 140k on it powered by a Holset HX35 at 28-30psi. The only engine mods were Comp 101200 cams, ARP head studs, and a FelPro OEM composite head gasket.
 
oh yea, and a brand new rear sub frame and brand new LSD rear

I know right! Even though I grew up building and driving v8s and still love them, my eclipse has been the most fun yet most pain in the A yet! And my Gst isnt even THAT fast compared to most of the guys on here.. But to the OP, keep us posted fa sho!
 
Don't you love it when two different classes of vehicles get together for a race when it really isn't a fair race?

Now, if the OP dropped a little Chev 283 CID v8 in the front end of his DSM, then he might be able to brag much better....

Well I'm sure he would agree to the sticker being his head is so big already... I'm not sure what I want to run turbo wise... my main concern is getting the motor built right now, not even sure what exactly I wanna go as far as that is concerned yet... and when track day comes, we're going best out of three (which I plan to take all three LOL and ill be sure to record it and get it on here, I figured I'm going to shoot for close to 450whp and that should take me to my goal.
 
I would race him my nt 2g with 218k on it and still win. You know how? Ill run right the f into the side of his pretty brand new ss. And when he stops and starts crying ill be winning. PWN.

Same mind set on the new Camaro's...
 
I don't know why you even need 450whp if he's not going to put drag radials on. He won't even get out of the 13's with that kind of power going to the rear no matter how good of a driver you think you are. Sure he'll run 118mph on the top end with a low 13 second timeslip. I say you beat him with a Evo3-16G (look bone stock) then tell him to take that 1K and put a set of drag radials on his car & try again.

not sure what im going to do head wise yet... any ideas???? anyone???

well im thinking a decent valve job, on a 2g head, 1mm oversized stainless valves, 272 crower cams, dual spring valve springs and retainers, hks adjustable cam gears, and bronze valve guides
 
The 2G head already has superior flow & velocity over a 1G head, so don't put 1mm oversize valves in it.
Get on ebay and look for a kit from a guy called "engnbuilder" or something like that located in Oregon. He sells a kit with ss valves, bronze guides & 3mm orifice lifters for around $200.
Now get a set of Evo8 spings for $50-$75.
Next, order a set of Delta "H"272/272 reground cams for $200 (send in your cam cores).
Holy Crap, I just saved you over a $1000 and you still have a valvetrain that will run to 7800rpm (valvespring limited) and 10-11 second passes all day long.
If you plan on tuning the engine on a dyno then get adjustable cam gears, otherwise save a few bucks.
Now that I saved you a ton of money get meth injection so you can run pump fuel while running 25-28 psi of boost which should be more than enough to propel you to high 11's with a 16G or low 11's with a bigger turbo.
You should be able to build this engine for as much or less than your buddies supercharger kit yet run faster.

All I see is those new "civics" LOL I like that cause thats what it is. The honda kids got a new toy. What else does that talon have done in that video. I love seeing it spank the pack.
 
Right before my stock t25 blew I screwed around with a 2010 as camaro non super charged and I'm not impressed at all ya I'm only makig 210awhp now after spending $5000 so far with a built tranny and brand new drive train everything that's in my mod gallery and he barely pulled away now with my big 16g and safc tune with all the goodies needed I'm planning on 350awhp and I bet I can hang with your cousins camaro. A car I won't #### with though is the 2009 mustang Shelby gt500 holy shit those things are fast.
 
yea, i plan on over building and under powering, so this way when i get to the track, i can do as much damage as i like :) im just hoping i dont run out of money haha
