Should I buy this 1G?

Seems like quite a steal.. I have a friend selling his 1G EPROM w/ DSMLink v2.5 and figured it could have potential for less than another 1000 put into it.

I test drove it and it seems to run strange. Just a little idle surge and since it was only 500 on the rebuilt block I didn't get on it hard.

What should I watch out for? Are there common things to look for with 1Gs or rebuilds?

What does he want for it? What kind of rebuild are we talking about here and by who? Have you inspected the frame for rust and other potential problems. These cars can be a money pit if you are not careful.

Hrm... Look it over well. Keep in mind that a rebuilt engine like ours relies on running it through the break-in process. It SHOULD be allowed to build boost and see strain in order to properly sea tthe rings. If it was babied during the first 50 miles it's likely going to have slightly low compression and could smoke due to an improperly seated oil ring. Just to inform you. I personally use Motoman's break-in method and it hasn't failed me the couple of times I've done it. Sadly I've only 2 cases of experience with it.

As for the buy? Buy it. The e16g alone would sell for at least 40% of the asking price of the whole car.

Really, this thing runs and drives? I have emailed him numerous times, and was told it doesnt run, and he doesnt know whats wrong with it.

He seemed very uninterested in answering any of my questions.

I'm not sure about now, the price has lowered 50% since I drove it. I drove it about two months ago but I didn't want to spend the 2k on it.

Like I said it was idle surging and I didn't want to really have to mess with it and he didn't know what was going on. I bet it was the ISC and it's actually gotten so bad it won't start/run now.

I'm not sure if I want to gamble if it doesn't run now.

If it is not running and the owner doesnt want to part it out, it is not worth the money at all. For a non running car that you are not sure what shape it really is in, I would not get it unless you have a chance to really inspect it to see if it is worth getting even to part out or fix up.

If it wasn't all the way up in two harbors, Id take a peek at it. Like I said, he hasn't been too cooperative when I have had questions.

Are you guys all there? In 05 I could part out a car for 1500 or so, providing the shell was in good shape. This comes with a good turbo an ETS fmic, a rebuilt head, etc... GO BUY IT!
The parts alone are worth it!

If I had 850 Right now I WOULD BUY IT NOW!!!! the shell alone is like at least 300. turbo = 400, FMIC= 350, ecu =100. what else can u want. Even if you were to keep it and rebuild it seems decent price to start at. I bought mine for 600 and ended up putting another 6-700 to get where I am now
