Has anyone had any experience with this kit, worth the money?? For 489 it aint priced bad at all. Just looking for some feedback before I make the decision.. I've got about 500.00 to spend on either that or the GT Mani, EVO III O2 housing from DSMParts.com and a dp from punishment racing. How much will the FMIC help on a stock car..
My reasoning for buying FMIC first is, that its easier to buy 100-200 parts here and there then to save up 500.00 so since I've gotten a lump sum knot of 500 coming to me.. which should I do.. I know I rambled all through that but oh well.. Any and all help is appreciated. THANKS!

Good posts, I was gonna buy this kit, but not with all these damn problems. These sound like easy fixes for the company that not every customer would be able to fix after spending $500. Its clear they know about the problems too.:notgood:

Im actually in the same boat as a few people here,I have heard punishment is a great company but I dont want all the lil problems. Its stilla toss between this kit and the xs kit for me.

All these damn problems???? Keep in mind we ship on average 20+ kits a month and 250+ of these kits a year. Are there going to be some minor issues here or there when you have that many pieces (5 pipes to each kit so there are at least 1250 pipes a year being shipped with kits) being installed on 15+ year old cars? Of course there are, but for the few customers that do run into to problems we do everything we can to help get their kits installed.

I just wish the 98% of customers who have no installation issues posted about their positive results as much as the 2% who have had issues do. Doesn't matter everybody skips over those posts anyways:rolleyes:

yeah but the sad fact you cant make everyone happy.

Its like when I sold cars and you bent over backwards and basically gave the car away those people cried a river about everything but the people that payed sticker for the car are the best customers.

I am still considering getting a FMIC but I want to see what the sidemount does with meth.

Wow, If there are 98% of people who didn't have any fitment issues, they either had a different kit, or a different car. EVERYONE had fitment issues, there's no way you couldn't have fitment issues. If only SSAC would make a short-route 1g kit you wouldn't sell a single one of these hack-job IC kits. The only thing you could do in good faith is lower the price dramatically and state "THIS IS AN EBAY THROWN-TOGETHER KIT WITH GENERIC PIPING, POOR FITMENT, AND A CXRACING CORE YOU CAN BUY FOR $100. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK" I'd be willing to bet they pay no more than $150 for each kit (probably less.) Anyways, I appreciate LaN's effort in building a reasonably priced, eBay sourced 1g kit, and showing everyone how he made it work. But when this kit was sold to a respected vendor, you would expect them to make the proper modifications to make this a well-designed kit. You just said your-self you sell $100,000 worth of these kits a year, so for Christ's sake make them fit right!

Are you serious? $150 per kit I wish, if you knew how little we actually make from these kits you would be surprised. If everyone who bought a kit had issues like you claim there would be hundreds and hundreds of posts from people who had issues instead of the handful there are.

If it's really that much of an issue we will discontinue the kits, like I said we don't make shit from them and if it's going to cause all sorts of drama then it's not worth it by any means. We bust our ass to keep our customers happy and to keep a good name for our shop and if the fmic kits are really causing that many issues there is really no sense in offering them any longer.

Tim,

There are more happy people than upset people dont listen to this guy.

Its like when I sold cars and you bent over backwards and basically gave the car away those people cried a river about everything but the people that payed sticker for the car are the best customers.

Haha. I'm a tech at a VW/Mitsu dealer, and a salemens told me the exact same thing. That's funny.

Oh yeah. I have the kit and like it.
I had to trim a few things. bumper cover and rebar, made the holes bigger in the body for the end tankes, and trimed the egde of my factory radiator. I would fit w/o trimming, but it would have been rubbing.
You can expect all this stuff from any IC install, right??

I have an SBR G60 and I'm running 26 or so psi with meth.
The 1st night I put my twin disk in I got a little too excited and was running about 30 psi.

