Hey folks ,my car is a 99 Spyder 2.4 with the black box ECU. Everything was normal with the fans until i changed to a 97 ECU with Ecm Link. When i start the car cold the fans kick in on HIGH after like 15 seconds and they never stop.. I let the car run another 2-3 minutes shut it off ,take out the key then put it on ON position they dont turn on, but when i start it again they immediately turn on . I never messed with the wiring on the fans they were perfectly fine the only intervention was the ECU swap

If the ECU was used the PO could have configured it to turn the fans on like that.
We tried to reset it completely nothing happens .. also i forgot to mension you can activate them and shut them off from the link . I tried different temperature sensors still the same result . Something is telling the fans to turn on after 15 seconds and never shut off

Please post a log just to make sure. This would be the simplest way for this to happen. I think every other cause would be far more involved. For example we don't usually see aftermarket fan controllers but it's a small possibility.
Shorts in the relay drivers shouldn't have any delay.

So a little update , i connected my original black box ECU started the car and the fans don't turn on like they do with the 97 ECU . Is there a difference in the fans the installation or maybe some relays ?

As mentioned, ECMLink has controls for the fans that may not be configured like the stock Black Box ECU. Post a log from ECMLink and we can help you locate the likely area of concern.

All you've done with this is confirm the issue lies within the ECU with ECMLink. As the other two have mentioned, post a log. If you are unsure of how to post a log, let us know.

I am 1000% sure we didn't forget the turn fans on checked and even when I changed the coolant offset to test, the fans kept turning on seconds after car was running and never shut off, so it is not related to the CTS or the settings within ECM. We also tried 2 different OEM CT sensors but no change, they both report the same temperature.

Just re reading your posts, are you sure it’s a 97 ECU with ECMLink? It’s not impossible that some one paid to have that ECU converted for DSMLink, but 97% of the time it’s cheaper and easier to use a 95 EPROM ECU that already has a chip socket on the board to run ECMLink.

If you are sure the ECMLink settings are correct then the only option is that the ECU is faulty.

Thank you! The log confirms the fan controls are off. I didn't see anything unusual in the configuration. Its puzzling for sure.

What is the chance that a circuit inside the ECU has shorted and thats why its turning the fan's earlier? But if that's the case how can i still turn them on and off manually

His ECU was bought directly from ECMlink, and it's a 1997 ECU (as labeled on the metal case) which has been converted to EPROM since it has the daughter board on top of the original circuitboard.

P.S I've been helping Hristo with this issue but I've also ran out of ideas as to why the fans keep turning on. The only clues that lead somewhere are the 2g ECU in EVO 8 article in ECMLink's website. The EVO 8 has the same setup for fan control so maybe it shares the same wiring with a '99 spyder since the spyder came with a blackbox ecu, that has the same processors and base board as an EVO 8+.

The mystery remains.
