No I see that it unbolts.. But I was asking if the the actual chute bracketry is removable. As in you can pull the thing off and never know the car had a chute to begin with, or does it chill like a bike rack of some sort.

Like paul said all you have to do is look at the pics I posted and you can see YES the chuete(as in the whole assembly) comes off and all you see is a opening.

Did a mock fitting with the crank and the girdle and was getting ready to use my grinder to make room for the R&R rods but thought about the new main caps from jay racing I think it was and how they didn't have anything connecting them to each other. One I think it makes getting oil to the rods easier and two with my kiggly girle they're alredy going to be tied together just like a 7 bolt so I just cut the whole bridge off instead of grinding it down. Some will say that I took away from the strength of the mains as a whole but I think if it's good enough to run the jay racing caps like this I should be fine.

Sean, I have never seen anybody cutting off the main caps bridge like you did. Here are my thoughts:

Pros:
1. No need to do additional work to clear those monster R&R aluminum rods.
2. More oil to the rods (according to JayRacing)
3. Weight saving :)

Cons:
1. Never done before. Without the bridge, the caps might move around even with the girdle.
2. Main caps could get mixed up if not careful.
3. More work getting the caps align

I can't wait to see the final product. You're a guine pig for this. :thumb:

Exactly what I was thinking. To add to that the girdle helps align the caps and with arps bolted down more than stock and the girdle I think its atleast as good as stock and yet I am clear for the rods

Hey 2g motors are like this. Can't be that bad :)
I wouldn't say it's exactly like the 2G 7-bolt engines. They use a 1-piece main girdle, not 7 individual caps and braces.

Hopefully it's strong enough with the Kiggly cap braces and without the cap towers. I'll be very interested to see the main bearing wear after the first season.

how much would you have had to shave off to make clearance for the rods? unless you were gunna have to go almost all the way threw i think i would have left them on just for peace of mind...just my

Everyone I saw that had R&R rods had to take atleast half and when your car is actually running things get hot and stretch and to me this is actually peace of mind not the other way around. I know no matter what the rods will clear and get plenty of oil. Aluminum rods put less stress on bearings already add to the fact I still have the girdle and acl race bearings I can tell you I will loose no sleep because of this part of the build

Hey Jay great pics in that album. Two big questions. First are you stroker or stock displacement cause I saw you had to make clearance at the bottom of the cylinders for the R&R rods which would mean I do too if your running a stroker? Second when did you do the grinding before or after the machine work to the block was done? I was torn on this because in one hand I want to have it cleaned after I grind the walls and on the other I want to see how big the cylinder bore will be before I grind.

Sean, my machine shop had to do a bunch of machine work to clear the R&R rods and 92mm billet stroker crank. The main caps were machine along with the bottom of the cylinder walls and side walls on the block. The oil squirters were also modified. I'm not sure if you have to do anything to the oil squirters as you're using stock 88mm crank.

My machine shop told me the some of the grinding were very close to the oil veins. Only take out as much as you need to clear the rods but no more.

Some pics of my block...

Yeah from what I see though everyone that had to bust out the grinder was either running a long rod setup or a stroker setup no stock 2.0 guys claming clearance issues. Not a big deal either way I am more than capable of making room. I know Jay hasn't responded yet but I talked to him in the phone for a good 30 min (great guy def hit him up if your looking for anything or want LEGIT advice) and he's running a 2.0l long rod setup.

I loved the way these looked when casey had them on so I picked up another set :)

Sean,
That's correct. The long rod 2.0L I did took a lot of grinding to the the R&Rs to fit, 2009 Engine Build. Also, your modified rod bearings shipped yesterday :)

Like I keep telling them your the man Jay. For only $20 Jay setup my ACL race bearings to fit my R&R rods with the pin in them. Got them shipped back to me same day too. Can't beat it.

Now all I need to take everything to the machine shop is my clutch setup because they have to bolt the flywheel on the crank and balance it all together. Hopefully it's not to bad because usually when you have a knife edged crank if it wasn't balanced already it can be a pain. The aluminum rods will help though because it's a lot easier to have to take away weight then add it with a crank like this.

I havent seen those light covers in so long, reminds me of a guy i used to go to college with he had them on his awd.

Nice light covers. I think I have a set lying around somewhere on a parts shelf. My hood doesn't really hold them well, so I don't run mine.

I didn't read too too close, but I did not see it mentioned.

Sean should be ok cutting the braces off. Especially with the kiggly girdle.

2.4L hyundai and mitsubishi motors all haev individual main caps.

Just though I would share.

Got my bearings back from jay today......VERY NICE!!!

Early X-mas gift to myself :) It's not going on today though because I have to drive it up to JMF to have it sent out and anodized black for E85 use. Then this bad boy will find it's home underneath the car.
