    Hi Justin,
I want to install a downward looking compressor housing on my EVO 3 turbo. According to a quick research, Subaru STI used a MHI 16G with the housing I want. I could not find any reputable vendor that sells it but I found this on Ebay

evo 3 compressor housing | eBay

My question is: Do you know where I can buy a genuine MHI 16G downward looking compressor housing ? and if not do you know if the one on the link is a good replacement to an MHI housing.
I am aware that I will have to fabricate a set up for the waste-gate actuator and I don't mind doing that.
    Thanks for this great thread.

Do you know the flow difference between the knock off 20g wheel and the MHI 20g wheel?

Unfortunately not. I don't know of anyone personally who is pushing their knockoff 20G's to the point where they can get some good airflow numbers to compare.

Well I was given the part number for an o2 housing, but the largest turbine I'd want in a 6cm2 14B turbine housing is the one it was intended to be used with...a TD05H. Anything larger would be choked terribly.

hey Justin you seem to be the guru, how should I go about verifying my oil feed line pressure for the BEP s258 I have? I order it 3 years ago (hard time finding receipt from who) with feed line it just seems a bit small approx 1/8", the fitting looks like -4AN but the feed line is slightly smaller. I'm mainly concerned about too high or low pressure and coking the oil lines from hot cool downs

Since this is oil cooled only should I think about a turbo timer? or external oil cooler/oil temp gauge?

    Thanks for your time -Chris

You need to rig up something to test the pressure between the filter housing and the turbo; add restriction as needed to keep oil pressure in the region of 65-70psi peak. Don't over-restrict as it may cause more damage than over-oiling.

Not unless you literally turn off of a highway and into your driveway, or you're prone to ripping on it just before parking somewhere. All you need is about 1-2 minutes of zero-boost, low-rpm driving to cool the cartridge down after a hard pull or two. Most of this is achievable while driving through a neighborhood until you reach your driveway.

I'm pretty sure the Subaru turbos in question were all standard or "small" 16G's from the factory....meaning if you were able to score one of the covers or complete turbos, it will most likely require machining to fit an Evo III 16G compressor.

The eBay vendors have simply skipped that step and just cast a housing that mimics the factory housing yet is already cut for an Evo III 16G compressor. I'd trust one of the eBay covers if you're not having luck elsewhere.

Got one for ya Justin. I've got a PTE6076RLS turbo here. BB CHRA. Called up PTE and asked what size fitting is needed for this oil inlet. They told me a 1/4 NPT. I ordered up the PTE/Garrett Journal bearing oil feed line from ExtremePSI and it doesn't fit. The fitting is a hair too small. What's the next size up from 1/4NPT that might fit? Also...I'm feeding this turbo from the head on a balance-shaft deleted motor. What size restrictor do I use if any? Is the smaller hole within the inlet a restrictor itself? Right now, I just need to know what size fitting works in the inlet of this CHRA.

Also, under the 6076RLS inscription, is:

    PTB
    400-6077

Is that another model number or something?

Those inlets are supposed to be 1/4" tube, the same as the inlet of a T25 which came stock on a 2G. The fitting is intended to seal on the flare at the bottom of the inlet, not tapered threads like NPT fittings.

Thanks Justin. Since I could not resist the ETS intercooler kit deal that was offered to the DSM community, I will keep my EVO III turbo as is. I will just work around clearing the AC fan or just removing it and put a slim fan.

The problem is, the threads don't catch at ALL on anything! The fitting just spins and spins and spins. So......what do I use?

Which fitting, the 1/4" tube fitting doesn't catch anything? Then it's possible someone stripped it out I suppose....you may need to drill and tap the flange on the top of the turbo for a T3-style oil inlet flange.

The threads are perfect, and the turbo has never been installed. CHRA is still completely dry.

Then you have to be using the wrong fitting. Make sure it's a 1/4" tube fitting, which would have a 7/16" x 20 thread, I believe.

You, sir, are correct. I just got off the phone with PTE again. Apparently, the first guy gave me bad info (imagine that). The oil feed fitting is a 7/16" bpt inverted flare. $23 for that adapter/fitting! Now....do I need a restrictor somewhere if I'm feeding this BB chra from the head (shortblock has NO balance shafts)?

Strange. Yeah I'd pretty much need to see pics to be able to determine if it's worthy of DSM use.

Surprisingly, I find that a lot within that company. LOL
If it were a Garrett, I'd say yes- you'd want a .035" restrictor in there...but I honestly have no idea what PTE's own-design ball bearing cartridges require for oil, and apparently they don't know either. I've heard some guys say they were told to feed them unrestricted from the filter housing, which is 100% wrong.

Best thing I can tell you is proceed from the head, no restrictor- if it smokes, add a .035" restrictor and you should be fine. :thumb:

Looks like a T28. If that's the case you'd be in good shape if you can come up with a turbine housing to fit it- or just have a 2G T25 turbine housing machined to fit this turbo's turbine wheel, so you'd end up with a downfiring T28; roughly the same potential as a Small 16G, awesome for a daily driver.

I thougt the T28 was about the size of te T25? The size of this turbo would be more compared to a hy or hx35w.

Doesn't matter what the physical size of the compressor cover is, the wheel specs are what matters...and I'll bet my next paycheck if you measure the compressor specs you'll come up with 46.5mm / 60mm, making this a T28.
