looks like you did your research and know what you are doing..

Whats your plans for an ignition setup?

Thanks. I think I am going with Spark Tech. They seem to be highly recommended. Once I get the cage in, this project should start moving.

Tell you the truth, I don't know what I am doing. The guys on the site give great advice. I would not have known about this seat if DWR-DSM didn't mention it. Thanks again DWR-DSM.

That system is definitely the way to go as long as you opt for the CDI system as it includes and M&W pro10 box. Definitely the best on the market. It is a little pricey but absolutely worth it as blowing out spark will never be an issue.

Thanks for the confirmation. Alex from Dogbox told me the same thing.

Sorry for not posting an recent updates. I have been busy with work; more layoffs, but it looks like I will make it again (thank God). So the build continues. JMF moved, so I am just waiting for Jim to give me the word. Once he is ready, I will take the car to the shop. I'll keep you posted.

Hey Guys, quick question. I am thinking about picking up some wheels. I am looking at the 16x8 Enkei RPF1 38mm offset wheels. With that offset will the wheels stick out past the fender?

They sound the same size as the FD wheels which I'm looking into getting for my build and with 245/50/16 tires they are pretty much flush and 255's stick out. Something to note as wheel I don't know if it's the same with those wheels but the FD 16x8 wheels reuqire hub centric spacers to fit and not put undue force on the studs and snap them

I run FD wheels with the stock wheels studs with no problems yet. Probably about 2,000 miles or less, but over a dozen passes down the track with no issues. I have 10mm spacers in the rear, but had to grind down the seam weld on the rear lower control arms. The fronts fit ok with out spacers with some minor triming/grinding. I think i may have had to grind down the abs sensor bracket since i don't have spacers in the front. I love them though. I have 225's and they sit almost flush. 245's would probably look really nice flush w/ the fender.

Stock studs are fine, it's the spacers you need(which you have). I think you read my post wrong LOL ;) You need hub centric spacers so you don't put extra force on the stock studs and snap them.

Superman Update

Ok guys, just a quick update. Picked up those Enkie wheels. I got a good deal on them. Should look good with some drag slicks. Let me know what you think.

I agree. I Got a good deal on these so I had to jump on them.

Hey man this is very nice what you are doing I only dream of being able to do something even remotely close to that. I have been keeping up with your posts but wasnt able to suggest anything because my advice on here isnt worth jack sh%t. I have some knowledge about DSM's for a 17 year old. I had my piece of shit little 1993 5 spd GS for a month and it was my first car and I bought it cause I dreamed of owning a DSM and when I found this one for 2 grand in AWESOME condition I bought it. This thing is slow as sh%t and when people tell me to slap a turbo kit on it I dont listen because I know I wont. I hope my next car is going to be a 1g tsi awd or a gsx so I could have a so-so "fast" dd LOL. Guys that build these things are very dedicated and I hope one day I will be able to be like that too. Be I just feel proud of owning my piece of shit non turbo DSM that I worked my ass off for since I was 15 and Id rather drive it knowing I made every penny myself than drive a 09 beemer knowing my dad got it for me.
P.S. but hey, its a 5 speed :p
keep up the great work man ill follow

Thanks for the kind words. I was just like you man. My first DSM was a crappy 1g that I bought at night in the rain (never buy a car at night or in the rain). Well, the next day when the sun came out, I really saw what I got. I had to replace almost everything, but it was my car and I loved it. I waited 7 years to build this Drag car. It is costing an arm and both legs, but it is worth the price. Just stick with it. One day you will be able to build your own car.
