Measure the inducer of the compressor. If its bigger than about 60mm, its to big for you.

If it's a gt42 or larger It's not for me anyway..But If I can get it for a super low price, and the turbo is not a knockoff..Someone could use it..

The 17C is nearly identical to a Big 16G in spec, but the blade contour is different. Don't plan on using a 17C compressor in a Big 16G cover.

Think of a 17C as an overgrown 14B....great airflow at lower boost levels, but hates high boost with a passion. A 14G is rated at nearly the same airflow as a 14B, but according to the map the 14G compressor is slightly more efficient.

Hi Justin
I have the old school FP green turbo. My question is when I go to the DSM Dyno Challenge page it asks what size of turbo you have. Does mine fit in with the 20g turbos? There is no option for FP Green.

Thanks

Matt

justin, i just bought a 20g off a member here. suppose to be a genuine MHI. it has MHI cast marks on the hotside, but the compressor cover is a "ebay" cover. is there anyway to determine if the internals are truly MHI or ebay?

Sort-of impossible to tell without doing a teardown...although there are a bunch of aftermarket compressor covers being sold on eBay so it's quite possible the turbo is Genuine with an aftermarket cover.

PM me with some pics and we'll continue this discussion. :thumb:

Most of the ebay 20g compressor wheels look nothing like a mhi. As i'm sure you know by sight, the mhi 20g has swept fins. Most of the ebay wheels i've seen have straight blades.

I know what you mean, Donnie- but that's often difficult to describe to someone who isn't familiar with both types...and there are just too many different knockoffs circulating the globe to definitively state "here's a Genuine MHI wheel and here's a knockoff".

For example, this knockoff 20G which I rebuilt for a customer a while ago appears to have straight major blades and swept minor blades. At first glance the wheel is a pretty decent MHI clone...better than some I've seen:

Mine definately has swept blades on the cold side(turbine if I am not mistakened). And straight blades on the hotside. When I get home I'll post pics. Unfortunately my phone won't allow me to add pics for some reason

Justin, is there anything I can do with my bullseye to4b v-trim to make it not suck? Is it possible to rebuild it with any different wheels or housings?

I'm getting ready to finally up the boost and start making some power and I'm stuck with this for now and from what I have read it is really lacking in the power department and the spool sucks too.

Hey Justin, quick question about thrust play on the hx40s. I just got my car running today( been really busy at work, sucks being self employed, no time for toys LOL) with the new set up and after idleing for 20min or so I inspected the turbo to make sure it was getting oil and noticed a little thrust play, nothing crazy, felt it on my old hx also. So i measured it and came up with about .001 or a lil less. My question is what is the thrust and shaft play supposed to be?

P.S Didnt forget about ya, Should get that box of stuff out saturday, just been so busy

Hey Justin did some research and couldn't find my answers so i come to you. I have a spare stock house and I was wondering whats the biggest wheel I can fit in it?

Well the numbers on the housing are mr188004. All I know is its the exhaust side of a turbo that was supposed to be a 16g

I havethe exhaust housing to a I guess it would b a 14b turbo just wanted to know what size turbine wheel i could put in it
