Products the DSM crowd would like to see made

so which one is it crap or nice?

It's for a 2G anyway. So it would be nice to see a good heat shield for a 1G if anybody wants to try that. Although the box would have to vary from intake style to intake style so I don't know how well a "universal" one would work. I am probably going to be creative and make a heat shield myself out of some sheet metal aluminum. It will be really cheap and if I mess up I can just scrap it and start over :thumb:

Just a thought LOL

1.an aluminum rear bumper support, like for the 1g's
2.crossmember underbraces, like what the evos and subies have. cusco come one, wheres the DSM loveROFL

3" Intake pipes for 1g non-recirculated GM MAF setups that are priced somewhat reasonably. All due respect to DeJon and others but $100? Seriously?
What other market has polished aluminum intake pipes for less than $100? Are you saying it's expensive relative to what's available in other markets or that you just want it cheaper than that because you don't want to spend that much? From what I've seen in other markets, that's a pretty good deal for a polished aluminum intake pipe.

The DSM market is too small to warrant mass production of a lot of parts. That means most parts have to be made by hand, which means we'll have to pay for the labor on each part - people can't work for free. There's little chance of parts being made for dirt cheap these days.

It's one thing to request a part be made available at a reasonable cost. It's another to expect everything be made available for pennies. Please be realistic. We've used threads like this to make parts available for the DSM market that were not otherwise available, and the vendors have tried to price those products reasonably. But if all people continue to demand the world and only want to pay $1 for it, the vendors are likely not going to look into those requests. Again, try and be realistic with your requests and don't sound like a cheap bastard - we'll have a better chance at getting more parts made that way.

This is a true statement we all need to look at this issue or are cars will become less by the day.
Maybe we can come up with a list of the vital factory parts that are discontinued and see how we can make them available again. It might not work, but I'm sure we can make an impact on some of them at least.

well i'm not a vendor, but i've been talking to a guy i work with(at a machine shop) about looking into making solid aluminum motor mounts, not just inserts. i've started looking into material cost, and i am wondering if all mounts need to be replaced for good results, or only two? how many people do you all think would want these? and how much do you think everyone would be willing to pay? i'd like to make a new thread for this, but i'm not allowed due to my rookie status on here. i also tried posting in the thread about the solid aluminum inserts but i couldn't there either.

- Dry sump: not sure what stage pump we'd need, 3 or 5 stage?
- DSMLink to connect to Stack, Pi, and Motec... small market though.
- Bolt on tow hooks.
- Cast intake manifold, AMS or Magnus???

Dry sump systems would be awesome, but would also have to be fairly complex and quite expensive I think. Custom oil pan, oil accumulator tank, pump mounting bracket, pump drive pulley size, serpentine belt length, block oil feed adapter, dummy/idler stock oil pump gear, would all be needed for it. I'd imagine a 3 stage would be enough as long as you used a large volume sized accumulator, but an extra couple scavenger stages would never hurt.

I think it'd be pretty sick if used along with a crankcase vacuum pump, low-tension rings, a chromoly crank, light flywheel and top notch valvetrain on a long-rod destroker engine. I'd venture to guess it'd be similar to riding a sportbike, only with 4WD:sneaky:.

I'm definitely +2 for that cast intake though.

Have you seen Magnus' new cast intake manifold for the Evo? Nice.

We should have a front engine roll stopper/ mount (solid aluminum) very soon. We are working close with a local college to develop more parts for the dsm community. Its a win win. The students get to help create real life parts in a state of the art machine shop and we will get great pricing to pass along to you guys! We also have a few other things coming this winter as well.

Someone on this board is already offering those.

That's the beauty of being a Supporting Vendor on this site - you get to do market research and post questions like that. Non-Supporting Vendors do not get to do that.

I'll answer your question anyway - DSMers will want to pay very little, probably less than it costs to produce the part. Check the prices for aluminum motor mounts for other cars and that's probably a good starting point. As for how many people would buy them, who knows. There seems to be a good amount of interest in the inserts so far.

where? the only things i've found close to this is welding plates to the sides of the mounts, and a guy who used to make aluminum inserts.

and to ludachris, sorry if i crossed any lines, i didn't mean to. i wouldn't try to sell anything through here without being a vendor.

and just a side note, all the parts like this i've seen are very pricey, i think i'd be able to manufacture something much cheaper. of course i'd have no overhead besides raw material cost. that is unless they sold like hotcakes, i only have so much free time.

i can't believe how many simple parts there are for our cars that aren't being offered, or are very over-priced. if i wasn't working and going to school full time i'd definitely try getting into the business. and actually day by day i get closer to just giving it a go.

Ive often had the same thought, and even looked into a few things.

The only major issue I had was most people (not just DSMers) aren't willing to buy a product without a insane amount of testing. Obviously, parts need to be tested, but the more time spent testing just adds to the price. This is what prices many things out of the market because there isn't enough demand to mass produce and get a better cost on making the product. Just imagine the hours people like magnus, jmf, ets and others put into their products before we get to buy them.

If you are up to the task, then please, go for it. We all benefit when new products are introduced or improved. Thats why this thread has so many posts. And thats also why im sure the vendors are watching!!!

I'd like to see some new bushings for carrier bearings for a 1g. Maybe something made out of poly with some new thick washers.
