Quest for 9's with stock everything

I edited the post. It's almost identical to a gtx4088, except the Borg Warner is $570 and the GTX is $2k+

I'll be running C16

coltdie did high 9s in a awd 5 speed colt
(awd colts are about 2500-2600 lbs)
he had all stock longblock, cams, single disc clutch, stock trans he rebuilt. tuned with link and ran a pretty big turbo. and four slicks. i was always impressed to see 9s on a stock motor/trans/t case. probably welded the center diff, i dont remember
dsms can get down to colt weight , i think some of them have been down around 2500

so its possible
but its not easy, stock trans breaks so easily at that power level
might be a lot easier now that your going auto

I'm still looking for the stock longblock record, which I fully intend to beat. At the weight I'm sitting at, it shouldn't be too hard

I just got back from the 12 hour trip to pick up an auto trans and transfer case. The guy had piles and piles of parts all over the place and he's not longer into DSM's so I went picking through the piles. He had a 1gb hood, headlights, and bumper just sitting next to his barn. I asked how much, and he said just take it, SWEET!

The next adventure is to modify the rear subframe to mount up an Infiniti Q45 rear diff since I refuse to spend $450 on a stock 4 bolt rear

I know people that go 9's on that diff in 240sx's without any issues and they're only $50 at the junkyard. The non-lsd version comes with a 3.30 gear (same as auto 1g) and I will just buy a lsd diff and swap the ring gears

I'll make the axles myself and a 3 bolt rear isn't going to last at this power level

As long as they are the same length, just swap the inners on the stock axles. If they are different, I will take the longer one, cut it down to the proper length, and have a local Driveshaft shop handle the rest

Ok, so you are planning on using the factory bars?

I don't think that's going to work so good.

I'm about 99% sure you'll end up using 3/s outters with the Q45 inner and a custom made bar. If you use anything dsm, in the axles you'll be right back where you started. the 4 bolts like to break the bar although I've broken an inner. The three bolts break the inners. Also the 3 bolt has the tripod on the outer which is backwards from most things.

well with my luck, the r200 rear I planned on using isn't a 3.30, it's actually a 3.35 so that won't work. I found a few junkyards that are willing to ship a rear diff and only charge $50 for shipping so it will only be about $300 to my door for a 4 bolt versus $450 local

Quick little update. So I scored 3 parts over the last week. Picked up an IPT converter for $300 shipped from someone on facebook. Went to a swap meet today and got 2 16x8" RX7 wheels for cheap and a pair of Bosch 044's with fittings, Vortech Y, and -6 line with a 90 and straight for $100

I also ordered some samples for powdercoat colors I liked but can't decide which one to go with. The engine bay is getting painted "khaki" so what do you guys think? I'll be doing the valvecover, rear subframe, engine mounts, various brackets, and possibly the wheels

I will never find a 94-99 3kgt rear. It would be nice though

the 14b awd record holder claims his car is 2330 with him in it. if that is true, that changes the game
if you can get that light or even lighter than 9s would be so much easier than what everybody thinks. your typical lightened 1g dsm is going to be 3000 lbs with driver. i have no idea how guys can shed 1000 lbs from a car
by the time you do all the basics. both bumpers, back interior, pass seat, air con, p,s,abs, little things here n there your only down 150 lbs

The car is definitely going to go 9's, how far into the 9's is the question. While I was on my way back to the swap meet today, I looked into running a solid axle and I'm 95% sure I'm just going to run a Ford 8.8 rear

Went back today to go buy a fuel cell I saw but the guy wasn't there so I went back to the fuel line pile and bought everything in the picture, brand new Aeromotive FPR, and brand new Hurst shifter all for another $100.