I've had a few problems with my kit too, but overall the price is definitely worth it. My main problem was that the pipe on the driver side going into the inlet of the intercooler seemed to long, and the driver side of the intercooler stuck out too far and i couldn't get my bumper on. I trimmed that bumper and I also cut the pipe going into the inlet and used jb weld as a bead so the coupler didn't come off. It worked fine. Like Tim ^^ said, there's going to be a few problems here and there cause everyone will piece together differently, but I'm going to say that Punishment still made a very good kit, especially for the money. I would also suggest putting a nipple on the j-pipe for those of us still using stock turbos.

My girlfriend actually bought this for me as a "I've got a lot of saved up money" sorta-present. I had my doubts because of all the complaints mainly about the BOV and ABS. I did not have a problem with the BOV because I just kinda tweaked it slightly and it worked. The ABS did get in the way, but a small cut and a longer coupler saved the day.

All in all, for the price, it really can't be beat. Besides, future investments in my car will require more modifications to adapt to my new set-up and so I don't plan on always using theses same pipes in the same configuration. But for now, with my 14b beast and my general lack of welding and fabricating skills, this kit fit the bill.
Thanks Punishment.

yea thats what was wrong with mine, i just cut like two inches off the driver side piping, but the kit looks great everything is perfect now that i cut one pipe. well worth the trouble and money :D

PR FMIC kit is by far the best bang for the buck if you don't know how to fabricate and work your way around small defects. If you want that unbeatable quality OF COURSE your going to pay 600-900 for a FMIC kit. When you spend that much on a kit and one of your pipes has a blemish or a sharp edge go ahead and complain.
How cheap can you get? I can fabricate/weld and I installed my ebay FMIC work for under $200. Why pay someone for something when you can make it yourself.
All in all you can't expect amazing quality control from an independent shop who is nice enough to piece together a kit to take all of the guess work out of the task. You can't expect them or any retailer to test fit EVERY kit for minor imperfections. Again compared to a top of the line kit...your paying for name, quality control, accuracy, R+D, etc.
You get what you pay for in the end.

I have had this kit for almost 2 years now and have nothing but good luck with it. The core and LICP gave me ZERO issues whatsoever. The UICP was a bit of a pain but it worked with very little modification. I had to lower the BOV flange just a hair and everything was fine. I EVEN HAD THE FACTORY 1G ABS!!! It worked just fine. I recently switched the PR UICP to the ETS UICP since they are local to me and I like to support my local shops, but I could have kept it the way it was and had no issues.

Too many haters out there... :beatentodeath:

For those of you running stock turbos with this kit, did you just tap the j-pipe and screw i a small nipple? I was wondering if the j pipe was even thick enough to screw something into.

I just bought this kit used from another member and it looks like a quality piece. Very nice welds, strong construction and I'm not worried about fitment one bit. Don't worry about these whiners Tim. These cars were not designed to have a FMIC with piping running through the core support, so obviously they are not bolt onWTF. If people are going to modify their vehicles as such then they should be prepared for issues and have (or learn) the patience & skill to deal with them. If they can't handle that, well then they should reconsider owning and modding a DSM.

I've had nothing but smooth transactions with your shop and every person I've ever talked to about punishment racing has had nothing but good things to say. I've been out of the scene for a couple years and I was glad to see you guys doing so well.

I was actually considering buying this kit too but I guess I will just have to piece one together myself. With all the trouble and extra 'fabrication/modification' that EVERYBODY has had to do I may as well just search for a core from Turbochargers.com or somewhere and a pipe kit from Ebay. The kit does look BEAUTIFUL but installing, removing, modifying, and installing everything and fitting it onto the car is enough without tweaking an already existing kit that is expected to fit pretty well straight out the box.

I read all the threads including the one that was linked as well. Educated decision.

Can someone with this kit post a pic of how they mounted the fmic? I didn't get any instructions, and I'm not too sure of how I want to do this. Also anyone who has a 90' awd with this kit, did you have to move your stock oil cooler? I already looped my ps cooler, and took out the A/C fan since there was no A/C componets in the car when I bought it.

This kit is really worth it. Good Price. And for some of the fitment issues(very few). Just fabricate and stop crying about it.

I just installed mine this week. I had to make modifications due to having a GM MAF. But it seems like it would have fit perfect otherwise.
