hello every one. my name is matt and i have decided to get rid of all my mustangs and mustang parts and get a dsm. my first car was a 91 gsx and i loved it, but 10 years ago i didnt know what i know now. i plan to daily drive this car and throw some small performance into it. im torn between the 1st and 2nd gens. ive been reading the forums and all the stories of cw. as far as quality of the stock parts, and the price and availability of performance parts which is better?

Crankwalk is overrated.

Its really up to on on which to get. There are plenty of parts available for each one. Just depends on which style you like better.

get a 1G ... the 2G has SOOOO many recalls, dont risk it ..

and 1G should be much cheaper to buy ....

Well said.

In the end you can make both look good with time and dedication.

I pesonally like the 2g style but i noticed that my 1g was cheper to buy certain parts for like exhaust, intercooler, etc. little bit more variety for a 1g as well in the aftermarket. You also start with a lighter platform than a 2g. It all boils down to prefrence though I sold my 1g because I like my 2g more.

Well, I love a 1G. Lots of positives to having one. Better yet, I'd love to have a 1G engine in a 2G. LOL Also on 1G's, you can get logging waay hella cheaper then a 2G.

Either one would be bad ass. Crank walk is over rated especially if you take all of the precautions. Read up on: clutch start override, not over adjusting your pedal so you don't block the port in your clutch master, a lighter clutch like a 2100, etc.... The internet tends to amplify things. I'm not going to make a thread titled "Yea! I don't have crankwalk!

2g's

Rev better (due to lighter rods and crank.) (He said he's building a street car.)
Have an arguably better compression ratio.
2g heads are a better base and are similar to an evo head. I know 1g heads are bad ass before I get attacked, LOL. (2g heads have better velocity for a street car, but they can be swapped to a 1g.)
You can throw an Evo III intake manifold on a 2g.
They don't really weigh much more.
Look less dated (Don't get me wrong I love 1ga's, but it's the truth. )
Get a 2ga because they are cheaper and I believe they have less rust issues. (?)

1g's

Are not seen as a chic car
Are easier to drop a tranny.
Are easier to lower. ( Although 2g's have more handling potential.)
Have a bigger throttle body. ( Can be swapped to a 2g if port matched though.)
Have better cams. (Can also be swapped to a 2g.)
I'm sure I'm missing more 1g Pro's.

Basically I prefer 2g's other than the whole tranny thing. That's just a bi***, but how often do you really need to do it. I would love to have both honestly, but it's hard enough to do 1 project right.

Just get a 1g. Cheaper to build and in my opinion looks much better than the 2g's> Unless you like that fast and furious look. 1g's have far more parts and are offered much cheaper then the 2g's. I love the oldschool look of the 1g.

2g's are a dime a dozen, can't go anywhere without seeing at LEAST one or two. 1g's look meaner, not at all feminine looking, and it's rare to meet anyone who actually knows about cars that doesn't have respect for 1g's.

I own 3 1GA's and i don't regret it even though they don't run, but thats the mechanics fault. AKA me. :) 2G's are silly bumper cars, ever notice their very rounded shape?

We will all give you our own opinion, that was an open-ended question you asked.
Just get yourself either one you think YOU will like the most all around. In the end the car is for you to enjoy not for others to like it.

thanks for all the replies. i don't really care about the way the car looks im more concerned with how the car runs. i guess i'll see what i can get my hands on. its hard to find a 1g where i live that hasn't been molested

HAHA thats funny. Everytime I leave in my other vehicle, and I'm rounding the corner on my street, when my car comes into vision, I yell, MMM, mmmm, mmmmm, thats a SEXY muthjaFU@A!! LOL LOL

I like them both. When I was looking, I originally was looking for a 1g and this 2g fell in my lap. The cost is reasonable for both now, but I couldn't get past the 2g look. I can't speak for performance parts, I haven't travelled that road yet. But mine is a DD and I really like driving it. N/T's are good on gas, but I may be looking turbo next time around, just for fun. Good luck with whatever you decide.

1G all the way.

6 bolt engine/4bolt rear.

Bulletproof
