I was looking in a magazine and they said that Pacesetter made a header for the turbo. Does anyone know about the quality or performance of the header?

If you read though that thread, and look at the dyno chart, you will pull the BS flag real quick. They did not take into consideration that the damn thing was making more PSI with the long tube action!

FYI, that heat wrap is not good for your manifolds or exhaust. It will cause them to crack, rust, and ultimately fail. Get a JetHot coating, ceramic coating if you want, or just leave it bare, but dont wrap it.

To answer your gasket question; I used both gaskets that came with the manifold and the one between the turbo and manifold blew after about 2 weeks. I changed it to a steal one from a dealership witch cost I think $3.50 and ever since then I have had no problems. The gasket between the manifold and the head did not leak and still hasn't leaked. If I had to do it over again I would order a metal gasket and put that on instead of the white one they give you.
If you want a nice exhaust manifold and don’t want to spend much cash buy the non ceramic coated one for $135 and ten buy a can oh high temp paint and paint it.

This is what you want to use if you want to do it right and do it once....

The thicker gaskets will seal better and won't blow-out, they are what I am using w/o a problem. The multi-layer head to header gaskets have too large of holes in them if you have a stock unported head as they are made for the EVO 8 head and the stock thin header to turbo gaskets will not seal for very long. The $40 extra for the gaskets is well worth the peace of mind IMHO.

thanks arrfy, thats exactly what I ordered for gaskets except I got the slowboy 4 layer copper head to header gasket for $23, works out cheaper since Id have to pay Summits $8.95 shipping charge for a seperate order, just got it all from Slowboy along with turbo drain gasket, and thier stainless 02 housing to turbine gasket. SHould be bullet proof :thumb:

Im reusing my lines (going 14b to evo3 16g) can I buy the right copper crush washers at any parts store? NOone I found sells just those online.

There is a huge thread about the pacesetter manifold here:

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89944

I currently have the pacesetter on my 90 awd with all stage 1 and 2 mods completed at 20psi and i have no complaints bout it. It does generate some intense heat under the hood but thats not hurting anything anyway. Not like its already hot under there anyway hehehe  Anyway i never had a problem with it and ive had it for bout 8 months now :talon:

Are 50 trims showing better gains on this header, than a ported 2g mani? Im not really sure what to go with, but budget is a problem. I was thinking of getting the pace setter mani, and having a fab shop run a seperate runner out and back in so i can run my Ex. WG off the of manifold so it will dump back into the mani. I have the 2g mani dumped off the #1 runner. I'm looking for better performance, with a cleaner look where I can also heat wrap this tubular mani. What do you guys think?

my friend had one on his car, cracked in like 3 places, welds fell apart in like 3 weeks, not saying that pacesetter sucks (alright dsm modorators :shhh: ) but my friends fell apart reeal fast, so go sfp or something
:dsm: erik

so would one prefer having a ported 95 mani for their 50trim, or a pace setter tubular mani for the 50trim. What manifold proves for better gains? I would like a little insight before i invest . thanx

john

if you just read all the post dont buy the pacesetter header there garbage. stick with ported 2g or evo manifold or if you go with a t/3 sytle turbin housing go with a dnp or custom made header.

Got a pacesetter mani on my car for bout 7 months now. Never not once did i have a problem with it. As for performance gains..........yea alittle. Nothing dramatic but enough that i noticed it. It seems like i got more top end than anything. Spoolup stayed bout the same. Maybe a slight quicker. Just my .02 :talon:

Please unless you have them on your car or had them on your car do not speak up and tell something you read. I have had them on my car since March 04. Not one single problem. Also they have a 3 warranty, if by some chance anything does go wrong you get a brand new one. Also like a stated before do you think summit would stock and sell junk? If you think so please give them a call, and let the world largest supplier of race equipment that you read on the internet that they are selling junk.

you think the ceramic coating is worth teh $127? Jet Hots webpage says better flow & reduced temps and link an article from hot rod mag saying ceramic coating reduced underhood temps by 300*F.

One thing though, JetHots standard polished coatings (like what the pacesetter has I think) is only rated for 1300*F. Its inside n out, what if that chips off and flies thru your turbine blades? Jethot offers a 2000*F coating that only comes in flat colored finishes, they sell treated pacesetter turbo headers for $263 w/standard 1300* coating, and $288 for 2000*F coated ones. The JetHot rep on the phone recommended the 2000*F treatment, "especially for a turbo header", were his exact words.

Or should i just high temp paint the $139 one and not have to worry about any coatings flaking off and flying into the turbine wheel?

Tough choice to make on pure speculation.

Just recently went from running the Pacesetter to a DNP and wanted to post my conclusions. Believe it or not, ive had the Pacesetter close to a year and never had a problem even under 20 psi. No cracks or anything. Call it what you will. I cant complain about Pacesetter. I even used their exhaust/head gasket. There wasnt much left of it then when i did the switch so i would have been replacing it anyway. I basically chose to use the gasket because i didnt feel like grinding the flange down so i could use a good one. For the length of time that i had it on i never had any leaks but if you plan on having it longer i wouldnt recommend it.
Now the good part. I chose to go with the DNP because its puts down more power and I can vouch for that. There was a difference performance wise between the 2. Spool up stayed bout the same, but from 5lbs and up is where the gain is. Pulls alot harder and all they to redline. Top end is improved. Now granted, any tube manifold will always increase topend. But each one will differ power wise. The heat is also less intense with the DNP than the Pacesetter. I gotta admit, the heat from the pacesetter was pretty extreme. The DNP isnt near that at all. First thing i noticed with the DNP is the quality is way better than the Pacesetter. Not only that but after installation, i realized how much better it looked :thumb: I was kinda surprised that i didnt get any gaskets or bolts. For $530 i was kinda upset but thats an easy, cheap fix. Installation was alot more involved than the Pacesetter was also. But when i got done it was well worth it. Each one has their own drawbacks. But i wouldnt get a Pacesetter again. I never had a problem with the pacesetter, but hands down the DNP is better. Remember you get what you pay for. If i could do it over again, i would have gotten the DNP the first time. Just my .02, take it as you will. Pictures are before and after :talon:

Too bad the DNP doesnt stay all shiny and bright for long.

Lol, actually, i thought the same thing when i got it, but it does stay very nice lookin. It darkens up alittle bit but not much. Almost like a goldish color but still like a mirror. Only time will tell. We'll see in a years time. Still well worth it over the pacesetter :talon:

I also have the pacesetter header. I replaced the shitty paper gaskets with metal ones though. So far, There are no signs of cracking.
You're pace setter header in that picture looks disgusting :barf: haha.. But then again, When I got mine i wirebrushed all that crap off of it that flakes, And polished it up nice, Which looks great now!
Either way, My pacesetter header has been holding up for now.

Yea, that pic was shortly after i got it. The paint was still burning off. I ended up cleaning it up not too long after that cuz without a doubt it looked like hell. It didnt look too bad, i didnt polish it or anything. Not near as good as the DNP tho :talon:

so SPoolin, your Pacesetter, did it melt any fans or burn your valve cover gasket or anything adverse? I see yours was not ceramic coated. I got a ceramic coated pacesetter, evo3 16g, and 122 performance tubular 02 housing waiting to go on and was just worried about melting a fan. Its not my daily driver though just weekends/track. Hot Rod mag says ceramic coatings lowered underhood temps 300*F on the header surface.
