My turbo set up on my car consists of the following.

2g manifold

E316g ebay special that will be replaced when i have more money
stainless j pipe

Tube an fin front mount

Long route intercooler piping which i made myself from a piping kit, where it comes up through the old stock location an runs to the throttle body

Turbo xs type h that i hate an will replace

Magnus smim

Now my question is why does my friends car with a 16 an stock side mount an turbo back exhaust have so much more torque to it i mean it feels awesome in all the lower gears. Now me an him have lined up (at the track of course), an i beat him by about 4 cars cause my car is pulling more in top end but the lag is greater then his an does not have the same torque or bad a$$ feeling.

Is this due to pressure drop because of the long route with the magnus i mean my friend tells me that the long route is only around a 100 rpm loss in spool now these numbers are just round about so if im off correct me. He told me his brother is running same set up but different blow off valve an no smim an it pulls hard.

Now before you guys say anything i have done a boost leak test and no clamps leak the only thing that does is that queer blow off valve that i just have not got around to replacing. When i pressure tested the set up I was only holding around 12 psi before it bled off at the bov. On a side note i have tried to put more washers in ive tried lubricating the bov ive tried taken stuff out it never seals right for long there just junk.

When i do have the money i plan on doing a complete turbo set up an replacing everything i just wanted thoughts on what is causing this if its really the blow off valve killing my torque that bad or if its a combo of the straight runners in my smim intake that is causing me to loose the velocity that the stock manifold produces. I see a ton of guys with smim on higher hp cars then mine an they seem to make alot of hard pulls in mid range rpm. These cars are not just top end cars i have seen these things throw my head into the seat in front wheel drives an thats torque. Anyone who wants to say go buy a v8 if you want torque just really does not have an answer to what im asking an has no clue what there doing an have nothing positive to contribute to the post.

My first question- why the knockoff 16G but a Magnus sheet-metal intake? I don't know of many guys using a sheet-metal intake with a 16G, let alone a knockoff 16G.

If you're thinking it's the fault of the intercooler and/or piping, try plumbing a boost gauge pre-intercooler and compare it to the pressure at the intake manifold with your current boost gauge.

What is the boost level you're trying to achieve?

^^^ Yep. Do a run and look at your boost gauge then move the gauge sorce to a source pre intercooler. Do not T from the boost controller.

Your torque is there, just at a higher rpm. That is why you significantly beat him. You have more lag, but move more air per rpm at a higher rpm. Give me a log of your car at WOT and a log of his car at WOT in 3rd gear, and I'll show you.

Alright i will try but im real strapped for cash an i have no way to log anything right now. Yeah i know. I bought a magnus intake because i found a good deal on it but i didnt have a turbo an i had low cash at the time my engine was finished. I didnt buy all my parts at the same time i try not to go cheap but i didnt want a 16g that was 500 id rather have a garret that can meet my hp goals then to buy turbo after turbo.

You have answered your own question. Am I correct in saying that you can only hold 12 psi during the boost leak test, or just that the CBV starts leaking at 12 psi? Either way that is not good for midrange torque production.

I can hold 45 psi with my BOV without a leak. I use the Dejon Powerhouse CBV stop leak kit. The Magnus SMIM I'm not sure of, but others have been able to make mega midrange torque running SMIM before on a 16g.
