I know this has been talked over before but I figured to update today's tech and discuss what cams that are out today that people have great results in a Auto DSM. I'll be shopping for cams soon, I could use the advice 😉👍🏻

This is going to be very dependent on the turbo, and how the car is used.
I'm using the FP 3582BB turbo, I was thinking of going with Kelford 272/278 or 280/288 and I'm looking for around somewhere maybe 700hp.

So im auto (Time Attack build) and i went with the GSC S2 billets. 274. The 272 cams are a good known option and 274 just has a slight edge and works well but is aimed more for the mid to high range. So what your doing with it will be fine as your going to be in the power band alot so will gain a good amount, even if on a stock based engine which your not, so even better. Just remember springs to go along with it as these 272+ cams are aggressive and need the supporting springs to ride along side the cam

I have the Kelford 280s in my car with a JMF drag manifold and it wants all the RPM . Both on my previous 72mm and the current 68mm setup. I'd venture to say you would have a much broader and more suitable powerband with the 272s for your 3582.

I was thinking of 272/274 combo, do you think I would benefit in anyway with that?

I can only give my opinion but I’ve seen the data logs on both the quickest and fastest 64mm nitrous and non nitrous cars. Dupey ran his 8.9’s back in 2013 on the 3582 and then 2021 he went an 8.4 on the xona 7864. He used a 50 shot for spool up #6 precision. Then you have Kevin Collins running the lazier Apex 6469 but no nitrous and a number 8 precision converter at, consistently running 8.6’s at 160 plus mph and even hit a 8.5’s one pass this season. One uses a Magnus cast and the other a jmf billet drag intake mani. One uses GSC S2’s and the other high lift K272’s.

The xona definitely spools up 1500RPM faster in the mid 5000’s with the GSC’s, the Apex setup is a little lazier but the turbo itself is putting down more power per psi. I wouldn’t go any larger than a good 272 or the GSC S2. I don’t know if you plan on using nitrous or not because the #6 is a tight converter, I’m still on a #8 at roughly 950-1000 to the wheels based off my trap speed and race weight haven’t dynoed the car in almost 6 years. Outside of GSC’s switch to the billet core and revised cam profile I don’t think any of the cams have changed much in the past 15 years. Here is my dyno overlay when I switched from Kelford 272’s standard with evo 3 intake manifold to GSC S3’s and a Magnus cast. Picked up over 100whp and barely lost any of the initial punch at 4K with a hx40 turbo.

I believe I have a Precision #7 TQ, and I will be running Nitrous to get up on the converter if need be. I'm getting so many fixed reviews it's hard to choose what cams to use, I hate to do the old "try it and see what happens method" but I guess that is unavoidable. I'm all about keeping it simple, stupid. I guess I'll try GSCs and see what happens with my setup.

I think you’ll be very happy with those cams and your goal with the car!

A local car i tune using a 6466 t3 .82 with ported head JMF race intake manifold and GSC S3 cams will not stall with the number 7 converter without the dry shot. He refuses to change cam's but i keep trying as i think they are not a good match. Soon as he hits the kit though it gets over the hump and stalls up just fine. The car does freight train on the big end though. 9K rpm its still pulling its face off. Trapped 139mph at only 31psi at the shootout.

Listening to the mitsutimes for this past 1 1/2 hr seems everyone is running a GSC S2s and seeing that the cams are billet where some others are cast with other company's that have snapped in the passed, I'm more comfortable now of my decision to run the S2s. Thank you all for giving me your input on this, much appreciated for sure. Trying to get this car out of it's bat cave and see the sunlight again to make some progress passes unlike my failed attempts in the past. I'm super excited what the future with hold and hoping one day to bring my car to the shootout and have fun with you guys there.

I run a set of Kelford 264s on my auto car and if I didn't have a tight stock converter, it would be a super sweet AND FAST car. It is my Blue 92 TSI.
I have a couple runs in it on YouTube in case you're interested. I needed my NO2 hooked up for getting out of the hole but she was shifting at 8800 with a T3 HX40.

That's impressive with a stock converter. We always have been stick shift guys, The one car we swapped to a auto and had DTR build the trans and he explained to us that if you are not limited to no spray, stall it a bit on the tight side to keep mph up and use the shot to stall up.

Yeah Darrin and I talked about that and at that time, there wasn't a single converter available. My trans is a DTR also. Love it but it broke the tip off of the mainshaft out on the OD end so I don't drive it. I need to find a shop that can swap out the shaft, as I bought one from Tim Z just before the fire.
